The colors and nature of summer are now a pleasant memory...replaced by the rich reds and golden tones of autumn.
Although no sculptured marble should rise to their memory, nor engraved stone bear record of their deeds, yet will their remembrance be as lasting as the land they honored. ~Daniel Webster
They are dead; but they live in each Patriot's breast,
And their names are engraven on honor's bright crest.
~Henry Wadsworth Longfellow
Peace to each manly soul that sleepeth;
Rest to each faithful eye that weepeth...
~Thomas Moore
They hover as a cloud of witnesses above this Nation. ~Henry Ward Beecher

On a cold November morning, an old man sits a while
Looking though old photographs, he cannot help but smile
They’re all there, all the boys, with hair cut short and neat
Uniforms of khaki, strong black boots upon their feet.
They met as strangers but soon became like brothers to the end
Smiling at the camera, there could be no truer friends.
They all took the King’s shilling, went off to fight the hun,
Soon learnt the pain of loss once the fighting had begun.
So many never made it home, lost on foreign shores
Many more were injured and would be the same no more.
The old man’s eyes mist with tears as he remembers every face
Each of his fallen brothers and the killing which took place
He proudly dons his beret, his blazer and his tie
For today he will remember the ones who fell and died.
On his chest there is a poppy, a blaze of scarlet on the blue
He steps out into the cold, he has a duty he must do
Once at the cenotaph he stands amongst the ranks
Of those who marched to war and those who manned the tanks,
He bows his head in reverence, as the last post begins to play
And he wonders what will happen at the ending of his days
Will anyone remember? Will anybody care?
About the lads so far from home whose life was ended there?
I wish that I could tell him, that he should fear not
For this soldier and his brothers will never be forgot
We owe a debt of gratitude that we never can repay
And this country will remember them, on each and every Remembrance day.
This is where I took all my lovely lily shots from. These lily pad are about the size of a small child's pool. They are incredible and are very thick. A frogs lounging dream.
Families could afford to spend time together regardless of space and distance?
I don't know the name of this tunnel...but it was in Washington DC at the end of our long trip down to Maryland (we are from Hartford) with the kids from Venice, Italy, & the in/laws from Chicago to meet up with my nice and nephew/law from Wilmington NC. Mega travel for all involved, unbelievable amounts of cash spent on gas and car rentals, but luckily we got awesome military discounts on lodging...$89 per night on 2bdr condo units w/ full kitchen, living room, 2 baths, 4 beds, furnished with supplies and even a dishwasher and Kureg machine.
From the empty photo, its too bad more folks can't afford these fuel prices.
Its a shame more and more, even middle class folks can't afford the fuel, or the smaller paycheck that would result in taking that time off required...
He was my first cat, he arrived when we were both kittens. He left me 32 years ago today and I still think of him often.

I bought my last pair of work shoes here at Alamo from a helpful salesman.
I'm not going to lie...the awesome sign outside the store probably had something to do with this place being one of the first spots to come to mind for shoe shopping.
That, and I support independent businesses.

Name given by a friend that took the photo. The three of us traveled together most of the time..
Letha had problems with her hands for a few years so we went to a side car. Back in the 50"s and 60's I had several sidecars and enjoyed them so this was real fun.. This sidecar had all the nice stuff.. Intercom, plugin for electric blanket, electric lift to keep it level with any load, full opening, so all I had to do was lower it down and Letha could walk in and set down.. It also had a top and and snap on windows but I only remember letha using them once..
REMEMBERANCE DAY 2007
At the 11th hour,
of the 11th day,
of the 11th month...
We will remember them
Lest We Forget
In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.
We are the dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie,
In Flanders fields.
Take up your quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.
Lieutenant Colonel John McCrae, MD
While out for a drive in the country with my gal, we rounded the corner to view this wonderful old house from between the bushes and trees, we had to stop. The owner was out raking up leaves, he gave us permission to photograph his property of many acres, which included a two acre pond and vineyards surrounding this old home.
During our conversation Bill explained that his wife had passed on, together they had made the beautiful place their home for 55 years. Bill also shared with us to look out for his love's chair overlooking her favorite spot of the pond. Rememberance.
I want to go back one day to photograph their very special place.
I wish I had room to show you more.
