My first try with photoshop. Trying to make the colours brighter and add/remove some colors to bring the fly more to the attention.
Hope you guys like it. If not I would like to hear it as well.

The .45 ACP version of a series of bolt action survival/sporting carbines.
Over 3 years after it was first built, I felt like doing a revamp of it, taking in some of the feedback from this group. Mostly focused on cleaning up some shapework and making the stock more interesting.

I absolutely love woodblocks from Japan so for my project I am using this triptych series by Kunisada called May; Current affairs of the Prince Genji in 12 months.
For my project I wanted to use most of the elements from the original but making the ladies look and feel modern. I will also be making this digitally but mostly letting the original influence the style.
I also have a couple of influences that I think would make this look "modern" like a different wallpaper and other details.
Suggestions are welcomed!

I selected to do a remake on Gustave Dore “Death of Samson”. According to the biblical account, Samson was given superior strength by God. The strength allowed Samson to combat his enemies and perform heroic feats - such as killing a lion, slaying an entire army with only the jawbone of an ass, and destroying a pagan temple. Samson was to save the Israelites from the Philistines. One day he fell in love with Delilah. The Philistines convince her to find the secret of his strength so they can capture Samson. After his capture the Philistines blinded Samson and tied him to the pillars of their pagan temple. Samson eventually recovered his strength and pulled the pillars apart to destroy the Philistine empire.
I chose the New York Stock Exchange and the 99% demonstration to reflect Gustave Dore wood carving “Death of Samson”. The pediment of the building, as with a lot of the Greek style pediments, depicted a theme titled “Integrity Protecting the Works of Man”. An Athenian robed woman with Mercury wings is at the center of the pediment and represents “Integrity”. She has both of her arms stretched outward with clenched fists. The figures on her left represent mining and agriculture (depicting laborers) while the figures on her right represent industry and science (laborers and educators). With the 2006 collapse of the stock market sending the US into a deep recession and the 2011 demonstration “Occupy Wall Street” I found the conflict between establishment and society somewhat similar to Israelites and Philistines.
However, I found the demonstrators choose of clothing helps the satire. One young lady wears a Wesleyan University T-shirt from where the university is proud of their alumni’s that are CEO, Hollywood Film makers, Senate and successful elite. Another young lady wears a T-shirt showing the Beatles crossing Abbey road another symbol of extreme wealth and nobility. Both are demonstrating against the 1% but yet support the potential 1% in education and showbiz.
A couple hundred makers and teachers gathered at the ReMake Education Summit, held August 3 - 5, 2016, at Studio 180 in Santa Rosa, CA. I went there with my associate Sarah Brewer, who is helping me teach our maker art classes this fall. It was a great way to connect with other educators and learn from each other.
The conference started with a few short speeches by co-host Dan Blake, Doug Dougherty and others. We then made simple objects together, such as a ReMake T-shirt made with vinyl-printed designs heat-pressed onto the cloth.
The morning keynotes were inspiring, as presenters shared their experiences as maker educators. They taught at different levels, from pre-K to higher ed, yet they all observed that activities that are hands-on, project-based, student-driven and collaborative can help students find a sense of purpose -- and give them the confidence that they can change the world.
We spent the rest of the day joining a variety of breakout sessions ranging from crowdsourcing your makerspace, to learning how to program a Raspberry Pi, control animated robots or how to assess the impact of maker education on young learners.
I gave a talk about our Maker Art classes, which combine art, tech and storytelling for young learners. I showed videos and photos of our recent Wonderbox and City of the Future courses, and how they help students develop their creative, technical and social skills in a playful way.
Many thanks to the team at ReMake and 180 Studios for organizing this fine gathering. They did a great job connecting teachers and resources. It was great way to share best practices, brainstorm new ideas, and start new collaborations. Well worth the trip!
