Out of the two pictures that I have taken in relation to editing and using layers, I believe I did a decent job with using layers and making sure everything fits together, however I also believe that there are certain things that could be improved to make both pictures better. In the picture for module 9.1, I had used three pictures that I had utilized in other modules where a picture of a subject was utilized as the main background picture and components such as a can and a watch were used as accessories within the pictures. I thought my idea was unique, however I think I could have done a better job in the blending and other factors in relation to making these object appear more real within the picture. In the second picture, I decided to take a picture of a sidewalk path and layer it with a picture of trees and wood chips. I took half of the sidewalk path and half of the woodchip picture and combined both of them together into one photo. Though I feel like it was unique, I think it could be improved since it looks too real.
Regardless of the different improvements that could be made in these pictures, I think that they still constitutes to art or is a part of art because like we have learned at the start of the class in module 1, art can be anything a person perceives, but I also think these images constitute to art because they follow the criteria of art where there is color, lines, and the objects are in focus. I think these two pictures play with these criteria and believe that they contain it in different aspects. For example, in the photo for 9.2, I think lines are played with a lot since half of the picture is split clearly. In module 9.1, I think the factor of colors are played with not only with the shirt, but also with the bright silver watch and the darker can that lays on the step. I believe that this brings attention to these items and accessories when a viewer observes them.
While working with layers for the assignments, I think the hardest part about working with layers was finding how the images could be layered without making it appear too fake or artificial. I also found blending the images together hard since the lighting and the colors may have been too bright or dark compared to the original picture of the added component images. I solved these images by cropping certain parts of the image such as the shadow that was apparent on the can from the original image and the table background of the watch to make these objects appear to be more like accessories more than three separate pictures. My creative process for the first image was thinking about how I could use images that I had already taken and combine them. Then, after looking at the images which were mostly of inanimate objects, I thought of adding accessories to my subject to make the objects fit with one another. To layer these images together, I had utilized an app called PhotoLeap, which made it simple to crop what I needed to and keep what I wanted to and easily utilize layering. In the second picture, my creative process consisted of thinking of how I could make something look natural and not too edited and saw noticed two different settings that could fit together.
Engaging in this activity affected my perception of the world because it helped me realize that there are many things and parts in the world that could be put together to look natural and fit together.
