No MM group for me anymore, tired of their rejections, so this is my macro shot for this morning. Please don't comment using that group's name.
Honestly, I was going to use this shot and try that unmentionable group once again this morning, after I saw a wonderful shot from one of my Flickr friends (see comments). However, I "assumed" the theme was "Mustard" -- hence all the effort I put into this shot. Ha! Ha! Read the theme right before posting ... NOT MUSTARD! My poor brain ...
You see, I wasn't supposed to use that group again anyway! Thank You, Jesus, to You be the glory!
May God bless you all through the coming week. And may all your macro shots be tiny! It is Monday after all ...

I think that every illustrator has their dream jobs that they hope to get. One of mine was to get a cover of TV Guide. Back in the day TV Guide (a weekly American magazine with TV listings, articles and gossip) had some great covers. In the 70s and 80s some of the best illustrators did covers. In going through my work for archiving I came across a little series that I did especially for them to see. It was probably a little too early in my career. I did send them to their art director. I got a nice rejection letter back saying that they liked my work but it was too similar to an artist they were already using. I wish he told me which artist.
I often cook the children their supper. Sometimes they don't like me trying to broaden their taste buds... tonight's rejection was my rather tasty pork loin stir fry.
Here's my answer... try it or you can have Alphabetti Spaghetti. Every day. They hadn't heard of Alphabetti Spaghetti before.
I'm often asked how to do these selective colour pop images... here's my 'how to' tutorial youtu.be/YzuL_madwfw

I came across this scene at the end of the day, and I wondered what the backstory might be. Was a proposal rejected? Was there a family feud? Were flowers an unsatisfactory replacement for a more tangible gift? Is the the sign of unrequited love?

In this shot, taken through my office window, the male has just given the fledgling a seed and has turned away not in rejection but in preparation of moving down to the feeder perch to get another morsel.
This past winter was long and bitterly cold, and I was happy to see that Eastern bluebirds found sustenance at my feeder, eating Wild Birds Unlimited's Southeastern No Mess seed. Once insects returned with warmer weather, I fully expected the bluebirds to depart, but no, they kept coming back to supplement their natural diet. And yesterday I looked out my office window, and there was this bluebird fledgling being fed by the male. Having them feed on seeds is so much easier for me than feeding them meal worms.

Now here's a person I haven't seen in a long, long time.
So, I have this book that I keep up in the attic. It's like my bible, full of all the sacred stuff that I haven't gotten around to - or didn't know how to deal with. It's been sitting up there waiting for the past ten years. It's got pages and pages of old negative sleeves; the first roll of b&w I shot, the first model shoot, stupid college stuff, my first forays into urban exploration/documentation, my early street portraits - the documentation of me running away for a summer out west, and then doing it again and again.
A lot of stuff that I buried. Things that I would flip through maybe once every few years - say to myself fuck - and put the book back in the drawer. Stuff I just didn't know how to deal with.
I once had the aspiration to publish things. Right next to the "bible" I keep a security box full of old letters and mementos - crushed pennies from the Alamo, the gloves I used to climb Half Dome, stuff like that - and also a stack of fifty opened envelopes, torn open at the seems one by one, in the order they arrived. These are the rejection letters from all of the publishers I had sent my prospectus out to.
Fifty, go fuck yourself letters.
After that I put the camera down for about five years. I didn't take a single photo, minus the occasional family snap-shot. This old Canon EOS sat in a bag on the top shelf of my closet dormant. It wasn't until a few years ago that I picked up a small digital camera again - to teach some Army brats how to take a picture. Then I joined this site to share our wedding photos with friends and family. And then "stalked" Konig - ran into Florian in the wine store and told him that his wife must be the "Queen of Flickr." Went shooting with Konig who told me "you really need to get a bigger camera" - and I was like listen up bitch I been doing this a long time (well I had been out of the game for a while) - and the fire was once again lit.
Anyway, I took the bible down and started flipping through the pages. And you know what, life is too damn short - so i am going to work with some of these old ghosts a bit. Maybe open up some of those old journals and put some of the images to the words, reawaken some old stories and memories forgotten and who knows maybe heal a bit in the process too.
That is what the image reminds me of - why it's been buried so long. That person in the mirror was me trying to come to terms with who i was, what i was, where I was. Sure I look like a complete tool. But you know what, I was like 17 years old and we're all tools at that age.
That camera gave me life.
The affective deficiency syndrome determines that emotional void that many adults feel as if they lack something or with a deep sense of loneliness, which will lead to the development of hostility, rejection, dependency, jealousy, dissatisfaction.
Unaware of the adventures that their friend is having, and thoroughly exasperated by their total lack of success in securing help, Violet and Jaune decide to regroup and discuss their next move.
They walk along the surface of Moon 44, recounting each rejection, dismissal, and brush-off that they suffered at the hands of so many spacemen.
Excuse me...
Violet and Jaune are startled out of their reverie of shared misery by a friendly voice.
Sorry, I didn't mean to interrupt, but I couldn't help overhearing that you are having trouble securing assistance to find...your missing ...friend, is it?
Thats right. answered Violet,
Are you saying that you can help us?
Violet and Jaune allow themselves the glimmer of hope that this stranger may be able to help finally find Pinky. But the man shakes his head.
No...I'm just a simple spaceman, I'm afraid. I need to get these greebles loaded onto my FRN18 rover and transported to base...
Their hopes are dashed just as quickly as they were raised.
...but I do know who can help.
You do?!
Certainly! You need to enlist the services of the Federation Search and Rescue Team.
Jaune and Violet exchange puzzled looks.
I've never heard of them.
Well, they are a new division, only recently formed. And, I might add, you are in luck, because I passed a squadron of them engaged in training exercises not far from here only a little while ago. If you hurry along, you may catch them! You'll know them by their bright orange uniforms, you can't miss 'em.
Charged with the hope of this news, Violet and Jaune thank the spaceman and trot quickly in the direction he indicated.
We will find you, Pinky! Violet thinks with renewed determination.
Girl and her dog.
REALLY TIRED TODAY. Hubby learned awesome news - he is participating in phase two of a Game Designer position and he is stoked! He figured he would just get the rejection letter but apparently they gave him a chance to prove himself. :)
P.S. Getting color done tomorrow.
Homily: 15Sunday-OT071121
Subject: How are We Doing?
In preparing a homily, one must first read all of the readings that are going to be proclaimed on that day. The Gospel carries the central theme and the other readings support the theme. Today’s theme focuses on the call that each one of us hear, ponder and respond to…that God has uniquely given to you.
Let us begin with our Gospel reading where Jesus chose among his disciples (the Apostles) …because they are the living witnesses of Jesus-they where formed in HIS presence. Our Gospel reading, is very specific, in what Jesus is calling them to do. They are to go out in pairs, taking no money, the cloths on their backs and a walking stick. Into the community they go, preaching repentance, healing the sick…each disciple experiencing success and rejection. Interestingly, later in Mark 6, the twelve return and report to Jesus what they had accomplished. Jesus invites them to a quiet place…to reflect and rest with him.
Today, we are also called HIS disciples and the Church is our school of formation and teaches us how Jesus walks with us-supports us in how we live out our call. In our ordinary existence, each one of us have experienced Gods call. Sometimes the call we hear can be heard in the quiet times of our lives. At other times, it may come like a lighting strike. Either way, we respond, and we are sent out to accomplish the task at hand. We are doing God’s will, and in big or small, decisions we are building the Kingdom of God on earth.
From our second reading in Ephesians it says:
In him we were also chosen,
destined in accord with the purpose of the One
who accomplishes all things according to the intention of his will,
In all wisdom and insight, he has made known to us
the mystery of his will in accord with his favor
that he set forth in him as a plan for the fullness of times,
to sum up all things in Christ, in heaven and on earth.
When we look into the mystery of life, we know our future is going to reveal surprises, good and bad, joyous and sorrowful, and it is in this landscape that we live out our calls. No call is the same, each person uniquely responds to the events that will emerge in each minute, hour and day.
Today’s takeaway question is: How are you doing with your unique call from God?
Recently, a parish member brought me a pile of books to read-yes a bit overwhelming when I have a much larger stack of books waiting to be read. So I sift through the books and find 3…the same 3 he has asked me to return. I picked up the first one, read a few interesting chapters and skimmed the rest of it. However, the second book I opened…stopped me in my tracks! This particular book speaks to the heart of my experience of being a disciple of Christ.
Here is one relatable quote from the book “the Human Adventure” by Carmelite Monk, William McNamara that should help you reflect on how well we are doing:
“We must come in or go out. All the way in-where the fire is and the sacrificial lovers are all aglow with the Spirit.”
William then quotes Dom Marmion, a renowned Benedictine abbot and spiritual writer. “He said the difference between the Saints and the rest of us is that they plunge boldly and daringly into the fire of God’s love and come out burned but incandescently and utterly transfigured. We put our little finger in, get slightly burned, and spend the rest of our days circling the fire…far enough away never to be burned again but close enough to be warmed by it.”
Jesus for us, is literally present to us in the Eucharist-he waiting for us to return and I suspect he is waiting for us to report. Each week, we return like the 12 disciples, we may be tired, but we are asked to report on how we are doing as His disciples. We will not answer this question with words but what feelings that resides deep in our hearts and conscience. We then follow our Jesus to a quiet place to rest. May we find rest here, as we offer up to God our hurts, joys, successes and failures…our very hearts to God.

“I choose to love you in silence…
For in silence I find no rejection,
I choose to love you in loneliness…
For in loneliness no one owns you but me,
I choose to adore you from a distance…
For distance will shield me from pain,
I choose to kiss you in the wind…
For the wind is gentler than my lips,
I choose to hold you in my dreams…
For in my dreams, you have no end.”

Impossible (sometimes) to be perfect or successful in something all the time. Sometimes you just have to admit to yourself & the world you’re a loser in something & move on. And then when the anxiety & pressure of the embarrassment & pain is over who knows what might happen again. ♥️
It's really been a minute, flickr. Hello again, it me.
This work is from a new series of mine in which I'm exploring how the human body can both mimic and contrast the surrounding physical landscape, as a metaphor how we are all influenced in some way by our surrounding physical and social environment but have the power to camouflage or differentiate ourselves in new worlds. I'm simultaneously working to deconstruct the binary between portraiture and landscape.

"Hold me close" she whispered into his leg-bearing tympanum.
"I can't not" he answered her softly.
"Do you love me?" She asked, her labrum trembling at the thought of rejection.
"How can you even ask me that, did I not stridulate you a sonnet to express my love? Was it not the artistry of the composition, the care of my song which first drew you to me in the first place?"
"Yes, but..." and she hesitated a moment. "There were others..."
"My dear, it was a song meant for you and no other. Can we not just enjoy the sunset and each other's company?"
She nodded and gazed into the distance, feeling some small comfort, though still wary. She couldn't help but feel like he wasn't telling her something. Later that night she would dig through the garbage to find a discarded flyer; "Lampyrid investigative services: shining a light on the darkest mysteries". She had to know...

Yellow-throated males are “sneakers”. Their coloration is similar to that of sexually mature females, and they typically mimic female “rejection” displays when they encounter dominant orange- or blue-throated males.
