The rights to be registered at birth, to have a name and to acquire a nationality are protected by Articles 7 and 8 of the Convention on the Rights of the Child. Yet according to UNICEF, one third of all children under five in the world (nearly 230 million) have not had their births officially recorded.
These children are limited in their ability to access their basic rights including education, health care, social security and freedom of movement. Their parents are also left in a vulnerable situation as they have no documentary proof that they are actually the parents of their children.

Continuing my Southern Arizona Adventure 2024 with a visit to Bisbee Arizona. This is stage 6 of 9.
I had a good parking space and a little time, so I decided to tour the Bisbee Mining & Historical Museum. It is a very professionally curated Museum and connected with the Smithsonian Museum.
The Museum also includes historical items of Phelps Dodge Corporation, including the original boardroom which was in this building. This appears to be a personal safe of James Stuart Douglas. This is a cash register from the National Cash Register Co., Dayton, Ohio, U.S.A.

During the first decade of the 20th century, Douglas, from his position of manager of Phelps Dodge's Moctezuma Copper Company mine and smelter in Sonora, oversaw the establishment of the smelter town of Douglas, Arizona (named for his father, Dr. James Douglas). He also oversaw the construction of a railroad from Douglas to the mines, and organized the Bank of Bisbee and the Bank of Douglas. While in Mexico, Douglas showed his practical bent in earning his nickname of “Rawhide Jimmy” when he ordered the use of rawhide to protect the rollers of an incline from damage by cables. With the onset of World War I, Douglas volunteered his services as a "dollar-a-year" man in supervising the Red Cross stores in France for the entire Western Front. For this, he was decorated by the French government as a Chevalier of the Legion of Honor. In 1922, Douglas took over the reorganization of the United Verde Extension mine in Jerome, and after four years struck the bonanza that made the UVX famous. Douglas guided the UVX through labor unrest, the Great Depression, and unstable copper prices to a 20-year production record of $130 million, paying stockholders more than $50 million in dividends.

This museum, one of the Smithsonian Institution's only rural branches, documents the history of Bisbee's mining days as well as the town's contribution to the country's industrialization. Located in the town's main plaza, Bisbee Mining & Historical Museum is a must-visit for anyone interested in mining and minerals. It features a remarkable mineral display as well as photographic exhibits, and you can also peruse riveting sections that illuminate the nuances of daily life in the copper mines.

Bisbee is a city[5] in and the county seat of Cochise County[6] in southeastern Arizona, United States. It is 92 miles (148 km) southeast of Tucson and 11 miles (18 km) north of the Mexican border.
Bisbee was founded as a copper, gold, and silver mining town in 1880, and named in honor of Judge DeWitt Bisbee, one of the financial backers of the adjacent Copper Queen Mine.
Today, the historic city of Bisbee is known as "Old Bisbee" and is home to a thriving downtown cultural scene. This area is noted for its architecture, including Victorian-style houses and an elegant Art Deco county courthouse. Because its plan was laid out to a pedestrian scale before the automobile, Old Bisbee is compact and walkable. The town's hilly terrain is exemplified by the old four-story high school; each floor has a ground-level entrance.
Natural vegetation around Bisbee has a semi-desert appearance with shrubby acacia, oak and the like, along with cacti, grass, ocotillo and yucca. The town itself is much more luxuriant with large trees such as native cypress, sycamore and cottonwood plus the introduced ailanthus and Old World cypresses, cedars and pines. Palms are capable of growing tall, but are not reliably hardy. At least one mature blue spruce may be seen.

Canadian Forces Station Debert (also CFS Debert) was a Canadian Forces station located in Debert, Nova Scotia. It was most recently used during the Cold War as a communications facility and was home to a "Regional Emergency Government Headquarters" (REGH) complex, more commonly known by their nickname "Diefenbunker." Originally this facility was developed with an airfield and army training centre, however these facilities were decommissioned in the 1970s.

The TELFORDVILLE Post Office was established - 1 September 1904 and closed - 31 March 1969.
Telfordville is a hamlet in central Alberta, Canada within Leduc County. It is located just off Highway 622, approximately 41 kilometres (25 mi) west of Leduc. It is named for Robert Telford, former Leduc mayor and member of the Legislative Assembly of Alberta.
RCAF Station Debert - In the fall of 1938 the Royal Air Force (RAF) purchased land for constructing an aerodrome on the north shore of Cobequid Bay near the farming community of Debert.
Construction of the aerodrome, which would be named 31 Operational Training Unit (O.T.U.), began in the fall of 1940 and was completed in April 1941, coinciding with the construction of the army's adjoining Camp Debert. The airfield itself consisted of three 5000 ft runways arranged in an overlapping triangle. 31 O.T.U was one of several similar facilities constructed in the Maritime provinces in support of the British Commonwealth Air Training Plan and operational coastal patrol requirements.
No. 31 OTU was later taken over by the Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF) in 1944 and re-designated No. 7 O.T.U.. RCAF Station Debert closed on 20 June 1945 but was still owned and maintained by the RCAF. Following the closure, the aerodrome at Debert underwent some downsizing but continued to support active flight operations as a training, refueling, and maintenance base until 1954 even though no operational squadrons were stationed there.

Route 65A was part of a network of town services operated by Eastern National in Colchester. On August 6th 1994, 1899 (DAR 121T) was heading towards the Sainsbury's Superstore at Tollgate.
Registered JSK 151, this classic 1960 Bentley S2 Saloon was spotted outside the modern office backdrop at Kirkstall Forge in Leeds. Powered by the 6.2-litre Rolls-Royce V8, these S2 saloons remain absolute icons of post-war British luxury motoring.
These don't really look like the original register number signs here, but the decor of the neon cafe in the background is definitely original!

Built in 1886, the Neff House is a well-executed version of the Queen Anne / Eastlake style. The primary building material is brick, and there is a profusion of ornately decorated gables, roof forms, and window types. Although not substantiated, there are strong indications that the house was not designed by an architect, but by a builder using an architect’s pattern book. Frederick W. Neef was an early Denver businessman and owner of the Neef Brothers Brewery, a successful enterprise in early Denver.
The abandoned farm supply store in Worden, Kansas has a bit of whimsy in the corner as an artificial rose decorates an old cash register. There is a little poetry everywhere in this world....

This plywood cut scale painting of Jack Register was installed outside Moxies Cafe window by Colin Hoare. This location was significant to the late Jack Register, as it was the window that Jack looked out of each day during his regular breakfast ritual.

Fort Pulaski, under construction from 1829 to1847, was one of a chain of brick coastal fortifications in the eastern U.S. On Cockspur Island in the mouth of the Savannah River, it guarded the city of Savannah from water-borne invasion. Associated with it are various ancillary structures and sites that predate, contemporize with, or postdate the main building.
Fort Pulaski is the best preserved and most original of a system of eastern coastal forts designed by the French military engineer Simon Bernard while in the employ of the United States Army Corps of Engineers. Its massive brick walls, backed by heavy piers, and casemated rooms reflected the continuing search for security against increasingly large caliber smoothbore cannon of the period. (1)
The parade ground at Fort Pulaski National Monument in Savannah, Georgia, was the central open space inside the fort, where soldiers would assemble and train. During the Civil War, Confederate defenders used the parade ground to add defensive measures to the fort.
The parade ground was a critical part of the fort's defenses during the American Civil War, though in an unconventional way. In 1862, Union forces used newly developed rifled cannons during their siege of Fort Pulaski. Since these weapons had a longer range and were more powerful than earlier smoothbore cannons, the fort's masonry walls were proven vulnerable.
In an effort to counter the new artillery, Confederate soldiers dug ditches in the parade ground to catch incoming cannon shot. They also constructed a "blindage"—a heavy timber shelter—around the interior of the fort to protect against exploding shells and flying fragments.
The Union bombardment ultimately breached the fort's walls near a powder magazine. The threat of an explosion on the parade ground, where the magazine was located, forced the Confederate commander to surrender. This demonstrated that masonry forts could no longer withstand modern artillery fire. (Google AI)

"Love, myths and other stories" is the exhibition celebrating the bimillennian of Ovidio (Rome, Scuderie del Quirinale) and dedicated to the life, work and legacy of Ovid.
Words and verses: this is what remains of Ovid. Even his face is known to us only through evocations in Mediaeval manuscripts and Renaissance books that provide us with imaginary likenesses: the poet appears on the frontispieces either standing or seated at his desk, represented according to the canons of a man of letters of the period, often wearing a laurel wreath.
More is known about Ovid's personality which can be construed from his vast literary output, and has come down to us in manuscripts, giving him the immortality that he himself prophesied at the end of Metamorphoses. The poet tackled all the main styles in literature, grappling with and mastering very different genres, modernizing both the content and the form.
The romantic elegy features in his poetry from the early years: in the “Amores” the poet writes of earthly love for young girls, matrons, slaves and freedwomen; in the “Heroides” he explores the feelings of the mythic heroines betrayed and abandoned by deceitful or simply inattentive lovers; he adopts yet another register for “Ars amatoria”, where passion and desire become the subject of an educational guide. He then went on to tackle civic and epic poetry, creating the poem that would make him famous for generations, the “Metamorphoses”. Ovid occupies a special place among the great poets of the Latin world for the size and variety of his literary production and his role in handing down the great tradition of classical mythology. Thanks to him the enthralling tales of the gods, heroes, youths and nymphs have been imprinted in our collective memory.
Through his poetry, the word that overcomes the oblivion of time, Ovid achieved the immortality he so desired.

Ovid was an acute observer of contemporary Rome. He wrote of made—up women, ardent lovers, assignations and the sybaritic pleasures of banquets and theatrical performance. He frequented the intellectual circles and the most exclusive salons in the city where his instructive playful approach was particularly appreciated, although it made him unpopular with the emperor, who was engaged in a campaign of moral reform. For a crime, the precise nature of which remains unknown, Augustus exiled the sophisticated interpreter of Greek and Roman myth to Tomis, present-day Costanta in Romania. His later years were marked by the pain of exile and the vain hope that his sentence would be reduced.
