Photo Caption: Refractive error in children need to be corrected since the early age to prevent further complications such as amblyopia. Parents needs to be alert that refractive errors can, in some cases, be inherited. So if one or both parents have a refractive error, a child is more likely to suffer from one as well. Babies may be born with a refractive error and the condition can worsen over time.

But it can also caused by multifactorial (combination of genes and environment). Therefore for a parents with risk factors, I urgely encourage you to examine your child’s eye health and vision regularly.

Photo Caption: Ayesha is a young girl in Turkey, who was born at just 26 weeks. She was 700 grams and she spent her first 3 months in an intensive care unit. Due to Retinopathy of Prematurity (ROP), she lost vision in both eyes and surgery was not able to restore her sight. Ayesha is now brought to school by her family and she continues her education through their efforts. In the early days of school, she suffered from learning difficulties, due to her physical and mental impairments. Ayesha is using her right hand to read the braille book. She believes knowledge vision is more stronger than eye vision.
