The picture is the highlight of my 2022 World Sight Day. The lady having heard of the free eye test at St. Odilia Eye Clinic, brought her nephew from school. An improvised E illiterate letter was used to aid communication during eye test. He was happy when he could see the small letters with his lenses.

Saloni was suffering with high myopia, which was remained unidentified before our intervention under school eye screening. Saloni's father income does not allow to afford a pair of eyeglasses, so our free pair of eyeglass has proved to be light at the end of tunnel for Saloni's education.

Access to eyecare services in Cameroon is largely a luxury to many, due to out of pocket payment of for services in the few the eye clinics in that exist. A phenomenon that is limiting many from accessing care.
As a result, the Cameroon Baptist Convention (CBC) Health Services has adopted a proximity and door-to-door eyecare services to reach out to those who cannot access care, especially persons with disabilities and other vulnerable group.

As it was the first eye examination of the little boy, he was curious in every assessment and stared at the optometrist throughout the whole examination. We stepped out the clinic and provided onsite comprehensive eye examination at school for kids with special needs. We hope that the kids can be assessed in a familiar setting, with familiar accompanies and at the earliest time. We believe that a patient centered optometric centre can be set up at any place.

Photo Caption: Some cases of blindness can be prevented by taking the right steps and giving treatment at an appropriate time, but this is sometimes not possible due to challenges of poor access to eye care faced by some individuals.
Prisons are places where people are confined for a period determined by law. Prisoners have restricted access to eye health care. This leads to high prevalence of ocular diseases.Overcrowding, malnutrition, trauma, infectious diseases and inadequate medical care further aggravate health of inmates. Therefore the need for outreaches to such places cannot be overemphasized.
