I was at the local nature reserve, taking pictures of the ducks. I saw the reflection of the trees in the water. The surface of the water was like a millpond, but the breeze was moving the branches on the trees. I liked the abstract look this gave. I converted to black and white as there was little colour in the scene anyway and what there was, was distracting.
So finally we have some Autumn colour, although I am not sure how long the leaves will last with all the wind and rain we have been having! Taken on Lake Charles. Looks better bigger on black :o)
Light from the glowing walls of the Zion Narrows reflects off the waters of the North Fork of the Virgin River. Zion National Park is really an amazing place, with arguably some of the best day hikes in the world. From slot canyons such as this (and the Subway) to awesome vistas like Angel's Landing and the Zion Overlook trail, the park has everything! It would take many, many years to really see the whole park. I spent less than a week here, and had just enough time to do the more well-known and famous hikes.
This particular shot was taken in the early afternoon, on the way back to the trail head from the 'no permit turn-around' point of Big Spring. As you get closer to the trail head, the number of people hiking increases exponentially - it was essentially impossible to get any good people-free shots after this point (which is near the mouth of Orderville Canyon). Almost the entire hike is spent in the river, so make sure to be prepared for cold water. The water levels were lower here than is normal for late spring/early summer, and there were still several spots that were close to chest deep. Definitely a risk with all the camera gear, but a well-worth it risk.

Another Amtrak train passing by thus creating this pretty cool reflection in the window of my train.
Hope you all had a fun and safe new year celebration!
I'm going to try to upload my trip shots in rough sequence although the train shots will be a mix of coming and going.
