The weather finally cooperated (sort of) and I managed to get out and and shoot a bit. I drove up to Redwood Shores, to the lair of Larry and shot around Oracle HQ. Its an impressive campus, with an impressively large security force.
I'm fortunate to work across the street from the National Mall in Washington, DC. This evening I knocked off work a little early to take a few photos of the moon over the monuments. As you can see, I wasn't the only one with this idea. I knew the moon would be in a good position because I recently bought The Photographer's Ephemeris, an iPhone app that I highly recommend for folks interested in finding the best times and locations to photograph the moon or sunrises and sunsets.
I've started a photography blog. You can check it out at
We had a several hour layover in DC on our way to Ireland, so we headed into the Mall to have a look around.
A view from the Lincoln Memorial towards the Washington Monument and the Capitol Building.
Scottish Parliament mirrored in the reflecting pools. I do hope one day this architectural folly of a building finds it was a century ahead of its time, *somehow*. Equally I also hope one day this political folly of a year finally realises it's a century behind the times.

For those not familiar with the OKC Bombing Memorial, from their website: "The West Gate represents 9:03 a.m., the moment we were changed forever, and the hope that came from the horror in the moments and days following the bombing."
Washington DC
I'm currently just outside of Washington DC. I flew into Baltimore yesterday, and the weather was absolutely beautiful. I planned on doing all of my sight-seeing today...and of course it was miserably cold and snowy. I left Minnesota to get AWAY from winter! :(
The morning mist was lifting from the reflecting pool.
Note: Using a tripod in this area requires a permit, monopods are allowed.
Holy cow did we have fog on Saturday morning. There was a dense fog advisory all night so obviously that meant that I had to wake up super early and capture it all. It reminded me of driving in San Diego because at times while driving into the city it was difficult to even see the highway signs: bit.ly/2oz8EIe
Famed Brazilian architect Oscar Niemeyer's domed Museu National is located on Esplanada dos Ministerios, Brasilia. The dome has a 4 floor interior & a radius of 25 metres. The museum, with its reflecting pool, officially opened Dec 15th 2006, Niemeyer's 99th birthday. Its inaugral exhibition was a retrospective of the architect's own work. Today, Dec 15th 2010, is his 103rd birthday. He's still going strong, working on international design contracts. Happy Birthday, Mr Niemeyer!
"It is not the right angle that attracts me, nor the straight line, hard and inflexible, created by man. What attracts me is the free and sensual curve — the curve that I find in the mountains of my country, in the sinuous course of its rivers, in the body of the beloved woman." Oscar Niemeyer.
Hi from Brazil, dear flickr friends. I had intended to do my first post on the startling first impressions of this unique city but realizing that it is Niemeyer's 103rd birthday today I wanted to honour both his talent & his longevity as well as his dominant influence as architectural designer of Brasilia, Brazil's 50 year old inland federal capital. The only thing I'll add for now is that it is pure bliss to be in bare feet & wearing t-shirts in this glorious tropical environment *~* Ciao for now!

At 9:02 am on April 19, 1995, Timothy McVeigh blew up the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building in downtown Oklahoma City, OK. The explosion killed 168 people: 19 children and 149 adults.
The Memorial is built on the Murrah Building site and is part of the US National Park system.
Looking through the east Gate of Time. The reflecting pool was once 5th Street. The Field of Empty Chairs is to the left (south) on the site of the Murrah Building.
The west Gate of Time is at the end of the reflecting pool. It is stamped 9:03 am the first moment of recovery.
Below freezing temperatures turn the Lincoln Memorial's reflecting pool into a sheet of ice, on the National Mall in Washington DC.
