Scottish Parliament mirrored in the reflecting pools. I do hope one day this architectural folly of a building finds it was a century ahead of its time, *somehow*. Equally I also hope one day this political folly of a year finally realises it's a century behind the times.

For those not familiar with the OKC Bombing Memorial, from their website: "The West Gate represents 9:03 a.m., the moment we were changed forever, and the hope that came from the horror in the moments and days following the bombing."

Similar to one of my more recent shots, but with a little more symmetry and a little DC wildlife.

Washington DC

I'm currently just outside of Washington DC. I flew into Baltimore yesterday, and the weather was absolutely beautiful. I planned on doing all of my sight-seeing today...and of course it was miserably cold and snowy. I left Minnesota to get AWAY from winter! :(

Holy cow did we have fog on Saturday morning. There was a dense fog advisory all night so obviously that meant that I had to wake up super early and capture it all. It reminded me of driving in San Diego because at times while driving into the city it was difficult to even see the highway signs: bit.ly/2oz8EIe

Famed Brazilian architect Oscar Niemeyer's domed Museu National is located on Esplanada dos Ministerios, Brasilia. The dome has a 4 floor interior & a radius of 25 metres. The museum, with its reflecting pool, officially opened Dec 15th 2006, Niemeyer's 99th birthday. Its inaugral exhibition was a retrospective of the architect's own work. Today, Dec 15th 2010, is his 103rd birthday. He's still going strong, working on international design contracts. Happy Birthday, Mr Niemeyer!

"It is not the right angle that attracts me, nor the straight line, hard and inflexible, created by man. What attracts me is the free and sensual curve — the curve that I find in the mountains of my country, in the sinuous course of its rivers, in the body of the beloved woman." Oscar Niemeyer.

Hi from Brazil, dear flickr friends. I had intended to do my first post on the startling first impressions of this unique city but realizing that it is Niemeyer's 103rd birthday today I wanted to honour both his talent & his longevity as well as his dominant influence as architectural designer of Brasilia, Brazil's 50 year old inland federal capital. The only thing I'll add for now is that it is pure bliss to be in bare feet & wearing t-shirts in this glorious tropical environment *~* Ciao for now!

The weather finally cooperated (sort of) and I managed to get out and and shoot a bit. I drove up to Redwood Shores, to the lair of Larry and shot around Oracle HQ. Its an impressive campus, with an impressively large security force.

At 9:02 am on April 19, 1995, Timothy McVeigh blew up the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building in downtown Oklahoma City, OK. The explosion killed 168 people: 19 children and 149 adults.

The Memorial is built on the Murrah Building site and is part of the US National Park system.

Looking through the east Gate of Time. The reflecting pool was once 5th Street. The Field of Empty Chairs is to the left (south) on the site of the Murrah Building.

The west Gate of Time is at the end of the reflecting pool. It is stamped 9:03 am the first moment of recovery.

Our day in port at Cannes began with sightseeing in the ''Le Suquet'' district, after which we headed to Cannes' downtown area -- the Centre-Ville - Croisette district.

While strolling through Les Allées de la Liberté (Liberty Lanes) -- a paved, tree-covered plaza in Downtown Croisette -- we encountered this monument and reflecting pool erected in honor of Lord Henry Brougham, whose love for Cannes made it a popular destination among the British aristocracy in the mid-1800s. He ''accidentally'' discovered the seaside resort in 1834 when he was turned away at the Italian border due to a cholera epidemic.

A few details on the Statue of Lord Brougham as translated from a Cannes tourism website and the monument's inscriptions:

Statue of Lord Brougham

The original statue of Lord Brougham was created by sculptor Paul Lienard and erected in 1878. It was subsequently broken and replaced in 1953 with an identical copy made by A.L. Trinero, which was installed in the Allées de la Liberté. A beautiful tribute to the English politician who made Cannes a world-renowned destination.

inscription on base of statue:

Born in Edinburgh on 19 September 1778

Died in Cannes on 7 May 1868

inscription on plaque at end of reflecting pool:

Fireworks explode over the Washington Monument.

The Washington Monument, reflected in the waters of the Reflecting Pool. I didn't have a tripod with me, so the camera was actually sitting on the concrete ledge of the pool, a few inches above the water. Some ducks would occasionally float by and get in the shot.

Fortunately, Norway is full of crazy, hairpin filled, amazing roads. If you've been following this little photo tour through Fjordnorway, you've seen a couple already.

Fortunately, because we didn't really see this most famous one at all. The shot above is _before_ the fog really rolled in. This is the before shot (!)

Scattered around various tourist roads are these really amazing overlooks and rest areas. This one offers views the famous, 11 hairpin bends, 10% grade road, along with a waterfall and gorgeous valley below.

I know this, because there are pictures of it everywhere on the internet. We only saw it about 10 m at a time.

Lovely architecture though and hey, not everyone gets this mysterious fog photo.

The sun sets just to the right of the Lincoln Memorial, forming a starburst, just a few days before the Autumnal Equinox.
