University Avenue fountains and reflecting pool- -30 second exposure. The median, just north of Queen Street, also contains the 1910 South African War Memorial, designed by Walter Seymour Allward (Canadian National Vimy Memorial), to commemorate Canada’s Boer War participation.
A misting pool for kids under construction.
The workers tested it for a few minutes today
and it looked great.

Happy Fence Friday
From a selfish standpoint, after capturing monuments from various countries around the world, I had wanted to grab the monuments in our backyard! Our usual trip for the Thanksgiving holiday had changed this year and it opened a window. After visiting our nation's capital, the trip became more than just late night and early morning photo excursions, we have so much to be proud of and thankful for here - yet, more work to do.
Our last morning was a bit calmer in terms of the wind, with a sunrise horizon that proved to be a spectacular pastel backdrop to Washington's Monument. Giving some help, the lights for the monument were still on for this shot, but quickly turned off after.
Another Modigliani-esque woman 'reflect's in a watery 'pool', reflects ON the pool, reflects IN the pool of her own thoughts, inside, and reflects on the manifesting outer world as well. Her right eye is indistinct and doesn't seem to see the outer world, it is turned inward. Her left, the side of analysis and the linear, looks outward into the world. True seeing, it's been said, is a balance of both.
Lightning flashes over the reflecting pool on the National Mall in Washington DC on Monday evening, April 20, 2015
The Washington Monument reflected in the reflecting pool as seen from the Lincoln Memorial. The sky shows up as that color with the long exposure, because of the low lying clouds and the light pollution.
Strobist: Vivitar 285HV fired at 1/16th power from camera left toward the water line. Everything floating in the (nasty) reflecting pool, as well as anything floating in the air reflected back into the camera. I really liked the effect. The available light version is here.
I love the reflection of 7 WTC in the window. I have a few shots from the memorial but it I'm not sure about how much I like them but will be posting more of them later this week.

An "E-Tuk" tour of San Francisco
Our first stop was The Palace of Fine Arts (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Palace_of_Fine_Arts) in the marina district.
We were up early for a tour of San Francisco aboard a Dylan's Tours "E-Tuk" electric rickshaw. We hit all the "must sees" on our list, and our extremely knowledgeable tour guide, Aaron, made sure we were comfortable and well informed about the city!

This is the view across the reflecting pool from the Lincoln Memorial end.
The Nikon battery gods were with me during my brief visit to DC last month. This is a 6 exposure HDR, done with Photomatix. And it needed to be corrected for three WB settings afterward.

Thanks for any comments!
The Reflecting Pool and Lincoln Memorial are due West of the Washington Monument.
This picture was from my 8mm movie film (that has just been digitized) and had been filmed with an Elmo movie camera in 1983.

The National Capitol Columns
architectural style: Corinthian columns
The monument consists of twenty-two Corinthian columns, centered in the 20 acres known as the Ellipse Meadow. They were originally part of the U.S. Capitol building's east portico. The Columns now stand on a foundation of stones, constructed from the old east portico's steps. The reflecting pool is fed by small stream which runs down a channel in the steps.

My favorite courtyard in Carmel. I love the fountain, reflecting pool, glass gazebos and potted plants in this charming courtyard
The setting sun peeks from behind the pillars of the Lincoln Memorial just a few days before the Autumnal Equinox.
The Washington Monument is an obelisk near the west end of the National Mall in Washington, D.C., built to commemorate the first U.S. president, General George Washington. The monument, made of marble, granite, and sandstone, is both the world's tallest stone structure and the world's tallest obelisk, standing 555 feet 5⅛ inches (169.294 m). There are taller monumental columns, but they are neither all stone nor true obelisks. It is also the tallest structure in Washington D.C.(wiki)

The US Capitol, soon to be the scene of the 56th presidential inauguration, is reflected in the frozen surface of the Reflecting Pool at the base of Capitol Hill. A good reminder that there is much to reflect on concerning the historic inauguration of Barack Obama who will soon become the 44th U.S. president. I hope to walk as close as I can get on Tuesday morning into this area but the calm we see here will be replaced by huge crowds. Fortunately, the entire pool will be behind a barricade!
While out shooting the other night I was there during that moment when the sky goes royal blue just before it goes black. It was quite incredible to see in person.
I was also there when the lights on Temple Square turned on. That was cool. This picture was taken soon after.
Because of the reflection of the lights on the temple, there was quite a bit of photoshop that I did to get rid of an "orange glow" on each of the three spires and angel Moroni.
A rocket under DoD mission name ORS3 carries a record payload of satellites on departure from Wallops Island, Va. around 8:15 pm. Image consists of 32 photos stacked for the rocket trail.
This is the third nighttime launch I've photographed:
