Designed by Pritzker Prize-winning architect Fumihiko Maki. The rectilinear building is oriented forty-five degrees to solar north where all its sides are exposed to the sun. The form has been chiseled to create a concaved angular profile that is also a natural expression of the two level building. Clad in sandblasted white Brazilian granite, the surfaces of the building are set in motion in a constant interplay with the sun in light and deep shadows.
Beautiful morning reflection.

I'm having fun with my new lensbaby composer lens. I took this shot on the national mall near the World War II Memorial. You can see the Washington Monument and the Capitol in the background.
Pro tip for business trips to DC - take the first flight Sunday morning and hope for good weather.
As I post this, the National Mall is closed for the week (at least) in response to threats of violence from some of Trump's supporters.

At left are the Agency Office Buildings, at right is The Egg. In the background is the New York State Capitol Building. Empire State Plaza, Albany, New York.
A pair of glass cast feet poke out from under a hedge of coleus plants at the edge of a reflecting pool. The water in the pool has been dyed red. This is part of Ebony G. Paterson's show at the New York Botanical Garden, "...things come to thrive...in the shedding...in the molting..." According to the New York Times article, these cast-glass body parts might evoke slavery and colonial violence. I didn't even notice them until my friend pointed them out. And when I rested my camera on the pool ledge and took the first shot, I was pleased to see that the incoming light picked up the red and reflection in the water.

The Times reviewed the show in June, and when I first saw it in August, the outside garden was very different and somewhat overgrown. After the intense summer rain, it was unrecognizable by the time I saw it again with friends this week. But the foam vultures were still on guard, looking worn and tired. It looks to me like they were moved around during the show, It's a very odd, disjointed show with a very awkward title.
For Sliders Sunday.-- New York Botanical Garden, The Bronx, NYC -- October 13, 2023

I have always wanted to see this. Temple Square is amazing and well worth the visit!
For anyone that is interested...if you haven't seen this place before -- that reflection is real. There are 2 reflecting pools: The one that I have captured this reflection in and another oval one where the people near the center of the pic are standing.
The view from the One World Observatory in WTC 1, looking down at the Oculus, other World Trade Center buildings (WTC 3 and 4 to the right of the Oculus, WTC 2 to the left), and one of the two 9/11 Reflecting Pools.
Getting images through the thick windows of the One World Observatory is a bit of a challenge - heavy, paned glass, reflections, crowds, etc, but the $40 ticket is worth it. ($40 plus processing fees even if you buy it there).
WTC 1 is 104 stories, 1776 ft.
New York City.
PS. My camera GPS didn't work while I took these photos.
The Egg at left, Corning Tower at center left, Cultural Education Center (New York State Museum) at center, Agency Buildings at right. In the foreground is a reflecting pool. Empire State Plaza, Albany, New York.
Taken just before sunrise. I used two sets of 2 shot HDR. One for foreground and another for the building and focus stacked in photoshop. So 4 photos total to create this image. I'd love to get some red in the sky for this composition but it would take a pretty special sunset and might also need to be closer to winter solstice. But hey, blue sky works too.
This reflecting pool is a the beginning of the Aga Kahn Garden. It is wonderful! A shallow pool of black granite. Love the tall trees reflected.
These glass globes are currently floating in the reflecting pool at the Missouri Botanical Garden. There is an ehbibit of Chihuly's art there now.

In Denver last weekend; went to the Botanic Garden. Not the best time of the year for this, but fewer people to get in the way.
