The cost of disasters were summed up last night in dollars lost, people displaced, lives lost as one would expect at a meeting hosted by Columbia University with the theme "From Sendai to Rio -- Cultivating a Disaster-Resilient Society for Sustainable Development."
However, what also shone through in this major debate on the theme of disaster risk reduction in advance of the Rio+20 conference, were the unexpected ways in which disasters can affect our lives driven by new forces which Dr. Jeffrey Sachs, Director of the Earth Institute, said "we are not ready for."

The opening ceremony and official start of the Fourth Session of the Global Platform included a plenary on private sector for resilient societies, a high level dialogue, and featured events on optimizing financing for disaster risk management, an informal plenary on the post-2015 DRR framework, strengthening partnerships for small island developing states, and public-private partnerships.

I wasn't particularly standing up straight, but that was relatively typical posture.
It's important to note that I weigh almost exactly the same in these pictures as I do now. Within 5 lbs.
I thought it was long overdue that I did some comparsion of various noise reduction techniques and the workflow to make sure I'm getting the best out of the shots.
Here are 4 100% crops of this shot with different Noise reduction and lens correction techinques from left to right they are
- Canon's DPP software
- DPP + the inbuilt Digital Lens Optimiser (DLO) in the DPP software
- All RAW NR, lens correction removed in DPP and done in Lightroom only
- Basic "default" values in DPP then in Lightroom lower NR settings than in no3.
There is a slight colour difference in the 2 shots in lightroom, I left it as the default from loading the image (same with DPP) however they look slightly warmer.
I think it confirms that I had thought that a mix of both (eg the last shot) seems to handle the noise the best while giving the most detail.

Audio-reactive graphics, rendered in real-time on Processing. A group of particles are driven by a flow-field that reacts to sound's amplitude. Along the track the particles move around the screen with unpredictable paths generated by the sound inputs on the flow-field. Different types of visualizations are explored: the particles, the flow-field, and Voronoi cells created by the particles’ positions.

An English language brochure or leaflet issued by the Czechoslovak State Railways and giving details of fare reductions for various classes of railway tickets for tourists to Czechoslovakia. Although undated it has a very mid-1930s feel to it, especially in terms of graphic design. The front cover, with the stylised railway semaphore signal and the back cover, with a diagramatic map of the Czechoslovak Railways and the fine "CSD - Československé státní dráhy" flying wheel symbol are particularly noteworthy.
The brochure is credited to Atl. Rotter - Atelier Rotter - the important Prague based studio of designer Vilém Rotter (1903-1978) that seems to have existed between 1928 and 1939 when Czechoslovakia was invaded by Nazi Germany. Rotter, whose degree was in electrical engineering, developed his skills in Paris as a commercial and graphic designer. Being of Jewish descent Rotter was forced to flee and eventaully arrived in Britain where he remained until his death in 1978. He was commissioned by many important clients for publicity and poster work.
