Finding foundations can be an exhausting experience, but every time I stumble over one, it's like uncovering an open grave. In terms of memories, they're no less tied to life. At some sites, very little of the original stonework remains intact. No mortar was used between the stones, of course, just built up dry with the best fit that gravity could make. Here along the abandoned Broad Cove Road, there are many remnants of homesteads. Built by the families Adams, Middleton, Stark, and this one – Sweeney. Very little remains of them now, dirt cellars dug below structures long gone. Carefully stacked walls have been reduced to craters, softened by a century of spreading roots and erosion. In the northeast corner, all that still stands is a ninety degree angle against the steady descent of dirt. There was a time when a homestead stood here, high above the water of House Cliff Cove and Fundy beyond. Proud story of the effort it took to make a living on hard earth. Along this three kilometre stretch of derelict road, it's no wonder no one remains.

United Nations University World Institute for Development Economics Research (UNU-WIDER) in partnership with Universidad de los Andes (UNIANDES) convenes a three-day conference on reducing inequality, held in Bogotá, Colombia, 5-7 October 2022.
As new research uncovers the many negative impacts that high inequality can have, a consensus is emerging that achieving SDG 10: Reduced Inequalities is a global goal of critical importance.
The programme addresses major themes in inequality across keynote lectures, parallel sessions, and a policy dialogue event. Speakers include leading scholars of inequality, including Raquel Fernández and Francisco H. G. Ferreira. In addition, the VII Colombian Economic Congress forms part of the programme.
