Kentwell - a very different experience: a romantic, completely moated, mellow redbrick Tudor mansion in a tranquil parkland setting - but so much more.

A 30+ years Restoration Project

In 1970 Kentwell stood neglected. No-one was prepared to take it on - except Patrick Phillips. He fell for this wonderful House in its magical setting and was not deterred by its condition. Ever since then he has, with his wife and family, sought to bring Kentwell back to life. Their works have taken part of the House and its 15th Century Service Building back to the 16th Century. Elsewhere changes reflect their own preferences. House, Gardens & Farm have an unrivalled ability to captivate the visitor.

Take a glimpse into both the past and present of this unique House. Enjoy its delightful Gardens. You can do this whenever you come but especially if you visit during one of the award-winning Re-Creations of Tudor or WWII Everyday Life and (recently) Victorian life. Kentwell pioneered Tudor domestic Living History Events in the UK, and nearly 30 years on the Re-Creations are as magical as ever.

Teddington lock keepers 'station' at Teddington Lock.

I was out this afternoon in the sunshine looking for classic places in Teddington to photograph for a project I'm working on. This is the place where the lock keepers work during the day - it is a lovely Victorian redbrick building and the gardens under the walnut tree are always very well tended. Teddington Lock has both the largest and smallest locks on the River Thames and marks the top of the tidal part of the river. It also has the largest weir on the river along with a 'salmon leap' as the water is now surprisingly clean!

The elaborate Tudor redbrick Ardilaun stables survive, and have been modernised as the Red Stables Art Centre, with public facilities.

The Red Stables were renovated in the 1990s, and now hold artists' residences, an exhibition space and the Tir na nOg Caife open 7 days a week from 9:30am , Farmers' Market is held in their courtyard at the weekend.

I almost never use a flash. However, once in a while a flash can surprise me, like with this shot. The flash here created a fine shadow of the pipe on the brick wall in such a way that the pipe almost looks carved cleanly into the brick. Combined with the lines of the brick and random splashes of paint, I find the effect very interesting.

Taken with the wide-angle lens for that interesting perspective.

This is St Andrew's church on the corner of Creek and Ann Streets. The tower reminds me of those old Norman churches in England, but the rest of the design (and building material) does not fit that description.

This image exhibits some of the things I really dislike about digital photography on a budget: the chromatic aberration where the over-exposed white sky meets buiding; the generally poor performance on an overcast day; the noise.

I like the image though, alhough I'd love to see what a dSLR would make of it.
