Kentwell - a very different experience: a romantic, completely moated, mellow redbrick Tudor mansion in a tranquil parkland setting - but so much more.

A 30+ years Restoration Project

In 1970 Kentwell stood neglected. No-one was prepared to take it on - except Patrick Phillips. He fell for this wonderful House in its magical setting and was not deterred by its condition. Ever since then he has, with his wife and family, sought to bring Kentwell back to life. Their works have taken part of the House and its 15th Century Service Building back to the 16th Century. Elsewhere changes reflect their own preferences. House, Gardens & Farm have an unrivalled ability to captivate the visitor.

Take a glimpse into both the past and present of this unique House. Enjoy its delightful Gardens. You can do this whenever you come but especially if you visit during one of the award-winning Re-Creations of Tudor or WWII Everyday Life and (recently) Victorian life. Kentwell pioneered Tudor domestic Living History Events in the UK, and nearly 30 years on the Re-Creations are as magical as ever.

There's a garden up there -

The CHILD Haus, Quezon City – a non-profit group that caters to the shelter needs of young patients who cannot afford rented dwellings while undergoing treatment in government hospitals.

The iconic St Patrick’s Tower (part of the brewery), the tall redbrick building with a green dome is in the centre(it’ was actually an old windmill that has lost it’s blade sails).

This site has been the home of Guinness since 1759 and in 2009 they celebrated 250 years of brewing. Arthur Guinness signed a 9000 year lease on the St James’s Gate property, which at that point was only 4 acres, costing him the princely sum £45 and that was for the whole 9000 years! Each day this brewery alone produces 3 million pints of the black stuff for the Irish, UK, European and US markets. The 7 storey high Storehouse was a former fermentation plant which has been turned into the visitors centre. The story of Arthur Guinness and how to brew Guinness are told as you wind yourself round and up the various floors until you finally reach the highest point of the building, The Gravity Bar where you can get your free pint of Guinness and admire the 360o view of Dublin city. The views were great but it was still overcast and gloomy.

Source: Wikipedia.

Fond memories. Especially that blue material in the top half of the shot. But really someone ought to straighten that place out...

my nana, she has spanking new double glazing now

This redbrick storefront building was used as the Toole County Courthouse from 1914, when Toole County was created from parts of Hill and Teton counties, to 1935, when the current courthouse was built on the hill.

In definite need of some landscaping(note the two peach trees and desert willow in pots on the right.) and nothing really stands out about the front but the bricks are in excellent condition with no cracks in the foundation. I'd like to get rid of that huge antenna on the roof.

The redbrick part was actually built first and then the stone when more money became available.

Women's Volleyball versus Loughborough. Covering the event for Redbrick. This was my first attempt at indoor sports and it really pushed my equipment to the limit. With the D80 set to ISO3200 and the lens at f/2.8 I could still only manage 1/200 of a second - just enough to stop the action!!!

Irisvej 11 (built in 1925), 8260 Viby J.

Irisvej is part of the Rosenvænget-district, one of the oldest areas of Viby. Like many streets in this district, it is extremely narrow and not really suited for modern traffic at all.

In recent years, some of the original houses have either been demolished and replaced with new ones, or heavily modernized.

From a registrant photowalk series made for the local historical society. The purpose of these walks is not to take photos of individual buildings, but rather to document the streets as a whole in order to preserve the views for future generations.

Some houses will inevitably be obscured behind fences and hedges. In such cases, there will be a photo of the hedge or fence in question. The photo will, of course, be rubbish, but it will accurately show the best possible view from a public road. Over the years, fences and hedges will come and go (as will the houses), sometimes improving the views, other times, the opposite. Also, in some cases, there's a choice between a (reasonably) unobstructed view, but poor lighting conditions, or a severely obstructed view, but better lighting.

I respect people's privacy and generally use the following guidelines...

I blur: license plates of private vehicles parked by private (1- or 2-family) homes, legible names on mailboxes, recognizable faces in fore- or middleground of a photo. I do NOT blur: license plates of commercial vehicles, license plates of private vehicles in traffic (unless in very prominent position), license plates of parked private vehicles by apartment buildings and shops, faces in the background of a photo. For the same reasons, some photos will be downloadable, others not... download (generally) enabled for: public buildings, generic views (streets, nature, events etc.), apartment buildings. Download disabled for: private homes (1- or 2-family), photos of special importance to me.

Former hotel in downtown Chicago - Chicago Avenue

Lovely redbrick Victorian building opposite the train station in Redruth. It's an estate agent now, though I've no idea what it was when it was built - probably the head office of some wealthy copper mining company or something. It's always the first building I notice, and the last building I see when the train pulls into or out of the station.

(Someday I think I'd like to live in this building... noisy, though, I imagine.)

The Otto Schlemmer Building is on the National Register #78000026; it is also in the Crawfordsville Commercial Historic District #92000183.
