Women's Volleyball versus Loughborough. Covering the event for Redbrick. This was my first attempt at indoor sports and it really pushed my equipment to the limit. With the D80 set to ISO3200 and the lens at f/2.8 I could still only manage 1/200 of a second - just enough to stop the action!!!

A new redbrick keeper’s dwelling was built in 1857, and that same year, John Brown started work on the foundation of a fireproof lighthouse for Burlington Canal that would be built at a cost of $10,479.98 using blocks of dolomite limestone. The sixty-foot-tall tower is very similar to the six Imperial Towers that Brown erected on Lake Huron and Georgian Bay around this same time. To form the foundation, piles were driven deep into the ground and then capped with timbers and cement. The wooden portion of the foundation was laid below water level so it would always be covered and protected against decay.

In 1820, Jeremiah Chubb joined his brother Charles in starting their own lock company. They moved from Portsmouth to Wolverhampton, which was the lockmaking capital of Great Britain and, after occupying several properties in the city, commissioned architect C.H.M. Mileham to design this imposing 6-storey brick building on Fryer Street to act as their main factory in 1898. At it's height, 350 locksmiths were employed here. The Chubb lock reportedly became popular as a result of the interest generated when George IV accidentally sat on a Chubb lock that still had the key inserted.
Bøgevej (built in 1986), 8260 Viby J.
Viewed from the corner with Lindevej.
Bøgevej is part of the Rosenvænget-district on the border between Viby and Aarhus. It runs almost parallel with Jyllands Alle, the "border-street".
Like many other streets in the Rosenvænget district, Bøgevej is extremely narrow and undulating, built in an era where cars were extremely uncommon.
From a registrant photowalk series made for the local historical society. The purpose of these walks is not to take photos of individual buildings, but rather to document the streets as a whole in order to preserve the views for future generations.
Some houses will inevitably be obscured behind fences and hedges. In such cases, there will be a photo of the hedge or fence in question. The photo will, of course, be rubbish, but it will accurately show the best possible view from a public road. Over the years, fences and hedges will come and go (as will the houses), sometimes improving the views, other times, the opposite. Also, in some cases, there's a choice between a (reasonably) unobstructed view, but poor lighting conditions, or a severely obstructed view, but better lighting.
I respect people's privacy and generally use the following guidelines...
I blur: license plates of private vehicles parked by private (1- or 2-family) homes, legible names on mailboxes, recognizable faces in fore- or middleground of a photo. I do NOT blur: license plates of commercial vehicles, license plates of private vehicles in traffic (unless in very prominent position), license plates of parked private vehicles by apartment buildings and shops, faces in the background of a photo. For the same reasons, some photos will be downloadable, others not... download (generally) enabled for: public buildings, generic views (streets, nature, events etc.), apartment buildings. Download disabled for: private homes (1- or 2-family), photos of special importance to me.

Bøgevej 4 (built in 1902), 8260 Viby J.
According to old photos, this is a very beautiful house full of nice, crafted details, but due to hedges, fences and garages, this view is as good as it gets nowadays.

A homeless man takes refuge above a stairwell away from the cold weather near my house. All he has is this pillow and blanket. Beside his bed lay an empty vodka bottle. I walk past his little stoop everyday and wonder how he survives the cold and am glad he has somewhere to sleep that is sheltered.
The Arts District is a new development by EYA that is within the Hyattsville Historic District. I don't know if the dealership is a contributing feature to the historic district, but it looks like EYA is doing a heroic job of saving some things and working their new condos into the historic district.
I don't know about the fake bricked-over windows.
