In 1882 the new Parish of St. John The Divine, Gainsborough was formed from the Southern half of the Parish of Holy Trinity. The church, which has been disused for about five years now, is an austere, large redbrick building, apparantly designed to have a tower that was never built. It had attached to it a school that closed during the mid 1970s and a clergy house "Vigilans" to house a company of celibate priests. The interior of the Church was long, spacious with tall arcades, and featured a statue of St. John originally made for an exhibition in Chicago.
The building is Grade C listed (equivalent to Grade II)

A very grand Municipal building for the tiny town of Independence, Wisconsin. The place also housed the police and fire departments.
This early georgian red brick town house is on North Street in Castle Cary, Somerset, and was the home of the founder of the Macmillan Cancer Trust

This group of buildings is situated on Newbegin. Nearest the camera is the Metodist church (1870) flanked to the left by the church hall (1875). On the left of the picture is the Old Police Station of which Pevsner says "No. 75 was built as a police station, 1879 by Smith & Brodrick. A neat design of red brick with hipped slate roof, five bays with round-headed openings."

An abandoned factory and long out-of-service railroad in Beacon, NY...a town that holds innumerable charms for me. I recently tried to recreate this shot with my present camera, but was unable to...so here's the original! I like the balanced light, greenery, emptiness of the scene, the bluishness of the shadow and, most of all, the unusual curve of the railroad tracks.
