This guy really wasn't interested in me taking his photo. As soon as my car got near enough to get him in the frame he was off and running. I didn't have time to adjust the focal length to get him in the frame, so I clipped the wings. Only reason I even show these is I don't see this coloration very often.
Sometimes when driving along I will see something and say, "Ugh...I wish I had my camera with me."
This time I did. With a 150mm-600mm attached and ready to go.
I cautiously took some shots through the car window, then got out and shot from the door, then continued to walk up to it until it let me get about 15 feet away. Never experienced that before with a hawk.

One of many seen early this AM while looking for Short-eared Owls.
As usual, many different variations of plumage.
Judging from eye color, this appears to be an adult altho cannot see tail color.

I walked by this red tailed hawk without even seeing him, then turned,saw him, and he left within a split second. One other image was too blurred. This first one, surprisingly to me turned out O.K.
This is one of the Red-tailed Hawks that lives and hunts in my neighbourhood. I always find him perched on a power pole, and he recognizes my car as I drive towards him. He always flies away from me...but hah! I got him this time!
Red-tailed Hawk keeping an eye on its surroundings while finishing off its prey. I thought the green grass would provide some great contrast for this raptor.
Really enjoying the sun, it let me take tons of photos.
Red-tailed Hawk (Buteo jamaicensis). Per wikipedia "The cere, the legs, and the feet of the red-tailed hawk are all yellow." Many fotos purporting to be Red-tailed Hawks don't have these features.
