I thought it was a little unusual that it has one brown eye and one yellow eye.

Florida

Rounding a bend on one of the trails at Reifel, I stumbled upon this beautiful young Red-tailed Hawk that was just sitting in the path. Concerned for its well being, someone summoned the sanctuary staff to come and look at him. We pondered whether to call O.W.L., the rehab centre for raptors when the hawk made a lunge for a tree. Wings and tail looked intact, but he did have a rather scruffy hair do. We figured he must have smacked into a tree branch going after a small bird. He was just a bit stunned and settled into a tree to rest. After about twenty minutes, he left, apparently none the worse for wear.

Thunderbird pose. Came upon this immature hawk on a deer carcass. It was posing to ward off another raptor and, when I stopped, me. After a minute or so, it took off and landed on a post nearby, waiting impatiently for me to take my turn. I passed, leaving it the prize.

started taking my camera to work and it paid off. Not 500 or 600 mm but I got the shot. This red tailed hawk hangs out on these towers and got a little lower than the mocking birds cared for.

Correction, this is apparently a juvenile red-tailed hawk, not a swainson's, sorry bout that.

Daffy Duck Reference there, although this guy didn't hit the next tree

An earlier photo of the immature red-tail way up in that tree outside the pharmacy. Wasn't as close to the hawk, then.
