I like the pattern these berries make...and the colour...and I will try to find a link to the flowers from earlier in the season...

(Geranium robertianum ssp. robertianum) Herb Robert; Robert Geranium

(Geranium sanguineum)

The plant comes in colors ranging from pinks, blues and vivid purples to subdued whites. Species in the Geranium genus have a distinctive mechanism for seed dispersal. This consists of a beak-like column which springs open when ripe and casts the seeds some distance. The common name ‘cranesbill’ comes from the shape of the unsprung column, which in some species is long and looks like the bill of a crane.

There was something about viewing the cemetery through these Hydrangeas, that really caught my eye.

Redstem ceanothus is a common shrub in the open dry montane understory at the north end of the Cabinet Mountains, west of Libby, Lincoln County, Montana. Broad deciduous leaves with a main tridentate leaf venation distinguish this species from other Ceanothus. Common in Montana only in the northwestern-most counties.

Erodium cicutarium. This Mediterranean Basin native was introduced to North America in the 18th century, and now is common in the deserts and grasslands. The bright pink flowers provide pollen for honeybees. The seedpod does resemble a storks bill when fresh. As it drys inside the pod, the seed awn begins to twist into a spring shape. When "ripe", it launches open and drifts to the ground. As the humidity changes daily, the spiral shape of the seed expands and contracts, inducing self-burial. They also get caught in fur and clothes, which spreads the seed. It can be a painful sliver-like device on pets.

It's always a battle between the fiddleneck and stork's bill. They don't get along. Sometimes the fiddleneck win, sometimes the stork's bill win. The object is to poison as many horses as they can. Horses don't know any better; they just graze.
