Images from a cruise out of Rochester in the River Medway and into the Thames Estuary on the X-Pilot. The destination was the Maunsell Forts at Red Sands. WWII air defence and 60's pirate radio!
'Each year The Light In Winter is marked at the start by a campfire created with the elders of Melbourne's indigenous people. It extends a welcome to all who visit and burns throughout June.
These "Maunsell Forts" were placed in the Thames Estuary in WW2 to help defend London.
Today this cluster of 7 is cared for by Project Redsand (www.project-redsand.com/).
I was thrilled to visit them, 8 miles out at sea, and to explore them with National Geographic and Visit Britain.

Prince Edward Island has 3 touring regions: Central, North Cape, and Points East. We toured all three. Central is split into two halves: Red Sands Shore (Southern coast) and Green Gables Shore (Northern Coast).
The Green Gables area is the only area we didn't explore much. And the only area where I didn't get a picture of the sign.
There are many such Red Jewel Bugs foraging for small dodonaea (hopbush) seeds ...this one was the most co operative ! the others, when disturbed by me & the camera, would turn & face me, & give a flick of their wings/wing covers ..wait a bit, then scurry off, trundling their seed along underneath their bodies ..like rolling on a ball bearing in a cage :) I will try another day to get their full colours !
