These small birds feed by spinning in a circle in the water, creating a small upwelling underneath their bodies. They spend most of the winter in open ocean and nest in the Arctic tundra in the summertime.
Red-necked phalarope with geese and black-tailed godwits. Sadly, only a tiny object whirligigging in the distance.

Loved this guy....Wendy was walking up ahead of me crossing over the bridge on this creek when I saw this guy floating below her. It floated right below her feet.

A dainty red-necked phalarope was the star bird at Covenham Reservoir at the weekend attracting a steady flow of admirers.
