This is Hans (whose original name is Tangerine Dream) in the cage. Kiff (and Merry and I) trapped him at Dorothy's house a while ago. Since then he and his brother Fritz (originally named Apricot Fluff) had been living in Merry's cat house. However, she had a lot of the ex-feral kittens at the house and was happy when we adopted out Dexter and Antares because they our house was freed up for more foster kittens. Hans and Fritz (the Katzenjammer Kids ... as named by Merry) have an appointment with the vet on Monday to get snipped. For those of you who do not speak English well, that means that they will get neutered (they will have their testicles removed). Hans (and Fritz the many-toed kitty) are our new fosters and they are progressing well. They were and are still a bit feral, but we spend as much time with them every day and hold them and play with them. I can even lay down on the bed that the cage is on and pet them while they are running around the room. We'll learn 'em yet!

As those of you who have been looking at my Australia photos from the recent trip know, the amazing beauty of that country has profoundy affected me. I actually have had dreams of red, glowing rock and soil! This necklace is a love song for the sacred Ewaninga Petroglyph site - red rock with hardy sage-y green desert plants and the glorious, ancient petroglyphs :).

This striking necklace features dry creek jasper beads with red jasper rounds and a landscape jasper pendant that has been carefully hand-wrapped in reclaimed sterling silver wire. It is finished with a sterling silver lobster clasp.
Jasper is an opaque, impure variety of silica, usually red, yellow, brown or green in color. The name means "spotted or speckled stone", and is derived via Greek iaspis, from a Semitic language.
The classification and naming of jasper presents an enormous challenge. Terms attributed to various well-defined materials includes the geographic locality where it is found, sometimes quite restricted such as "Bruneau" (a canyon) and "Lahontan" (a lake), rivers and even individual mountains, many are fanciful such as "Forest Fire" or "Rainbow", while others are descriptive such as "Autumn", "Porcelain" or "Dalmatian". A few are designated by the country of origin such as a Brown Egyptian or Red African leaving tremendous latitude as to what is called what.
Sterling silver is a white, highly reflective precious metal composed of 925 parts of pure silver and 75 parts alloy, usually copper. Copper provides the silver with sufficient hardness and wearing qualities, as pure silver is sometimes considered too soft to be used or worn everyday.

* The dry creek jasper puff coins are about 10mm in diameter, accented with 6mm red jasper rounds, and the entire necklace is approximately 20 inches (50.8cm) in length.

This is a recent belt buckle commission for one of my favorite clients in Mt. Dora, FL. She always gives me creative control, but this time she sent me some elements she wanted included in the piece: the vintage amtheyst beads and the cooper bird. The rest of the buckle was created using dusty pink glass beads, small turquoise beads, red jasper beads and the solid turquoise heart. The theme I was conveying with this piece was her "flight" into the arms of love as she recently married the man of her dreams!!
What an amazing Christmas present this will be!!

So I made the jewelry for the Art Bead Monthly Challenge using one of my own polymer clay and gemstone beads! This painting was one of two that we could choose for our inspiration. As you'll see below, I chose a red, orange and yellow color palette using Red Jasper, orange Serpentine, yellow Swarovski (citrine), and lustrous red freshwater pearls. Copper findings. The focal bead is handmade by myself from polymer clay using my fingers and a ton of patience. Each petal and leaf is formed by hand, and gently placed. Vines are hand-rolled. The carnelian cabochon is held in place by vines and leaves. Then the entire bead was coated with polymer clay sealant. =^.^= I was seriously tempted to add blue to this design, but to be honest... while I was stringing I forgot all about the blues. *laughs* Regardless, I think this necklace turned out great!

Turquoise elongatged flat nuggets and antique gold finish spacers and a strikingly pretty red jasper carved flower sitting to the side.
Large Red Jasper stone necklace was created for Ulrike since she sent me the stone. I wove the bezel from seed beads, bugle beads, Carnelian rounds and hex cut beads. The double chain is seed beads and Carnelian. This pendant is 3" across.
These earrings are so much fun! My mom does not have pierced ears and I've been trying to come up with some earrings she could wear that would be more comfortable than the clip-on earrings. I call these slip-on earrings because that is what they do, slip over your earlobe...and stay there. I made myself a pair to wear to make sure they would stay put. I've turned my head upside down and shook it all over the place, yet the earrings did not fall off. And they're more comfortable than pierced earrings when you're on the phone. I could barely feel them. If they are a little wide or narrow for you, you can gently open them up or close them a little. Once you have them adjusted you will not have to keep doing so.
These earrings are made of gold-filled wire that has been formed and hammered to make a nice medium size hoop for people who do not have pierced ears. They have 8x15mm, pillow red jasper gemstone beads hanging from them. Hoops measure 1 1/4 inches wide and 2 inch long from top of hoop to bottom of stone. Stone can also be taken off the hoop if you want to wear the hoop alone.
