This is a pile of tiny polished rocks. I'm pretty sure that some of this is red jasper but there are a few other specimens that I don't know, like the translucent one on the right. If there are any rock hounds that can identify them, I'd be happy to know. HMM!

The model today is holding a fairy necklace I made with Red Jasper hearts. Made it many moons ago. Still love it and still wear it. :-) Happy smile on Saturday theme today = gemstones. HSoS! :-)

BTS: Took this pic in the living room. The background is our yard. The model is another BJD I put together. Added her green sparkly eyes, wig and clothes. Such fun! :-)

Various pieces of tumbled Jasper

For many years the fragments of this face were dispersed in various collections, but in 1993 it became possible to reunite the pieces through an exchange with the Petrie Museum, London (the cheek, 1993.27a, b), and a long-term loan from the Musée du Louvre, Paris (the eye, L.1993.21a, b). Part of a red jasper thumb in the collection (26.7.1398b) probably belonged to the same statue. The original statue was probably what we call a "composite statue" in which the face and other areas of exposed flesh (the hands and feet) were carved from jasper and rest of the statue was carved from Egyptian alabaster, limestone, or wood. Although such statues most frequently come from the the reign of Akhenaten in the Amarna period (ca. 1353-1336 BCE), this work has been dated to the reign of Akhenaten's grandfather, Thutmose IV, on stylistic grounds.

Type F1. Oval gem engraved with the image of the portrait bust of winged Nemesis. She is holding a small wheel in her right hand and pulling out her drapery with her left hand.

The goddess Nemesis was the personification of moral right and retribution against those who committed crimes or had excessive pride. The wheel probably signifies the turning of fate - in essence, a wheel of fortune. This gem would have been seen to be apotropaic - protecting the owner against good luck turning bad.

Delicate gold and sage green beads surround gorgeous red jasper in these elegant earrings.

Using a palette of subtle earth tones, I created these delicate, dangling earrings by weaving a matte gold bezel in tiny delica beads around red jasper stones. These gorgeous jasper stones have tones from terra cotta to brick, which I contrasted with the silvery green matte sage beadwork around the edge. The settings for these earrings were created using a combination of off loom beadweaving and bead embroidery. Each bead is woven in or sewn in by hand, with multiple passes of thread through each tiny seed bead.

I wove in small closed sterling silver rings into the outer edge of the beadwork and hung these delicate pendants from beautiful sterling silver ear wires. The backs of the earrings are finished off with soft tan ultra suede.

This is Crater Agate from Patagonia, Argentina

"Crater agate sure is a beauty! It is characterized by its lovely contrast of vivid red jasper against a hazy black chalcedony. These specimens can be found in Patagonia, Argentina.

www.gaumers.com/crater-agate-patagonia-argentina/

"Discovered in 1997 in a remote area of Patagonia, crater agate, also called red fox agate, is a variety of red and black botroydial agate that is often noted for its brutal appearance. The stone is also very fluorescent due to salt impurities in the stone. It is very hard to find, and remains a prized collectors piece!

On a personal note. My daughter is interested in gems, minerals, rocks, and stones. We took a daytrip to Tucson. It was our first time to the shows. There are actually something like 3 dozen shows around Tucson. We went to the Tucson Convention Center for about 3 hours and then to the Kino Sports Complex for about 1.5 hours. We had hoped to get to the 22nd St show and the GIGM Show on W. Starr Pass but did not have time. I wish I had bought my tickets in advance, it would have saved about 30-40 minutes of waiting in line at the Convention Center. I'm glad I brought a Circular Polarizer to cut some of the glare of the glass exhibit cases.

"Every year the world-renowned Tucson Gem, Mineral & Fossil Showcase is like a time portal, a trip around the world, and a treasure hunt all rolled into one. Every winter, more than 65,000 guests from around the globe descend upon Tucson, AZ, to buy, sell, trade, and bear witness to rare and enchanting gems, minerals, and fossils at more than 40 gem show locations across the city. If you're planning a winter visit to Tucson, you won't want to miss this three-week-long event.

"Whether you’re looking for a $5 shimmering crystal necklace or a show-stopping $200,000 crystallized rock from an exotic location, the Tucson Gem, Mineral, & Fossil Shows have something for everyone.

Artist Statement,

On July 15th my spouse was in a life and death situation.

I found her and moments later she stopped breathing.

What followed was a horrific time of uncertainty in many areas of our life.

Gratefully, after a day on a ventilator she bounced back and with each day that passes,

our life is becoming whole again. "The loss of you and you and you"

speaks directly to the many losses experienced during this time.

Not only on the 15th, and afterward, but the year preceding

it as well. Art therapy.

Happily, since carving this piece much healing has begun.

Still, I honor the honesty of the moment and finish it as I pictured

it all along, with a river of tears shed this month. This year.

But a solid foundation exists.

I designed this one-of-a-kind (OOAK) statement necklace for the August Etsy Beadweavers Challenge which focused on the theme "Sea Adventures. As a child I remember visiting the tide pools along the Oregon coast during family vacations. The strange and colorful creatures that lived in those tide pools served as the inspiration for this piece, for which I created a modern interpretation of a cluster of sea urchins in shades of burnt orange and turquoise blues.

Red jasper cabochon set in a large copper pendant featuring a lot of appliqued details with tendrils, tiny hand cut and finished leaves and lots of tiny copper balls. Matching loop bail riveted in place. There is a similar leaf pattern detail on the reverse.

Two lovely Green Turquoise gemstones with darker veins weaving through them is accented with golden Pyrite and rich Red Jasper smooth round beads and wrapped with bare copper wire completely around a handcrafted Sterling Silver spiral ring frame. The ring is then oxidized and polished to give a subtle patina to the silver and soften the brightness of the copper wire adding contrast to the wirework.

These soft pink freshwater pearls contrast strikingly with rough little asteroidal lava beads. They are knotted on black silk and hanging from the strand is a hollow formed, pendant/clasp, of my own design. Just put the key into the hole on the back, slide it through the slot, over to the edge and up to the top, where it rests. It operates very smoothly and is very secure.

The length is 18", including the 2" diameter pendant.

When Dorothy ran from her home she encountered Professor Marvel acclaimed by the crowned heads of Europe. He was stirring his campfire and there he told stories of oddities and marvels from around the world. Oh the wonderful places and things he must have seen! My piece is a Princess and her pet tiger he could have encountered in his many travels, whether it be in his rustic wagon or his exhibition balloon. He had so any stories to fill Dorothy's head.

This cuff will fit several different wrist sizes by gently bending the brass cuff; from about a 5.5 inch wrist to a 7 inch wrist. The width at the largest point measures 2 1/4 inch and the remainder of the cuff is 1 3/8th's. The tiger princess is a porcelain cabochon surrounded by seed beads and red jasper chips, with turquoise bead embellishments.

Handcrafted wire wrapped collar. Sterling and gemstones are incorporated securely into the wire work. Flowing curves soften the hard lines of the metals and an asymmetrical flair makes this a dramatic addition to your private collection. Wear the collar alone or add charms, tags or pendants.

A clasp allows it to be worn as a discreet, daytime collar, or a small padlock can be slipped through the loops, allowing the collar to be locked.

Bird's eye agate and red jasper from the Rings and Things Trunk Show, Atlanta 2010.

This is another piece inspired by the Red Centre of Australia, most specifically Wurre (Rainbow Valley). I actually dreamed about Wurre last night - a peaceful dream - and the remnants of the dream keep coming back, mainly in flashes of color. The organic colors and patterns in the bird's eye agate reminds me of the bands of colors that run through the monolith; the red jasper of the glowing red sandstone at sunset.

We often work in so-called alternative materials. This leads people to ask if we do more "traditional work. We do. Here's proof. Pendant in blue dendritic agate and red jasper, in a sterling silver setting. We mined and cut the stones as well as fabricating the setting.

I took some new shots of the earrings I've created so far and in row 2 and 3 you can see some new creations as well (I've added notes to indicate them) .... hope you'll enjoy!

(For those interested: the beautiful & sophisticated earhooks of my new creations are handcrafted by lovely Etsy sellers AUNALI and BETTY BRITE.)

Earlier this year, nudged by a wonderful & inspiring friend who sells precious stones of a beauty-full quality, I started dipping my toes into jewelry crafting, making earrings out of said precious stones & Sterling silver. This collection shows the first results ~ with many more to come shortly.

Finishing up a custom order of 3 pairs first though. I'm also giving wire wrapping a try ... so far, I'm loving playing around with all those different shapes, sizes, and color combos and on top of that those stones are just awesome!

Shhhhht: I've just received some wonderrrrrrrrrrrr-full earwires...and I'm totally excited to put them to use (read: "creative day coming soon") ;o)

This handcrafted Alaskan volcanic stone pendant is created swirling and shaping gold toned copper wire by hand, adding vintage metallic beads, Red Jasper beads and a bone bead to enhance the natural beauty and shape of the stone.

I discovered this stone on the beach of Homer, Alaska. Known as the “End of the Road”, this is possibly the only place in the world where several glaciers and active volcanoes, known as the Pacific Rim of Fire, can be viewed at the same time.

It measures 1" across and 2" top to tip including the bail.

The bail is designed to be large enough to accommodate your favorite chain, choker or cord. Chain not included.
