'FRIENDS WITH BENEFITS'.

A Jackdaw searches intently for parasites, insects and larvae that might be harbouring in the stag's ears and body hairs. The stag tolerates the attention as if it knows it is being relieved of annoying body pests.

The Red Deer coats are looking in poor condition at the moment after the long winter. If you enlarge this image, you will notice that the stag has lost a lot of the hair at the top of its neck. The Spring moult has begun and happens quite quickly, over 3-4 weeks. A new, thinner summer coat is natures way of helping the animals adjust to higher temperatures.

NB : I doubt the hair loss on the neck is all down to the Spring moult...when not searching for food, the Jackdaw was adept at yanking out clumps of hair and flying off with it to line its nest!

Red Fox

The best way to identify Red-necked Phalaropes is by all the disabled vehicles around their nest. This one we attracted to my speaker by playing Garth Brooks. #redneckjokes

The fireworks started after the F-111 jet, that was a few months back.

It was such a pleasure being back among the Ancient Caledonian Pine trees which is always such a great place no matter the time of year, however the colours on display at the moment make it a magnificent sight.

I joined a new group for a Sunday morning photowalk and the organiser wanted us to concentrate on "seeing" Selective Colours around us.

Another visit to Llandeusant Red Kite Feeding Centre :-)

This cardinal landed in my backyard while I was having a cigarette. I ran inside to get my camera, thinking it wasn't going to be there when I got back. But it was! So I started taking pictures of it. I kept moving closer and closer (I was flat on the ground shimmy-ing military style. My dad would have been proud.) and I swear my lens was only like 2 feet away from it. It sat there for a good 15 minutes until I flew away. It was funny cause every time I snapped the camera it would change a pose. If there was a Top Model for birds, he totally would have won.

Red Merino wool and deep pink variegated German superwash wool are crocheted together to form the neckband of this scarflette. Then ruffles are crocheted around all edges in the deep pink yarn and a 1940's vintage flower button is used as a closure.

In this series Deanna and I explored a range of looks and emotions. Despite the way some of these look, we actually had fun in the process.

for me, this is how every photo outing should end...

I do must of all nature photography, and from time to time city life. I enjoy trying new techniques, and transforming some of my photos into something different and ( I think) artistic.

The little cherry tree in my garden blooms only briefly each year, but the blossom is glorious. On a sunny day it's brimming with life as the insects make the most of the abundant pollen.
