Today was graduation day for a wonderful group of ladies. Their hard work and dedication paid off for them today as they received their diploma from Dallas Modeling Academy.
Each of these beautiful ladies, including the staff of Dallas Modeling Academy, wore the beautiful designs of Vero Modero. They all looked amazing in their gown. Beautifully styled and shown with beauty, elegance, and skill showing their experience as models. They are ready to take any runway with professional style and experience.
Special thanks to Jena Adder who was our beautiful and wonderful hostess. DJ Shapeshifter7 who kept the flow moving with her hit tunes. Our photographer Lea, thank you so much for being there.
I also want to thank Suki Rexen and Lopez Fairlady for entrusting me to produce and direct the graduation show. To my sister Daneen Sands, sis, I could not have done it with you. I love you sis.
Most importantly, I want to thank the graduates today for a job well done. I wish you much success as you continue in your career.

It was such a special experience to spend an hour with these red fox kits last weekend. There was quite a bit of heat haze/distortion, but I came away with a few decently-sharp photos despite that. The fox kits stayed in their dens until the sun came out! I can't say that I blame them, I usually stay inside if the weather's bad too!

Red-bellied woodpeckers (Melanerpes carolinus) are extremely common in Florida. Indeed, their recent northward range expansion has made them a common sight in parts of northern New England. The species began pushing northward and westward about one hundred years ago, but the trend has accelerated in the last 60 years. During the first phase of range expansion, the individuals in the northern front of the expansion had enlarged bodies, a manifestation of "Bergmann's Rule." The rule has broken down in the latter phase of expansion, suggesting that the relevant selective forces that influenced body size in such range expansion was probably colder climate, a factor diminished by global warming. The genus Melanerpes also includes the red-headed woodpecker and acorn woodpecker.

Red is considered an auspicious colour in a number of cultures: in Italy it's customary to present a loved one with a small, red gift on New Year's Eve; in China it's considered to bring good luck and is associated with celebration; in India it symbolises purity and is worn by brides in many Asian cultures. So here is a toast to your good health and good fortune in 2014 - a little early, I know, but I'm going to be pretty busy until January 1st/2nd so I thought I'd get ahead of the game!
Macro Mondays, Redux - Glass: re-visiting a shot-through-glass I attempted earlier in the year that just refused to work. Happier with this result, although there's still room for improvement. HMM & Happy New Year!

ODC, Glass (shooting through/into a glass) - I tried this earlier in the year and it didn't work at all. This is much better but there's still room for improvement, however, it seems apt for this time of year.

This is my 15th year covering this fun festival filled with color and pageantry and beautiful people. Each year some of the regulars return and sometimes fresh new faces appear to join the eclectic Renaissance Family. Some are vendors or employees, and some customers dress up to fit in with the renaissance festival fun and its 16th century way of life. One big happy family of a few thousand escaping the dull drums of their daily life for a few hours. This year's crop of new faces was lovely. Hope you enjoy the images. I try to capture their joy. Always fun, festive, very colorful and exciting!

The severe winter has been tough on raptors including this red-tailed hawk that's been visiting my backyard. Here he's eyeing a squirrel but missed!
Red Fox in the last light of a summer day image was shot at after 8pm. The golden light framed him well although he does lack a touch of detail due to shooting at 3.5. Image was shot in Cavendish Prince Edward Island.
