An inspiring morning amongst the trees and rolling countryside. These little guys were a lot tamer than anticipated. Didn't quite nail the perfect shot but happy to just see them in the wild.

The Reds are native to the UK, unlike their better known and more frequently sighted cousins, the Grey Squirrel. The Greys are native to North America and were first released in the UK in 1876 by the Victorians. The Greys are bigger and have a reputation for being more aggressive but also carry the squirrel pox virus which, although it doesn’t seem to harm the Greys, is a serious infection for Red squirrels.

Took hundreds of grouse pics yesterday and found flaws in most of them. These included: cluttered backgrounds, grouse not paying attention (lol), over exposed/underexposed grouse, soft grouse (i think due to slowish shutter speed 1/200 sec). Some of these cant be helped and are part of wildlife photography fun.

The light was good and I used spot metering to expose the grouse. At times this worked well but it has been pointed out (by my photography coach and 4th favorite uncle) that on occasions the white feet of grouse can burn out due to over exposure. This was the case in a number of my pictures.

Could anyone tell me whether on shoots like this they would use spot metering or evaluative? I have left my camera on spot metering since i bought it. Any tips would be appreciated...

The ubiquitous London double deckers

Haven't been out with the camera for four weeks. Hope to get out soon. Apologies for lack of recent comments. I've had a lot happening away from photography

Want to wish all my friends on flickr (and their families) a very Happy 2013.

Thought I'd sign off 2012 with a pic of one of my favourite subjects. The little guys at this location have been having a very hard time of late. Don't know if any are hanging on. If they are I hope they have a better 2013

All the best everyone.

I'm so stuck for ideas for photos I've had to resort to taking photos of cushions, lol! But red is my favourite colour and I'm rather proud of my new red cushions in our living room - I'm veering away from the orange and blue theme a little! The large (and they are a little bit too big) tartan cushions came from Matalan, the smaller tartan ones from Tesco and the plain red came from a charity shop! There is less room to sit now, but I think they look rather nice together!!

One of my clients has a feeder about 10 feet from the driveway. I spent nearly three hours sitting in my car, trying to get a shot of this guy. But every time he flew into the tree with the feeder, he would spend about 3 seconds there and then take off again. I was so frustrated. When he landed here on the rock about 35 feet away, I took this shot, not even expecting it to come out. I thought it was too far away for my 300mm. I was pleasantly surprised when I opened it photoshop... and that is the bird's true color... I didn't alter it at all. I pretty much just cropped this pic.

For Color My World--Monday is Red Day

Taken at an Exposure Cleveland photowalk late last summer. Although it was another blue sky, sunny day...heavy rains and strong storms rolled through shortly after snapping this photo.

Tone mapped a single RAW file in Photomatix, colors de-saturated, and added a slight vintage action in Photoshop.

Hope everyone had a wonderful Valentine's Day!

This paper is a Japanese paper. There is unevenness of a red wave to a black ground.

It is a Japanese Kamakura carving-like design. and this paper is very strong.

Red-backed Shrike (Lanius collurio).

I’m kicking of the first weeks of the New Year with some new MOCs! I’ll be working on a few Red Cog mechs throughout the year. Inspiration draws from the KG bots in the Jak and Daxter series.Feel free to add to the theme. =)

Red Cog: Locust

A superior bipedal robot used for “quality control” of the Qunitos galaxy. The Locust units in particular serve as the “poster boys” for the RED COG faction. They, along with their mechanical brothers were developed to aid in conquest of the Korthos sector in the Quintos galaxy. Every factory produced mech is clad in red armor and sent off for battle, defense, or surveillance. Currently the RED COG faction has been met with resistance from surrounding planets, as well as both HERO FACTORY and Earth issued forces.

Typical RED COG mech weapons include blasters, energy beams, bombs, missile launchers, spinning blades of death and sniper rifles. The standard hand to hand combat is not out of question either. There are numerous types designed for different environments and assignments.

Enjoy! This also serves as my concept idea for the group project -Disty- started over in www.flickr.com/groups/1412762@N23/

Pouring rain tonight and I had this song stuck in my head so it seemed like a good time to take this shot. Love this song even when it is sunny out, Peter Gabriel is amazing!

Strobist Info: Pentax 540fgz on full power with a red gel about 2 feet in front of the subject. Viivitar 285HV on 1/2 through a mini softbox camera right about 15 feet from subject. - I think I needed just a bit more fill but overall I am happy with the shot.

Red, red wine, it's up to you

All I can do I've done

Memories won't go, memories won't go

Life is fine every time,

Thoughts of you leave my head

I was wrong, now I find

Just one thing makes me forget

After living in Denmark for 1½ years I finally had a close encounter with a red fox!

I positioned myself on the edge of a field to wait for a roe deer to come closer. All of a sudden this beauty turned up, and in a matter of seconds it walked passed by. Only after making a little sound it discovered me and looked up for a split second. Even though it is mid May it is still shedding.

Top day out photographing red squirrels. Unfortunately the weather was wet although it seems it was nice everywhere else! Had to shoot at iso 3200!

This poor little squirrel and the others seem to have been rubbing there nose on something?

Managed to catch the reflection of the woodland in this squirrels eye while it was chomping on a hazelnut.
