Liz West, an artist based at Rogue Studios in Manchester, creates site-specific installations in response to interior spaces, using found objects and a painter’s sensibility of colour and light. Through minimal yet effective means, West transforms the everyday and mundane into compelling sculptural forms. She indulges her compulsion to collect – sourcing things of all sizes, material and function from the modern world – in an exploration of how we classify objects according to taste, use, value and worth.

“Consumed” is West’s new commission for the Barnaby Festival in Macclesfield and her largest installation to date. Situated in an empty shop unit in the town’s Grosvenor Centre, West has created a sensory experience using hundreds of collected transparent objects which have been carefully positioned on light boxes and encased in Perspex boxes to form compacted colour masses. By presenting these objects as museum pieces, West’s recycled sculptures take on new identities in a theatrical light.

Highly commended: Timberley Primary School (an Academy) - another very impressive entry, indicating a wide variety of recycling / re-use applications and making excellent use of reclaimed materials to create interesting environments for plants, animals and pupils.

These gorgeous tea light holders are made using two recycled CD's! They are even more stunning and reflective when lit.

They are for sale now from 'Fancy Tat Crafts', 'We specialise in creating new and beautiful treasures by upcycling pre-loved or neglected stuff! Our products are lovingly handmade from unwanted and salvaged objects. Our philosophy is to re-use wherever possible.'

The covers are old placemats covered in vintage dress making patterns.

Japanese screws and hinges bind the book so it can be added to later.

Bits of my own art and found paper are inside, paper bags, unused bits from my stash..

One of a kind journal.

I keep forgetting that Ottobre patterns are generally sized perfectly for my giant baby. She just hit 80 cm tall, but could definitely have used the size 74 romper with a little leg length added. My old baggy pj pants never looked better. Leg and arm hems were cut on the existing finished edge, and raglan sleeves have an extra seam because the fabric had a convenient seam along what would become Ella's shoulder line.

Since, for some reason, recycling wasn't built into the janitorial contract with the union, a number of students years ago got together to start a "recycling club" which put fine paper recycling boxes in every classroom. The tradition continued and it became (or may have always been) part of a club called "Awareness Now," which focused on social and environmental issues... I was president of the club for a while, so got the pleasure of emptying recycling bins on a weekly basis.

Recycled art firmly believes in making heaven of hell. It's always wonderful to see how one man's junk is turned into another's artwork.

Took my old and broken Nikon Nikkor 55-200mm VR lens out to play around with and discovered I could take the front assembly and turn it into a semi-macro lens.

Excuse the video's sucky-ness because I have no idea what I'm doing and barely figured out how to use Adobe Premiere Pro. It's sped up a bit so that I could fit it into Flickr's limits and to keep the file size down because I forgot I switched it to 1080P.

Really hard to manually focus, pan (with an old broken tripod too) and hold the the front assembly to my lens.

Music: Nine Inch Nails - Ghosts I-IV - 36 or something like that.

I usually recycle anything that I can anyway but this was the excuse to

go through my files! I tend to save everything, unnecessarily. I

recycled all unnecessary documents and organized all of my files. It is

amazing how quickly I can find things now!

This is a great campaign, even without the iPad... but since you are

offering it as a prize, I hope I win!

This is a vintage dress that I altered to include the top of an old cowboy boot. I also added elastic straps and panels, and cut away portions of the old dress, in an attempt to make it fit more actual humans. Like many vintage dresses it had a narrow waist designed to fit over undergarments that aren't really worn that often any more. As a result the dress is too big for me now - thank goodness I was planning on selling it anyway. I have a big sale this weekend and can't wait to see it on someone with boobs.
