Kinkaku-ji "Temple of the Golden Pavilion"), officially named Rokuon-ji, lit. "Deer Garden Temple"), is a Zen Buddhist temple in Kyoto, Japan.
The garden complex is an excellent example of Muromachi period garden design. The Muromachi period is considered to be a classical age of Japanese garden design. The correlation between buildings and its settings were greatly emphasized during this period. It was a way to integrate the structure within the landscape in an artistic way. The garden designs were characterized by a reduction in scale, a more central purpose, and a distinct setting.
A minimalistic approach was brought to the garden design, by recreating larger landscapes in a smaller scale around a structure.
It is designated as a National Special Historic Site and a National Special Landscape, and it is one of 17 locations comprising the Historic Monuments of Ancient Kyoto World Heritage Site. It is also one of the most popular buildings in Japan, attracting a large number of visitors annually.

Background: Redondo Beach, CA 02-22-22
Images combined and processed in Photoshop 2022. Unlike most of the composites I create these days, in which I at least try to match the time of day and sun position, in this image combination, the foreground wave splash was shot in the late afternoon under a thick marine layer, with no sun at all and the background sunset was photographed about 75 miles north right after a short burst of rain.
Dreams
By Langston Hughes
Hold fast to dreams
For if dreams die
Life is a broken-winged bird
That cannot fly.
Hold fast to dreams
For when dreams go
Life is a barren field
Frozen with snow.

Chinese gardens are constructed to recreate and miniaturize larger natural landscapes. Traditionally, Chinese gardens blend unique, ornate buildings with natural elements. Just about every Chinese garden contains architecture, like a building or pavilion; decorative rocks and a rock garden; plants, trees and flowers; and water elements, like ponds. Most Chinese gardens are enclosed by a wall and some have winding paths. Chinese gardens aren’t just thrown together. Instead, they’re deliberately designed and visitors should walk through them in the particular order that the garden was laid out.
The Chinese Garden of Friendship (simplified Chinese: 谊园; traditional Chinese: 誼園) is a heritage-listed 1.03-hectare (3-acre) Chinese garden at 1 Harbour Street, in the Sydney Central Business District, City of Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. Modelled after the classic private gardens of the Ming Dynasty, the garden offers an insight into Chinese heritage and culture. It was designed by Guangzhou Garden Planning & Building Design Institute, Tsang & Lee, and Edmond Bull & Corkery and built from 1986 to 1988 by Gutteridge Haskins & Davey; the Darling Harbour Authority; Imperial Gardens; Leightons; and Australian Native Landscapes. The gardens were added to the New South Wales State Heritage Register on 5 October 2018. The Chinese Garden of Friendship was designed by Sydney's Chinese sister city, Guangzhou in China. Sydney's Chinatown complements the area's already rich in Chinese heritage and culture. The garden was officially opened 17 January 1988 as part of Sydney's Bicentennial Celebrations and named the Chinese Garden of Friendship symbolising the bond established between China and Australia. 14974

45:52 Recreate a famous photograph – one that you greatly admire.
Ok, so I don't have a 'famous' photo in mind here, but definitely one I greatly admire !!
Her style & collection of miniatures is second to none, so that's what I chose to recreate....one of Monique's mini's.
This ones for you Monique, hope I did you justice & thanks for being such an inspiration.
I've missed a few weeks from last years challenge, but I'm still hoping to catch up.
45/52 Recreate a famous photograph – one that you greatly admire.
In 1932 Ansel Adams took his rose on driftwood photograph after his Mother gave him a rose from her garden. A problem was posed by the lack of a suitable background and Adams tried all manner of objects without success. Eventually he remembered this piece of wave-worn ply driftwood that he had picked up at a nearby beach. He took 6 different exposed images @ f45 for his. My rose is resting on my chunky slab of driftwood brought back from Iceland years ago and is 6 blended images.
Adams image is usually seen with selenium toning, this was the result of a much later reprocessing. It can be seen here:
www.coolantarctica.com/Shop/ansel_adams/driftwood_rose.php
However when I tried this my rose looked ike a cabbage :) so I did it my way!
...recreated. The weather was not kind on the day of this shoot, but I feel this palette comes close to matching what I saw.

If I could save time in a bottle
The first thing that I'd like to do
Is to save every day 'til eternity passes away
Just to spend them with you
If I could make days last forever
If words could make wishes come true
I'd save every day like a treasure, and then
Again, I would spend them with you
But there never seems to be enough time
To do the things you want to do once you find them
I've looked around enough to know
That you're the one I want to go through time with
If I had a box just for wishes
And dreams that had never come true
The box would be empty
Except for the memory of how they were answered by you
But there never seems to be enough time
To do the things you want to do once you find them
I've looked around enough to know
That you're the one I want to go through time with

Recreating the golden age of steam… Battle of Britain class steam locomotive No. 34072, named ‘257 Squadron’, with a rake of four British Rail green coaches, thunders towards Swanage in Dorset during a Martin Creese 30742 Charters event. 257 Squadron was built at Brighton Works and completed in 1948.
I took this photo of the Wolf Moon (the first full moon of 2022) on 18th January 2022. It appeared so near and large and I used a similar technique to the one I used with one of my first photographs added to Flickr, with the setting sun, framing the moon with some garden foliage.
Since my first upload of the setting sun in 2015 I have become confident converting a number of my colour photographs to black and white (as is the case with this one). I really enjoy the creativity that I can achieve with tonal values in black and white images.
It was interesting to see that this image was also taken with a trusty compact (three versions later), although I now have a bridge camera and a 4/3 mirrorless camera.

As the infantry runs ahead, we hold back and set up against a house. The soviets were not ready at all but we were. I opened up the MG-34 shot one round after another. The infantry moved up under the cover of fire. The fighting has just begun, who knows how long it will last?

I blended two unique DDG Text 2 Dream image layers in PS2023. The top layer (head with scarf) used a Wikipedia public domain image of Johannes Vermeer's "Girl with a Pearl Earring" as the source. That prompt was: Girl with a Pearl Earring, stunningly Beautiful open eyes, in the style of Johannes Vermeer, in a room lit only by burning candles, elegant, sensuality, beautiful, oil on canvas, crisp quality, high definition. The base layer (woman in a room with candles) was created using this prompt: in the style of Johannes Vermeer, a room lit only by burning candles. I let DDG choose its source. I hand painted parts of the scarf and most of the woman's neck, as well as the shadow below the scarf, because the tones of both layers were not compatible. I also changed the shape of the image because it felt too tall.

He recreates the World not by making new things but by making all things new. He does this by divine power working upon all that is through the agency of a human nature he holds in solidarity with us. He summons all into a restored communion with his Father, not in spite of matter but through matter, even spit and dirt, thereby clarifying the true meaning of the material world itself. He summons all to his Father in time, thereby renewing both time and its spatial functions. He addresses all people not only in mind and soul but in body as well, thereby renewing the human person in his and her relation to matter, to time and space, and to the whole created world. Apart from this renewal, which is also revelation, we are left as we were—aliens in creation and congenitally alone.

I haven't posted about an alley in a while now. I'd like to change that today and link it to this (in my opinion) good and positive wisdom that spontaneously came to mind when I looked at the photo yesterday.
I'm sure everyone knows situations that this quote refers to, so I'll refrain from further explanation today.
This avenue, by the way, is also located between Neustadt in saxony and Sebnitz, just a few meters from "our" Cherry Alley, on the other side of the street.
I was actually there to try to recreate this exact composition. But since the sun once again decided to set in the "wrong" spot, that wasn't possible.
On the way back to the car, I walked toward this row of trees (from the opposite side), turned around, and realiced that the angle of incidence was perfect.
My own little and rather unspectacular "light at the end of the tunnel" story.
