This is part of a 52-week project relating my experiences during my medical internship during the last year of medical school.

Dr. Timothy Rosio arranged for St. Lucia girl and her mother to come to America to have reconstructive surgery to remove the large, thick birthmark from her scalp, forehead, nose and cheek as part of his Heal One Wound Foundation work. The 5 hour surgery required removal of skin from the scalp, forehead and nose, and sliding flaps of skin, including nose, cheek and forehead, together to hide incision lines.

Plastics Screening Day. We held the screening day on the dock and in an unused ward on the ship.

What is reconstructive facial surgery?

This surgery is performed to restore the forma and function of the face and head after accident or to correct a birth defect.
