Reconnect and Reminisce Reunion Lunch: Diane Alperin

It’s been a while.

After three days of relentless heat, these alien-like figurines caught the golden spill of evening sunlight as it poured into my studio. With the heat dome pressing in from outside, I took the chance to dust off an older camera body and reconnect with the fundamentals—working with what I have, where I am.

These small, colorful plastic figures—part sci-fi, part abstraction—became my subjects. They sat patiently on shelves and my workbench, offering shape, texture, and playful strangeness under the changing light. For several evenings I returned, chasing the way sunlight moved across the studio, trying to capture something honest: light, color, surface, moment.

In a way, this project isn’t just about photography. It’s about returning to old habits—some good, some complicated—and rediscovering the skills and curiosity that first drew me to this medium.

I've been part of this Flickr community since 2005. Over the past two decades, many of my creative paths have been shaped by what I’ve shared and discovered here. This small set of images is a step back toward that—toward making, toward seeing, and toward reconnecting.
