Realized I haven't put up a shot of the new car yet, so here it is...

I realized I hadn't gotten a picture of the restored Brighton Bandstand since it had been finished. Made my way down to the beach and hoped for a decent sunset.

Here's a quick background story about the stand:

The Brighton Bandstand, also known as The Birdcage and the Bedford Square Bandstand was designed by Phillip Causton Lockwood in 1883 and manufactured by Walter Macfarlane & Co. of Saracen Foundry in Glasgow, and constructed in 1884. The Bandstand was designed as part of a project which included landscaped enclosures and covered shelters to improve facilities on the seafront in Brighton and Hove. It was originally intended as a sheltered area for Ladies to rest in and admire the sea views, but soon became host to Bands and Gentlemen.

The 1960s were the very end of the "dump your crap anywhere" mentality which was prevalent since the dawn of the industrial revolution. The original Earth Day in 1970, the beginnings of environmentalism as well as the creation of the EPA completely changed the mindset of what is acceptable and what is not.

Never realized how many dozens of shots I never posted from last year's trip until I spent Saturday going through the archives....I think because we had so many crazy spring weather days (7 out of 9 days it snowed) that I wasn't that happy with the landscape shots I came away with, but I found a few that I think are worthy of sharing....after all, overcast days do have their benefits at times :-) This one was taken somewhere along the boardwalk at Midway Geyser Basin....the saturated colors caught my eye. We went there to see Grand Prismatic but never managed to get a good look because of all the heavy steam....there's always this year to try again....just 10 short days to go!!!!

Have a great Tuesday.....and thanks for all your visits and comments!!!!!

:-)) Realizing the function of what we're looking at, shouldn't this photo be marked as 'may offend"? / ;-)) Als we de funktie van waar we naar kijken tot ons laten doordringen, zou deze foto dan niet moeten worden gemerkt als "may offend"?

I realized too late that I had planted some of my hyacinths too close to one of the main deer paths on the property. I watched with apprehension as the tips of the sprouting hyacinth leaves disappeared one by one overnight. However, the deer left the flower stalk alone. It's well known that deer will not eat daffodils. Perhaps hyacinth flowers share some of daffodils' deer repellent properties.

======================================================

Spring is several weeks late this year and getting later because of the unseasonably cool weather. Fortunately, the bulbs I planted last year and in 2021 are now up and blooming.

Not having grown the large variety of hyacinths before, I overestimated their shade tolerance. As a result, some parts of my modest flower beds look like the site of an experiment on the effects of low light on hyacinths. Unlike the specimens seen here, which are upright, others are almost horizontal to the ground in their quest to reach a sunnier spot. I would not be surprised to wake up one morning and discover my bulbs had acquired the skill of locomotion.

Just realized I haven't posted anything for a while, how time flies...

I just realized the other day that I never posted stand-alone pictures of the snowspeeder I built for my final entry to this years IDSMO and thought I'd use the opportunity to test my new camera lense.

I tried to get as close to minifig-scale with this model as I possibly could. It's still a stud or two too long but there is only so much you can do with Lego if you still want a functional interior.

Let me know what you think of my Snowspeeder, I'd love to hear your opinion! Obviously there are still some parts that could do with some more work like the non existent upper airbrakes. If you have any ideas on how to improve the model, let me hear them! ;)

After realizing this small crab spider was not just debris (which discovered after getting home and downloading), I knew I hadn't seen one before. It looked like a Crab Spider to me, so I asked Spider Joe. Turns out it may be an undescribed species and Joe was really interested in learning what they eat. Luckily my first shot showed it eating an Acrobat Ant. I went back a few days later for better shots. It was still on the same side of the tree around two feet off the ground.

Realized it is Wednesday while posting the last photo...so here we are...HBW!

.

This photo was shot at Wingfoot Lake State Park.. A beautiful Ohio State Park, Wingfoot Lake was used in the manufacturing of blimps beginning in 1917 with a contract with the US Navy. More than 600 cadets received flight instruction at this site during WWI. Of course, now we see blimps used at sporting events and as advertising. The park area was initially owned by Goodyear and used for employee family outings during the 60s through the 80s, but then it was closed in 2006. It was purchased in 2009 by the Ohio Department of Natural Resources with 121 of the 690 acres transferred to the Division of Parks and Recreation. If you are ever in the NE Ohio area, I would recommend this state park. You can see the blimp hangar across the lake and flights coming and going. The bokeh in the background of the photograph is the lake and maybe the hangar...it is that close! (And I didn't even get into the park itself with beautiful trails, pavilions, miniature golf, large and small dog parks!) :o)

my anthem

I Stand Alone

I know the sound of each rock and stone

I embrace what others fear

You are not to roam in this forgotten place

Just the likes of me are welcome here

Everything breathes

And I know each breath

It's more than enough for this man

Like every tree stands on its own

Reaching for the sky I stand alone

I share my world

With no one else

All by myself I stand alone

Deep in the darkness my heart still sees

Everything that I'll never be

Behind these eyes I'll go everywhere

There's no need for sympathy

Everything breathes and I know each breath

In my world there's no compromise

Like every tree stands on its own

Oh reaching for the sky I stand alone

I share my world with no one else

All by myself...

Still

I will remember

Still

I'll run with you, yes

And when it's time for you to go

Take me in your heart

Like every tree

Stands on its own

Oh reaching for the sky I stand alone

I share my world with noone else

All by myself

I stand alone

All by myself... all by myself

I have just realized that I have become friends with 8f8 since 2013, July. His creative pictures and desires to be original, and unique were the reasons that I admired him. He has never disappointed 8f8 creation's fans, and remained outstanding for 6 years already.

When I first received this Little World set from 8f8, my heart was deeply touched. They are not regular Christmas ornaments to me. Unpacking the ornaments one after one, I felt as if I was going through the history of him: the well, the sakura trees, the buttercup flowers, the spring trinkets...I remembered all of them. This is the 8f8 I know - someone who tells great stories with his mesh.

This motivated me to create this [The Lover Series] to feature his SL stories as a designer, as well as my sl brother.

I specially want to thank him for his encouragement over these years: from my ugly pics to less ugly ones, he almost faved them all. I don't think he truly likes all of them but the thought of supporting me matter to me a great deal.

Thanks 8f8. :)

I wish you all the best.

I realized that my stream is very blue and cold so I wanted to find some color. I took this one morning before work. The sky was amazing. It was so bright but lasted for a very short time. Straight from the camera and I even turned down the brightness. Still, you might need sunglasses. :-))

I realize that to most landscape photographers the middle of the day is time for traveling, napping, having a beer, scoping out locations, etc. Sunrise & sunset are the only time that magic happens. Amazing how during the course of a normal day, there is only about an hour of really good time to shoot.

My next trip might not even be able to give me that option. It'll be the furthest away that I've traveled in years, further than Japan. I won't be able to have a rental car, and be stuck around the town of Osan. One of these days I'm bound to run into Trey aka Stuck in Customs on one of these goofy locations.

I realize that at small size most viewers will skip right by this image, but I want to show how well this creeper blends in and how hard such a tiny bird can be to spot and follow.

This brown creeper works its way up a mature arbutus trunk and shows the camouflaging effectiveness of its dorsal plumage.

What I find intriguing is the feather pattern difference between the creepers and the nuthatches. Both are similarly sized birds that share the same ecological niche, only the nuthatches usually travel down the tree trunk as they hunt for food while the creepers move upwards to feed. Why one species evolved such a good camouflage system while the other got a much more obvious colour scheme is a mystery to me, but obviously both evolutionary paths have been successful. Perhaps the colouration is not a feeding advantage at all, but rather a roosting/nesting one.

Just realized that probably the best time to shoot these statue groups would be early morning when there's not lots of people. In the mid day good angles were hard to come by in the crowd. Also the light would have been softer.

In every year Valencians create about 400 different statues. everywhere in the city. They are shown for five days and after that they burn all them down. All I we saw were really beautiful.

Had fun week in Valencia and we saw the mighty Fallas/Falles. Highly recommended to see!

Dumbass alien didn't realize just how cold our Maritime winter can get.

I realized that yesterday might very well be the last time I am able to shoot a sunset without taking off an afternoon (this weekend sunset comes an hour earlier), so I decided to make a run for Trillium Lake. I've had this one in mind for quite a while. The problem with this location is I need to get through downtown Portland to get here. Not a small task in the late afternoon. What a MESS.

As I passed through Government Camp, about 30 minutes later than I would have liked to, it was still questionable whether there would be an epic sunset or not. The epic clouds were in place. The top of the mountain was fabulously lit. But the bottom of the mountain was dark, a sure hint I was about to be short changed as the sun dropped lower behind some far off distant clouds that would kill the sunset. I arrived at Trillium just as the last light left the top of the mountain. Drat. Just maybe the clouds would still light up. No such luck. Drat again. However there was one lucky surprise waiting for me: fall color! Good fall color along the edge of the lake. Wasn't expecting that up here, at this elevation or this late in the season.

After shooting for a few minutes as the light faded, I ran into Jeff, who had also been hoping for an epic sunset. No epic sunsets for either of us, but some great fall color, nice clouds, and a chance to shoot the breeze about our favorite addiction.

I suspect a certain pilot/photographer tried to leave his mark in my sky. Fortunately, the healing brush tool was able to take care of that.

As always, your critical feedback is welcome.

I realize this may be too much for some and I am fine with that. This was processed from a single image using curves, dupe layers, lightening and contrast adjustments. I personally liked the way it turned out so I am sharing it. Good, Bad or Ugly, I would love to hear your thoughts on this. Yes it has a Blair Witch feel. The first time I took my daughter there in the late afternoon/evening she asked who the boy was? I said, what boy? She said there was a boy standing in the front door stepping down into the yard....Freaked me out big time. My 4 yr old daughter is the one who named this house the "Ghost House"

San Francisco & The Bay Bridge, Yerba Buena Island, California

Last December I made a trip over to the Bay Bridge to try and find a fresh perspective of this bridge with the San Francisco skyline. Later that evening I came away with a image of the bridge and city that I really liked, but later realized that the image would have looked better if I had made it down to that spot for blue hour. I had planed on making another trip down for a sunset, but time got the best of me and I before I knew it, the Christmas lights on the Embarcadero Center had been shut off for the year, and I focused my attention on other things.

A year had past, and my contact Matt contacted me to see about making the trip back over to the bridge for a second round. We had made plans to meet up on a Thursday evening as one storm passed and another made its way in. The next afternoon, I received a email from Jim Patterson inquiring about the location, so instead of trying to map everything out, I just invited him and Kendra to meet up with Matt and I.

That evening, everyone came away with images that they were happy with, but I felt like mine were nothing different than what I had from a year before. After a second trip to this spot a week later, I was still not happy with the dark sky and I now started to develop thoughts of a whole new composition. The city framed by the bridge is perfect in my opinion. It's like they were made to fit together, but I really wanted something new. After bouncing ideas back and forth with Jim, he showed me a image that had been made from down on the beach with the city perfectly framed by the bridge without the towers cutting any part of the city off. I then decided that this was the

composition that I wanted.

I started doing my research of the tides, and possible ways to make it down to the beach.... (Thanks Rob for that info) After seeing that the lowest tides of the month coincided with the sunset, I made plans to headed down sometime this week. I continued doing research on the area, and found out that it was a popular spot for Harbor Seals to haul out for a rest. I read some interesting information about how these seals will abandon a haul out spot if they encounter too much disturbance from humans. I was a bit worried because Jim mentioned that the photographer of the images I liked so much almost tripped over a seal while out on the beach. I wanted to get my own images from that spot, but was not willing to disturb nature to get it.

So...... Tuesday afternoon I picked up my brother and we made our hike up the road and down the insane hillside to the beach. We walked around for a few minutes, looking for a good spot, but found that the Harbor Seals were exactly where I needed to be. instead of causing a disturbance, we turned around and started looking for a new spot. We kept climbing, and slipping on the green wet rocks until we found ourselves directly under the bridge. It was amazing being under this giant structure, but we kept moving on. More climbing, and even more slipping, we finally made it to this north side spot. I like the rocky foreground and the unique composition of the bridge on the left, so we planted ourselves here and waited out the scattered showers that came on and off.

As the sun slowly set, we sat here and watched the bridge and city light up. A world class view if I had ever seen one. Even if the rain continued, and I was unable to make any images, it still would have been an amazing evening.

So here is one of my first images from this spot...... A lot of hard climbing, and slipping, but it was worth it.

NEW: "i love your work 91"

Realizing that the world is inundated with eclipse images, I will only post 1 more. This has a little more interest.

Almost as amazing as the spectacle itself is the related scientific data. A few facts:

The earth has a circumference of 40,075 kilometers. The circumference of the moon is about the quarter size of earth, coming in at 10,921 kilometers, while the circumference of the sun is a staggering 4.37 MILLION kilometers!!!

In the above image, solar flares can be seen. Amazingly, these flares can reach out into space 15 billion kilometers!

Who says there is no God?

I realized that I had amassed over sixty photos of this new high-rise at Mårtensdal in Stockholm. So I made an album named after it, STHLM 01. The architects were BAU and Sauerbruch Hutton. I took this photo while walking through the old cholera cemetery a couple of days ago. It is a panorama, made from eleven photos, shot with my Canon 77D, using the 60mm lens.

We realized the the day was slowly drawing to a close as we drifted over the Thames toward St. Paul's. A brief chat on how to cap off the day's tour, and it was decided that we should head over to London's newer architectural enclave, Canary Wharf. Glass and steel awaited in abundance.

Shortly after taking this photo, we were approached by police, who politely advised us not to use our cameras in the area. There were many officers patrolling the area.

[#12 of series ...]

Didn't realize Wiggum was a security guard at Disneyland. He came to tell me to take my last shot for the night, and of course stood right in the middle of my pic. Sheesh!

I am realizing how difficult photography actually is. I had this idea in my head, but making it come out as an artistic photo is a whole different thing. I took about a million pictures, and only a few made the cut, even though I am still not completely happy with them. I guess I will have to continue to practice!!

Realizing it was already June, and seeing that it was overcast today, I knew it was the perfect time to go shoot some pics at my favorite rose garden! The day was indeed perfect, and I couldn't get enough of these roses they've entitled, "Pure Poetry." This is just the beginning of my posts for today's roses, but I would imagine you will see many more of this particular rose! Hope you enjoy as much as I do!

They are some photographic short stories, collected walking on the street ... in search of fleeting moments ...

are photographic shots taken a few days ago, from all media it is suggested to respect social distancing, the use of masks especially in closed places, washing hands or, if this is not possible, in any case disinfecting hands; very important tips, especially for news of new infections that come constantly both from Italy and from the rest of the world where the pandemic is at the highest levels ... .. as someone has said ... about our Italian beginning of summer .... the covid-19 virus is not goes on vacation .....

that are Confused-moved-blurred-imprecise-indecisive-shots ... the Anglo-Saxon term encompasses with one word this photographic genre with the term "blur", these photos were thus taken during the shooting phase, lengthening the exposure time, and not as an effect created subsequently, in retrospect, in post-production.

9. It was actually soooo warm outside today!! I wasn't even cold in my T-shirt and skirt!! It was a whole 8 degrees Celsius. Yes. That's warm.

10. I'm really gonna miss this field when we move :( But I think it will challenge me more, because right now I can just go outside and take some hair-flip or jumping pictures in the field when I don't have inspiration, but there I'll actually have to think about what I'm doing...

I realize that my editing is not very consistent, therefore my stream really is not that appealing from a first glance aha. I find it weird cause my editing is quite consistent, but the outcomes never seem the same. Maybe it's just me overthinking as usual....but somehow I want to have a "unique" editing style, y'know?

Anyways, today's shoot went pretty well! The weather didn't cooperate as well as i'd hoped, but some shots turned out nicely!

I actually love this shot sooo much cause of all the awesome colours! Everyone was so tacky that it literally made me happy!!! :)

I want to put up the original somewhere, so you can see the different outcomes!

I'll upload more as i edit them! :)

I realized the other day that I finally, albeit unknowingly, collected all of the Jabba-related minifigs Lego has produced so far, with the exception of The Rancor. So, I thought it'd be cool to get em all together and look at em year by year, and give a few of my thoughts.

2003: Man, I love the classics.

-For some reason that original C-3PO kicks me into full nostalgia mode.

-I also think it's interesting that TLG released a Jabba's Skiff the year before, but only included Han and Luke. I would be fascinated to see what a skiff guard from the year 2002 would look like.

-EV-9D9 is a weird character to make in my opinion, but honestly it's such a strange figure that I kind of love it. Nowadays it would probably have a molded head and not be nearly as cool.

2007: Most of you are aware how I feel about the 2007 Sail Barge set, but I cannot stress it enough: I love this set.

-Bib and Chewie are there for padding

-It's cool to see the classic Boba fig make the jump from Light Stone Grey and brown to Light Bluish Grey, and reddish brown, with more defined accents on his helmet.

-It's also kind of cool to see the main heroes jump from Yellow to Light Flesh so seamlessly, while still retaining that classic "Lego Star Wars" look. Honestly they almost look cleaner this way in my opinion.

2012-2017: Yeah kinda got guys from a few years in here

-I know most people like Modern Jabba better, but he just doesn't feel as imposing to me. He's much smaller, and honestly it looks to me like he's melting.

-The rest of the figs though. Oh man. Look, I love the classics and always will, but these modern figs, all together, looks absolutely stunning.

-It's amazing how far the faces of Lego Minifigures have come, especially in the case of Han.

-C-3PO is from the 2017 Landspeeder set.

-Bib Fortuna's face is nightmare fuel

-It might be hypocritical to say, with my love of Skiff Guards, but Ree-Yees seems like a damn weird character to have made. Mostly because he doesn't participate in any of the major battles, or really has any memorable screen time to speak of. Maybe if a few other weird members of Jabba's entourage had been made? I dunno.

-How great is that Salacious B Crumb fig though? Honestly, that's just delightful.

Anyways, not expecting heavy feedback on this one, I just wanted to see what they'd all look like compared, and it's pretty neat.

Let me know what you think!

Have you ever woken up one day and realized, if I just had today I'd live it for my dog? Vegas will be 12 on October 24. She has more good days than bad but the days are still there, the days that are tough to see. I've had dogs my whole life. But I've never picked a puppy and raised her her entire life.

Life is getting really tough. I'm having a hard time staying on top of photo projects, etc. I've been unemployed since April. My benefits run out at the end of October and I have no job. No savings. No plan. So living each day for my dog is about all I've got. Because I feel like we may be in our car or my truck together very soon. Oh sure, I suppose it really won't come to that? But I don't know what will happen. I can't get a job. I have health issues galore. I have been trying to make enough with my collar making, etc. business. Expanding my product line, etc. I try and one would think my circle would be wide enough but I don't know. Anyway, it makes me more and more sentimental each day over my dogs. Because they are what and all that keeps me going sometimes. My heart beats through hers.

I didn't realize the American bison has been designated our national mammal. On May 9, 2016, President Obama signed the National Bison Legacy Act into law, officially making the American bison the national mammal of the United States.

In prehistoric times, millions of bison roamed North America -- from the forests of Alaska and the grasslands of Mexico to Nevada’s Great Basin and the eastern Appalachian Mountains. But by the late 1800s, there were only a few hundred bison left in the United States after European settlers pushed west, reducing the animal’s habitat and hunting the bison to near extinction.

In 1883, Teddy Roosevelt traveled to the Dakota Territory to hunt bison. After spending a few years in the west, Roosevelt returned to New York with a new outlook on life. He paved the way for the conservation movement, and in 1905, formed the American Bison Society with William Hornaday to save the disappearing bison. Had it not been for a few private individuals working with tribes, states and the Interior Department, the bison would be extinct today.
