Happy Blue Monday 😊😊😍

Thank you for your kind visit. Have a wonderful and beautiful day! ❤️❤️❤️

I suppose I don’t realize how often I make comments about cows when I’m in the car with Norm… which makes me wonder what it would be like if I were ever to see a transcript of my own running monologue.

Perish the thought.

We were out near Cambridge and, as I’ve mentioned in the past, Norm is especially good at exploring backroads (and finding his way out of them too). We had passed a few farms and I must have said something about looking for cows and he asked, ‘What is it with you and cows?’ I wasn’t sure how to answer that exactly because, after all, most of the time cows just stand there in the field munching. I expect it’s something about their big faces I like...or maybe it's the influence of those Elsie commercials when I was a kid.

So each time Norm saw cows he’d stop the car and I’d check to make sure the farmer wasn’t around, suspicious that I was from some government agency sneaking about early on a Sunday morning.

As it happened, the only ones suspicious of me were the cows.

This shows a tiny part of a 4K TV panel (around 5 mm or 1/5 inch), so you can clearly recognize each element of the RGB subpixels. It‘s interesting to see so much color and realize that the actual image looks quite different to they eye (probably something close to a white tone).

Shot with a Tokyo Kogaku "Dietzgen-Topcor 25 mm F 2.8" on a Canon EOS R5.

I only recently realized that among all my pictures a black and white image of this iconic mountain was missing, so last week i just grabbed the occasion to fill this void when a few nice clouds passed over the top of Plattkofel half an hour before sunset, mission accomplished!

"And that is when I realized, I had so much within me to share, to love and to be thankful for. I could conquer the world with just my smile, apart from my art and stories. Through my solitude, I can be happy and love myself as much as I love others, always..."

P.S. I finally decided to finally put an end to this series. I started this August 28th 2020 and today is ironically Jan 27 2021, it took 4 months to bloom. If you look from the beginning to the end of the album, you will see a surprising transition. This last picture was completely unexpected. I will thank 8f8 Creation for that little note on the Retracing Joy - Bathroom Essentials. And for all other cute messages in most of his creations, they are so uplifting! I also borrowed Sapphy to pose for me because she always reminds me of what is essential. I didn't expect I'd use someone else for this series but it sort of fits.

Here is a summary of the series.

~ Balance

~ Distraction

~ Fear

~ Helpless

~ Jaded

~ Linger

~ Nightmare

~ Paralyze

~ Reality

~ Timeless

While driving along the Kings Canyon we realized it was only a couple hours to sunset. Importantly we had not decided any place where we wanted to get the sunset. For a change it was drizzling all afternoon and I was thinking of getting some nice post-rain clouds for the sunset. We finally decided to drive back to Sequoia and get the sunset at the Moro Rock. It was about an hour away from the Kings Canyon National Park.

As we arrived at the spot after climbing like 500 stairs, we were greeted with this awesome view. This is the west side where all the magic was happening.

The stairs go right to the top, an exasperating climb but completely worth the effort. At times a bit unsafe as the railings are absent, but no biggy! Excellent place to watch stars if you stay late on the top. This was taken from about half climb where there is a small balcony put out to watch the wavy valley.

The windy roads down the valley looked tempting. I instantly wanted to get the light trails of the cars driving back from the NP. I stayed up late and tried many exposures before I was sure about the settings. About 20min after the sunset I started to see the trials in 3-4min exposures but still the top of the photograph was too exposed. Had to wait a bit more for the light on the top to get less intense. The worry was the valley can get too dark! This was my third and final shot with a 6min exposure after the sun was completely down. Eventually, I realized its only a 15min window when the light is right to expose the shot right and get the trails distinct enough to stand out of the scene. The lights in the back is Visalia and Tulare.

Will post a few more shots from a day before.

Sethi when he noticed that I wanted to take a photo. Nowadays it's quite hard to believe that he was a kitten who really enjoyed being photographed and loved all the attention he got during a photoshoot.

I realize this photo is a little bit messy, but I found it was rewarding for me to dig in for all these little details. I couldn't seem to find a stance for this one that didn't involve my knees being poked by sharp rocks. My tripod bag got me through it. Best viewed large.

Tom and I realized, albeit reluctantly, that Saturday evening was going to be a lost cause up at Crater Lake as the clouds continued to roll in. We made the painful decision to bail on Crater Lake and to head South in an attempt to get a sunset on Siskiyou Lake by 5 PM. We drove straight down and arrived in time, but the clouds had moved in faster than we had anticipated and the sunset was a bust. Feeling somewhat dejected, we continued our drive South to a Travel Lodge in Redding and called it a night.

We were both up by 3:45 AM on Sunday morning and looked outside to find that it was already pouring. Our thought at this point was to head East in an attempt to drive out from under the clouds and grab a sunrise. We headed first to Lassen National Park where it was already beginning to snow, but we realized that we were out of luck with the sunrise as well.

Tom's suggestion was that we just head North up highway 89 to Burney Falls. I had never heard of these falls before, but Tom said Teddy Roosevelt had proclaimed them to be the 8th wonder of the world. We both rolled our eyes as we got out of the car about an hour later. We were in the middle of nowhere, and didn't seem to be near any sizable mountains, so how impressive could these falls be?

But as we neared the gorge, we could hear the roar of these falls growing stronger. It was still pouring down at this point and Tom and I seemed to be the only lunatics shooting this early on a very rainy Sunday morning. As we approached the first overlook, we both just stopped in our tracks. And then we both shot non-stop for the next 90 minutes. The leaves surrounding the falls were still changing and the challenge at this point was to frame these falls in a compelling way as they were HUGE. Not quite Niagra, but still far more impressive than what either one of us was expecting.

If you happen to be driving out on highway 89 (not sure WHO is out driving on highway 89 as it was pretty empty for miles while we were driving) you might consider stopping by McArthur–Burney Falls Memorial State Park. The falls are literally in the middle of nowhere and you'll have to keep an eye out for the sign, but well worth a stop. Especially on a very rainy Sunday morning in November.

I only realized at the last minute it was world book day 02/03/23 so hastily browsed through my Asha pictures of her in costume and picked 3 pictures to upload to mark this occassion. I changed the background to a plan black in this picture as I just didn't have the time to do something more creative...lol. Happy world book day from Asha, Ashala and myself...

De Zalmhaven, also referred to as Zalmhaven Toren, is a project that includes a 215m residential tower in Rotterdam, the Netherlands. Other parts of the project are two buildings of 70m each. The project was approved by the city in February 2010.

The 215m high residential tower houses 295 apartments and a parking garage. The tower and a second office building are designed by Dam & Partner architects, with Claus en Kaan Architecten designing a residential unit it is one of the tallest residential towers in Europe and the tallest building in the Netherlands.

In September 2016, the Rotterdam city council approved the plan. After fifteen years of preparation, construction started on 25 October 2018. With Zalmhaven I, the Zalmhaven has a height of 215 meters. The building itself is 203 m and the mast takes up the last 12 m.

On December 15, 2020, the construction of Zalmhaven II and III reached the highest point. Zalmhaven I reached its highest point in September 2021 and the entire project is completed in 2022.

De Zalmhaven contains 452 apartments and penthouses, 33 townhouses, a parking garage, offices, commercial spaces and a restaurant. The townhouses have a private roof terrace and the apartments and penthouses all have one or more outdoor spaces. The basement accommodates a five-story parking garage with 456 spaces. An inner garden will be realized in the lobby. A roof garden will be realised on the parking garage that is only accessible to the residents of De Zalmhaven. The apartments and penthouses in De Zalmhaven II and III have their own entrance at Gedempte Zalmhaven, but residents also use the facilities in De Zalmhaven I.

American Bald Eagle (Male)

[Haliaeetus leucocephalusale]

Beneath the pair of bald eagles there was a whole field of soccer players and families not realizing what was directly above them!

About the location:

Last night I was lazing around the house, not really motivated to do anything. At around 2:00am I realized that sunrise was only a couple of hours away so I checked the Yahoo weather map conveniently located in the titlebar in Flickr, and it was showing a thin cloud layer to the west moving around 5 mph in my direction. This location is only 35 minutes from my house so I decided that I would stay up through the night and get a super early start. I always face a difficult choice on my way up into the mountains. If I head west on Hwy 138 then I have only this view without any backup locations, but if I head east I have several other options but no view that includes the city, so I have to feel pretty confident about the cloud coverage to head west but I could feel the light coming on this morning. This is a view over Lone Pine Canyon road, the city in the distance, because of the angle looks like one but is actually 3 cities, San Bernardino, Redlands and Beaumont blending together and leading up to Mount San Jacinto in the background.

About the shot:

This was shot using a technique in which you trick the camera into thinking something it's not seeing. I first set the camera to spot metering and metered the sky. Then it set the camera to underexpose by 2 stops switch to manual focus and refocus on the city lights, then I light painted the foreground with a couple of lights at a WB of 5000k.

Thank you for taking the time to visit and as always, your views, comments, faves, and support are greatly appreciated!! :)

“Yesterday, Day of Recollection, realized again above all my need for profound and total humility—especially in relation to any work I may do for peace. Humility is more important than zeal. Descent into nothingness and dependence on God. Otherwise I am just fighting the world with its own weapons, and there the world is unbeatable. Indeed, it does not even have to fight back: I will exhaust my self and that will be the end of my stupid efforts. To seek strength in God, especially in the Passion of Christ.”

“On the night watch, hurrying by, I pushed open the door of the novice’s scriptorium and flashed the light over all the empty desks. It was as if the empty room were wholly full of their hearts and their love, as if their goodness had made the place wholly good and rich with love. The loveliness of humanity, which God has taken to Himself in love, and the wonder of each individual person among them. This is of final and eternal significance. To have been appointed by God to be their Father, to have received them from God as my children, to have loved them and been loved by them with such simplicity and sincerity, without nonsense or flattery or sentimentality: this is completely wonderful and is a revelation...”

"One day, you'll realize that you didn't love you, and tried to get loved by others. But while searching for love, you missed yourself. Maybe you thought your lovability came from giving others love, that it would guarantee you'd get love back. Maybe you thought if you gave more love, it would get you more. Maybe you thought that getting others' love would make you worth more. You didn't know then what you know now: You were lovable from day one. You just needed to know it, and treat yourself as if you're loved by someone wonderful. And you ARE a wonderful one, aren't you? The lack of love was from you, to you." - Karen Burch

Upon realizing none of the Class 1s were providing anything more than 1 train in the area, it was obvious that this was the move. Thankfully, there was a red leader on point this day, instead of the yellow 60Ms that have been ruling this train for a while now.

However, with the addition of two GP59s (and constant rumors of repainting the 60Ms), red leaders just may become the norm again in the near future.

Early in 1914, moreover, we realized that it would be impossible to free the Saint Anna from the ice; at best, we would drift until the autumn of 1915, more than three years after we had departed Alexandrovsk.* If we stayed on board, starvation would become a real threat by January 1915, if not sooner. In the darkness of the long polar night, a struggle against hunger carries no hope of salvation. During this season, hunting is out of the question, as all animals are in hibernation. The only certainty for those trapped in its realm is that "white death" lies in wait for them.
