Realizing that neutralizing a beast of that size will take more than his trusty hand cannon, Armorsmith pulls a concussive grenade from his bandolier and tries to time his throw with the Wyvern's advance.

I realized something interesting about shooting the moon. It's not like night photography; more like photographing a lightbulb. If you want to see past the light you've gotta ramp up the shutter speed and close down the aperture. Still lots to learn.

There is always a long version in my stories😆;

It all started with my 4 kids, of course. Helping them keeping track of their childhoods memories, making nice albums with stories to go with the photos.

Then our dog Aiko came into our lives and Instagram became one of our daily habits. The idea was to let our grown up kids be a part of Aiko's life at home, via Instagram.

I soon realized that there was so much more to see on our hikes than Aiko's face 😄

So, I started photographing sunsets and landscapes and posted them on Aiko's account. Aiko's 5000 followers wasn't too happy about the change and I realized that I had to switch to another platform where I could be me, go with the flow, letting my artistic soul blossom and enjoy Norway's scenery and small wonders to its fullest.

I deleted all Aiko's followers in June 2017 (yes it took some days 😂) and started with Flickr on full time.

I realize my images of Spain are a bit too dramatic, but the day I took this image was not so nice. It was the day we left and by the time we got on our plane, there was a storm outside, just perfect for the second time I was flying... taking off right into the storm, with lightnings and strong winds all over. I felt so relived to touch the ground again :D

I realized tonight I never spent anytime learning how to get a good shot of the moon. I spent about 20 minutes reading a decent tutorial, took its advice, put my 200-500mm on the d750 and stepped out into the -45 weather and this is the result. I am quite please. When I get back from my business trip, I am hoping to pursue more night and astrophotogarhy. I really want to get some new northern lights shots this winter but the weather has not been favourable when the phenomena has been active.

I have realized that I often seek this kind of backlight in my photos, or a special light with contrasts, dark "spooky" sky and sunshine etc etc... June, the month of the long days and short nights, full of promises, luxuriant, new lives in the nursery of nature, and in the sunshine after a rain you notice even more how all plants and flowers grow very fast...

The thing everyone should realize is that the key to happiness is being happy by yourself and for yourself.

Had no idea how to smuggle Legoes in the handmade theme, so here's a Lego-sized axe I've shown before.

Realized much too late that I could have used the words "die komplette Montagetechnik" to get the word Montag (Monday) in better view, but as it was a stormy, cloudy day, I had maybe a quarter of an hour to have any idea and shoot it with decent light.

I realize my recent burst of Canadian stuff is neglecting CN a bit. They're actually kind of a big deal up there. I haven't expended a whole lot of time going after them, but they're pretty dominant and sometimes you just end up with the right target. On July 11, 2018, Ian and I woke up in Kindersley, Sask., with a hint that a train would be headed east toward Saskatoon the next day. This line is just a glorified branch now, so it takes a hint of luck to find a target. Instead, our quarry ended up going west. It's a local for the end of the line at Oyen, Alta., behind a pair of SD40-2Ws. The canola is in full bloom and oil wells are in full production. The train is on the approach to Marengo, Sask., and a dozen or so miles will cross the boundary into Alberta.

Was actually slightly grey

Darker around the edges

A definite tinge

A flirtatious curve at the bottom

As if daring you to imagine something

Transform it into a different existence

It’s texture was surprising

Smooth and soft like the very top

Of a snowy slope

But hung indoors

It reflected onto the black linoleum floor that was speckled

With unpredictable dashes of white

When you looked down

You imagined

You were floating in a

Modern art galaxy very far away

From everything and everyone

You know

When you looked up you realized

It wasn’t a blank canvas at all.

In May, I went to a doctor's appointment that was very difficult for me. Most of the time, I try to forget about my biology but my heart will often skip beats and I keep spending more money to get no answers, making me wonder if it's just in my head.

I have been living in Chicago for over 20 years but I had never come across The Arts Club of Chicago even though it is located very central downtown near a couple of doctor's offices. It was a dreary day and I spent some time wandering around and happened upon this gallery featuring the exhibit by Huguette Caland: Bribes de corps. It's amazing how art finds you when you least expect it. I found myself staring at canvases and writing poems to calm my nervous system.

This exhibit is ending very soon but I revisited this weekend. The bottom section is the actual canvas. The top portion is a multiple exposure of the canvas and a photograph of a woman passing by from the window opposite of the painting.

Somehow at the beginning of January we start to realize that winter will be here for a few months more, and we can't help to go back and remember the days in the sun and the warmer temperatures.

I guess I need a vacation, again...

A happy tune for a Monday :)

Photography is my passion, and nature photography is my favorite.

I have been in Explore for more that a hundred times, and it is an awesome experience to have your photos showcased in such a special way.

I'm in many groups, and I only add my photos to them if they are not private.

I thank your for coming today, for leaving a comment, and make a favorite of yours this photo, (if that is the case) thanks again!

The best part of this forum is the contacts and friends that I have made over the years, that have the same passion for this art that is called photography!

Never thought this would even happen but i realized that when it feels right, no labels, just us, day by day, always wanting the best for us and ourselves, that it gives you energy.

You are a whole ass vibe and ugly. I'm in. ♥

OK, what is this? While sitting across from this "mix of stuff" I realized it was an interesting juxtaposition of the old, the new, and some of the tools used. In the foreground an old print of an old friend sits. She happens to be painting her mailbox at the time, and the time was mid 1970's. A b/w 8x10 print I shot on a Minolta SRT102 on Kodak Tri-X film which I had processed and printed in a darkroom I had built in my basement.

Off in the distance, "the new," a new b/w image matted and framed, and awaiting to be wrapped up and given as a gift. That one shot on the Nikon you see on the right.

The tools in the middle, an old Canon 50D, and still very useable, and many of the photos of mine seen here on Flickr were shot with it. Mounted on it is one of Canon's best L lenses, their 24-105, F/4 lens. To the right of that sits our Nikon D850, an absolute joy of a camera, and on it sits our go-to 24-70 F/2.8 Nikon lens.

As I sat and looked at all this I thought it be an interesting time machine of a shot, nothing special maybe, but interesting to me. This shot was done on an iPhone.

Back after some much needed rest from the holiday! I do realize that the holidays aren't always a joyous time for everyone, so for those that have difficulty during that time, I do hope you were able to find at least one bright spot and something to be grateful for!

I realized earlier this week that I haven't posted any photos of NYC laterly. I love you , NYC, but your cost of living is insane and always brings me down. Still, rides at Coney Island!

You with the sad eyes

Don't be discouraged

Oh I realize

It's hard to take courage

In a world full of people

You can lose sight of it all

And the darkness inside you

Can make you feel so small

But I see your true colors

Shining through

I see your true colors

And that's why I love you

So don't be afraid to let them show

Your true colors

True colors are beautiful

Like a rainbow

Show me a smile then

Don't be unhappy, can't remember

When I last saw you laughing

If this world makes you crazy

And you've taken all you can bear

You call me up

Because you know I'll be there

And I'll see your true colors

Shining through

I see your true colors

And that's why I love you

So don't be afraid to let it show

Your true colors

True colors are beautiful

Like a rainbow

If this world makes you crazy

And you've taken all you can bear

You call me up

Because you know I'll be there

realized this framing looked cool, decided to throw it through some editing

I realize that for Marilyn, this is a balmy spring day on the ranch. But I like to enjoy what little cool weather we do get here in the South. This is MY kind of weather, 16 degrees!

Dear friends, I am realizing that my archives are rich in forsaken treasures – yes, I know that in those days of lockdown you all are realizing the very same thing ;-)

This picture comes from a sunrise session at my favourite location, the meanders of the river Adda, dating from April 2015. I would avoid to nag you about this incredibly wonderful location: you can take a look at my album Silent banks, the complete collection of the photos I have taken there; the attached narratives are rich in information about the place, if you are curious enough.

This location is especially renowned for its legendary morning mists, but only a thin layer of milky mist floated above the water that morning.

I have picked this specific bracketing for a number of reasons (including the dewdrops you can see on the grass in the foreground), but I suspect that its main merit lays in giving me a feeling of opening to new possibilities. In the same vein, I believe that this pandemic will open a whole world of new paths for us to travel along. After the pain and the sorrow, after having regained the closeness we had taken for granted for so much time before the storm abruptly took it away from us… After we have risen from the ashes of Covid-19 we will be bound to take seriously a huge lot of lessons that this (not even alive) tiny speck of proteins and RNA has taught us. We will have to unveiling our souls because everyone’s soul counts – everyone can contribute to a new way of living, just as now the raging infection requires that everyone accepts and practises the lockdown – and everyone has a role to play in this common struggle.

I have obtained this picture by blending an exposure bracketing [-1.7/0/+1.7 EV] by luminosity masks in the Gimp (EXIF data, as usual, refer to the "normal exposure" shot), then, as usual, I added some final touches with Nik Color Efex Pro 4.

I tried the inverted RGB blue channel technique described by Boris Hajdukovic as a possible final contribution to the processing. While this technique (which, its imposing name notwith standing, is pretty simple to implement) often holds interesting results in full daylight landscapes, its effects on a low-light capture (e.g. a sunrise) are utterly unpredictable, so at the end of my workflow I often give it a try to ascertain its possibilities. In this picture I have exploited this technique in a very frugal, yet effective, way – just some touches where needed.

RAW files has been processed with Darktable. Denoising with DFine 2 and the Gimp (denoised and original images blended by lightness).

I just realized that we haven't been in the forest together for a while.

And since it's been really warm in the last few days and a little cooling down is needed again, I'll try to solve both problems at once.

Is it already working? If not, I have a few little details for you about the photo.

The temperatures on this beautiful winter morning in the Königsbrücker Heide were around minus 15 degrees Celsius. The air was as clear as glass and the snow crunched under my boots with every step. The ground was covered with small ice crystals that sparkled like small diamonds wherever the sun reached them. And every single branch had been encased in a crust of ice and snow and transformed into a work of art. And when the morning sun made these sculptures shine, it was a fairytale sight.

Otherwise there was an extraordinary silence in the forest as the snow absorbed the sounds that tried to get through to me from "civilization".

Well, I don't know about you, but I'm feeling a little more refreshed now.

Briar Island has lots of rocky shore line but also sandy beaches and sand dunes. The wild roses seemed to love the wind swept sand dunes. I didn't realize that the rose hip is edible until our son started eating one. I tried one and they are very sweet and tasty--something like an apple.

2022 was a banner year for me photographically. It was the first year of retirement, four trips, good summer weather and photo outings on more than 90 days. I am only now realizing that I did a lot more shooting than processing that year and I have a good deal of catching up to do. This one from early in the year was on a good morning for Ospreys on Armand Bayou.

I've come to realize lately from your comments that there is a longing to see more ocean, and I've also realized that I don't photograph the ocean nearly enough! I myself, returning from my recent two-day trip, wanted to see the ocean first, even before going home. I actually feel that longing every day.

My title is taken from a Tears for Fears song called Rivers of Mercy:

If by magic, you mean the ocean

If by tragic, you mean the end

I only came across this song a couple of months ago but was immediately struck to the core by those mysterious opening words. Even without any further context - or maybe especially without any other context, I feel these two lines are quite possibly the most beautiful lyrics ever written! They seem to encapsulate a dimension of truth so deep and profound that it makes me tremble inside. I see reflected my own reactions to the sea as well as questions about the whole of humanity.

After deciding that I wanted to post an ocean photo with this title, I went out with my best lens and quickly discovered what a challenge it is to deliberately photograph "the ocean." The play of light, colors, waves is always changing. I literally said out loud to myself: "I could take a picture of the ocean every day and never get that ONE definitive photo!" And so an idea was born. It's time for a new Flickr project: 52 weeks of ocean photos!

It will be my gift to everyone with the hunger to see the ocean, and it will be my own never-ending pursuit trying to capture the magic.

I realize that I just uploaded an American Tree Sparrow shot, but I really liked the look of this shot that I got last weekend. I noticed a group of sparrows in a brush pile so I 'spished' them out into the open. The charming little guy mounted itself on the best perch and I took the shot. It won't be long before these sparrows make their way out of Iowa and back into Canada for the summer.

I photographed this simple home in Tucson with the giant Saguaro's in the front yard. A few weeks earlier I found out that Universal Films reached out to me about using some of my photography in a new motion picture that will be directed by Steven Spielberg. My photography will be in a Steven Spielberg film! Any film would be an achievement for me but how incredible is this. I know its just a few images but its such a blessing. I am very thankful to God and my wife for allowing me this side hobby/passion of love photography has given me. I also want to thank everyone out there for always saying kind words and giving encouragement. Take care and God Bless.

Adrienne stirred, the scent of wine lingering in the thick underground air. Her eyelids felt heavy, her head throbbing with the dull ache of indulgence. What a weird dream… more like a nightmare.

She nuzzled into the warmth pressing against her side. Then realized she was waking up somewhere unfamiliar. Who had she gone home with this time? She shifted slightly and felt an arm draped over her waist, their bodies tangled in the deep cushions of the worn leather sofa. Relief washed over her as she realized she was still dressed. Then she turned—Kayla---and the nightmare rushed back into focus.

Kayla groaned beside her, stretching lazily. “Remind me,” she muttered, voice rough with sleep, “whose idea was it to finish that second bottle?”

Adrienne let out a low, tired laugh. “Yours.”

Kayla cracked one eye open and shot her a suspicious look. “Liar.”

Adrienne smirked, shifting onto her side to face her.

Kayla stirred, stretching before offering a small, knowing smile. “Did you sleep well?”

“I slept.” Adrienne rubbed her temples, willing away the weight pressing against her skull. She exhaled slowly, then muttered, “Tell me yesterday didn’t happen.”

Kayla’s gaze softened—ok but only for a second. “You need to practice.” Her voice was quieter now, more serious.

Adrienne sighed, pressing her fingers to her forehead. “I know. But maybe we could just lay here for a while longer.”

Kayla sat up, pulling Adrienne with her. “You did great with the teleportation last night, but you have to learn to focus. If you don’t land exactly where you intend to jump, we’re dead.”

Adrienne inhaled sharply through her nose, the weight of responsibility settling against her chest. She was learning, but learning wasn’t enough. She had to master it.

Kayla pressed a firm hand to Adrienne’s knee, grounding her. “You were born for this. It’s in your in your blood. Now, close your eyes.”

Adrienne felt the hum of her device start, a faint vibration against her skin. She obeyed, letting the quiet of the apartment wrap around her, pressing in but never suffocating.

“Find the thread,” Kayla continued. “Focus on a place—then feel the pull. Don’t chase it. Feel it.”

Adrienne inhaled deeply, centering herself. Focus. The place, the pull.

She felt it—faint, distant, like the whisper of something just beyond her grasp.

“Let it bring you to the edge,” Kayla murmured. “But don’t fall. Just stand there. Balance.”

The air shifted around her. The apartment walls grew thinner—like layers peeling apart, revealing glimpses of elsewhere. The scent of dust and old books filled her senses. The university library. The room. She could see it, smell it.

She was about to jump.

“Not here. Not now,” whispered Kayla. “Just to the edge.”

Adrienne’s breath hitched.

Kayla’s fingers pressed against her wrist, steadying her. “Hold it. Stay.”

Adrienne felt it—the pull, the tension—but she didn’t jump.

She controlled it.

Kayla exhaled, nodding in approval. “Come back to me.”

Adrienne slowly let go, her awareness settling back into the apartment. She rubbed her head. “Ouch.”

Kayla smiled, satisfaction flickering in her gaze. “That was perfect. I think you must remember from times past.”

I realized when assembling the next few uploads that I have a new series going, "Birds On Blue". Nothing especially complex or esoteric about this; summer's here and we are seeing a lot of blue skies. In the final shot the background will be water, but I'd bet that most people who don't read my narratives will mistake it for sky...

As for degree of difficulty, birds in flight are never easy, and the Common Nighthawk's flight is both swift and erratic, with sudden cuts and turns as it alters course to snatch an insect from the air. There must have been a recent hatch that day, because I had about two dozen nighthawks swooping and gliding and wheeling above a large pasture, and they were obviously having success because it went on for some time. I sat at the edge of a ditch - NOT in the rolling red Toyota blind. The action was nonstop for more than half an hour. What fun!

It brings a tear

Into my eyes

When I begin

To realize

I've cried so much

Since you've been gone

I guess I'll drown in my own tears.

---Ray Charles

I have realized that my camera skills are in a steep decline from using it in low light situations this holiday. Little wonder given the year we've had - plague, accepting a promotion while holding down my old tasks for half a year, and a lack of creative spirit that these factors contributed too. I am hoping I can knock the rust off the mojo and get back to recording the things that make me happy in 2021. I will start with these two before my wife takes down the tree. Flea is 8 or 9 now and sweet as can be, a real one man dog who can usually be found stuck to me like glue. Ginger is two now and a super goofy but loveable girl about town.

IC 1007 is on the point of southbound train L532 at North Tuscola as it exits a severe thunderstorm. I went out to watch this storm, not realizing that I'd run into this train. Sometimes you just get lucky!

I've missed your calls for months it seems

Don't realize how mean I can be

'Cause I can sometimes treat the people

That I love like jewelry

'Cause I can change my mind each day

I didn't mean to try you on

But I still know your birthday

And your mother's favorite song

So I'm sorry to my unknown lover

Sorry that I can't believe that anybody ever really

Starts to fall in love with me

Sorry to my unknown lover

Sorry I could be so blind

Didn't mean to leave you

And all of the things that we had behind

Ooh

Ooh

Ooh

I run away when things are good

And never really understood

The way you laid your eyes on me

In ways that no one ever could

And so it seems I broke your heart

My ignorance has struck again

I failed to see it from the start

And tore you open 'til the end

And I'm sorry to my unknown lover

Sorry that I can't believe that anybody ever really

Starts to fall in love with me

Sorry to my unknown lover

Sorry I could be so blind

Didn't mean to leave you

And all of the things that we had behind

Just realized I hadn't posted this photograph taken last October. My buddy, Mike Koenig, and I hit perfect conditions on this day. We hiked down into the gorge late afternoon and had the whole place to ourselves. Our shutter fingers were happily clicking away trying to take in every conceivable composition.

We reluctantly had to stop when we realized it was past sunset and by the time we began to hike up we were in total darkness. Luckily, Mike had a headlamp but it was still pretty creepy getting out. But what a great day.

Anita and I were driving along a little country road, just enjoying the day when I spotted a cat in running / creeping mode and I said watch out for that cat Anita (she was driving as usual). The cat kept coming and then Anita said, there's one in the road already...... My eyes swiveled back to the road and noted what I thought was a calico colored cat sitting in the road and then back to the other cat. By the time my eyes swiveled back again the one in the road was up and flying! Of course then I realized it was a hawk and up came the camera! We approached very slowly and he flew up onto this branch his peaceful afternoon lunch interrupted by a cat and two crazy humans. Never did see what happened to the cat who thought He was going to have a nice Hawk for lunch! After several miles the road we were on petered out to a dead end and when we returned, the 'possum was still there but both the hawk and the cat had gone their separate ways.

Although I realized the potential for a good composition here more than a year ago already, it was only when I drove past this spot just before sunset a couple of days ago… that the conditions were perfect for what I wanted to try to achieve.

Have a great weekend everyone!!
