A June 2022 trip to Reading to ride the Reading Buses open-topper on service 17 plus a half hour photting passing buses whilst scoffing a meal deal!

I have a number of ornaments depicting various people and animals reading including this new one of Santa reading in this sleigh. The logic of that defyies me, but he's cute anyway!

Prewar Trolleybus, 2 Morris Minors plus following RT set the scene for somewhere around London prior to 1962 - yet this is Reading in Oct '67 when No.260 toured the system.

The Reading half marathon took place today (14/04/2024) and Reading Buses ran 3 frequent shuttle bus services for the event based at the town's football stadium. The M1 ran to and from the railway station; the M2 ran to and from Shinfield Park; and the M3 ran to and from Mereoak Park & Ride.
Just shy of 20 buses from the Reading Buses fleet were kept busy throughout the day shuttling competitors and spectators. The half marathon was completed by 5373 individuals.

The annual Alton Bus Rally, one of the biggest in the UK, took place on a gloriously sunny July 15th 2018 and attracted upwards of 150 buses & coaches including Reading Buses Dennis Trident / Plaxton President open-topper 520 V524ESC.
Currently on loan at Reading Buses is Scania N280UD / Alexander Dennis Enviro400 MMC H45/28F Bio Gas demonstrator 106 DD16GAS. In late September 2018 it turned up at Fleet Station operating a service 7 back to Reading.
Reading Football Club, known as ‘The Royals’, play their home matches at the Madejski Stadium (currently known as the Select Car Leasing Stadium) in League One. On matchdays there are a number of shuttle buses almost exclusively provided by Reading Buses / Newbury & District / Thames Valley (all the ‘F’ routes). These bring in fans on dedicated services from the surrounding areas.
Services F1 and F3 are the two frequent shuttle buses from Reading Station and the Mereoak park & ride site respectively. All others are single journey routes and these are:
F10 – Sonning Common;
F12 – Emmer Green & Caversham;
F14 – Henley-on-Thames & Caversham Park;
F20 – Newbury Bus Station;
F21 – Norcot;
F22 – Tilehurst;
F23 – Theale & Pangbourne;
F30 – Twyford;
F31 – Woodley Airfield;
F32 – Woodley;
F33 – Lower Earley;
F41 – The Nags Head;
F51 – Basingstoke, Tadley & Burghfield;
F52 – Farnborough, Yateley & Crowthorne;
F53 – Wokingham, Emmbrook & Winnersh;
F54 – Bracknell;
Weavaway – Purley Social Club.
I popped over to Reading to see these arrive on Saturday 28th Feb 2026 when Reading were playing Bradford City. The match finished 2-1 to the home team.
October 1975. Reading GP39-2 3418 lays over in Grafton, West Virginia. At this time, the Reading was still an independent road and not yet absorbed by Conrail.
Reading Buses Alexander Dennis Enviro400 MMC / ADL H47/33F 757 YX64VRT has received a special 'Royal express' livery featuring images of Prince Harry & Meghan Markle who are to marry in Windsor on May 19th.
The Royal express is seen at Legoland on 702 duties in May 2018. Legoland is now the terminus of the 702 rather than Bracknell. Passengers wishing to travel to Bracknell now have to change to the new 703 service.

Exeter Township: Makeover retains Charcoal Chef’s flavor
The former owner of a city restaurant gives an Exeter Township landmark a $275,000 renovation.

Charcoal Chef has been a landmark in Exeter Township for years and new owner Efstratia “Effie” Clauser wanted to preserve that nostalgic tradition.
“Every day that I am here, I hear stories from customers about how they had their first date or got engaged here,” Clauser said. “And this was always the place to be after school dances.”
When Clauser, 45, purchased the business in April, she decided to bring the aging restaurant back to its glory days in the 1950s.
After $275,000 in renovations, Clauser reopened the restaurant Oct. 15 as Effie’s Charcoal Chef. She had closed the restaurant for about four weeks.
The renovations include new equipment, granite counters, tables and exterior walls, neon signs, parking lot improvements and electrical and plumbing upgrades.
“The granite gives the place a natural upscale look something that says this place has been and will be here forever,” she said.
And along with the numerous upgrades, longtime patrons can still enjoy their favorite menu items.
“I wanted to keep the tradition of Charcoal Chef going by continuing menu favorites such as the Charcoal Chef salad, cream of crab soup, chocolate cake with peanut butter icing and dream burgers,” Clauser said. “I really wanted to keep this going as the old Charcoal Chef, but just with a fresh new look.”
Clauser said she was happy to be able to purchase Charcoal Chef because she feels as if she is able to preserve a piece of history.
“It almost seems as if history follows me, because my pizza and sandwich shop also had a long-standing history in the community.
Prior to purchasing Charcoal Chef, Clauser had owned and operated Effie’s Pizza Villa, 555 N. 10th St., for 18 years.
The history of Pizza Villa is marred by tragedy. In 1997, George W. Clauser Jr., Effie’s husband, was murdered during a botched robbery attempt the night before Christmas Eve. Convicted murderer Melvin Ortiz is serving a life sentence.
Effie said God gave her the strength to continue running the business.
“I had to go on because I had a family to support,” said Clauser, who is the mother of Maria Anna, 12, and Panayiotis (Pete), 10. “I had family to give me support and God gave me the strength to go on.”
But after 18 years, Clauser said it was time to move on. She sold Pizza Villa in January.
“It was hard to let go after all that time, but I would do it again in a heartbeat it was the right move for me,” she said.
Clauser said she also can find comfort in knowing that her husband would have been proud of her new business venture.
“I really wanted to bring the old Charcoal Chef to sparkle as it did when it was everyone’s favorite hangout,” she said. “I’m a people person. I love what I do.”
