In the reading rooms I wanted to represent a very simple idea, namely how much the content of a book can acquire reality for those who are reading it, becoming as present as the true reality. For this reason the rooms have a view towards the outside and the concrete world. Only by painting them, I realized that those windows are not an opening, the external landscape does not count at all, and the room is a refuge. The reader is somehow protected from the outside world as in a shelter, and his reality is only inside the book.

A June 2022 trip to Reading to ride the Reading Buses open-topper on service 17 plus a half hour photting passing buses whilst scoffing a meal deal!

Honestly it had never been brought to my attention that there was still an interlocking tower here until a post on one of the R&N Facebook groups (Friends of the Reading and Northern is my preferred one) so after Josh and I shot the RDCs and the LGSR arriving in an incredibly busy downtown Jim Thorpe on Saturday morning we ventured up into the state park. I started day drinking pretty early and had this walk in mind. This should've been the tail end of the 1pm Jim Thorpe departure and I think I was already 5 or 6 genny's deep.

On hire to Alder Valley in 1975 was Western National Bristol LD6B 1902 on a local service on 10 May. The bus was exported to Austria in 1977 and may still exist.

GP30 5513 sits quietly along the Reading & Northern's recently acquired ex Reading trackage in North Reading PA-March 9, 1991.

The 5513 was built by EMD in March 1962 for the Reading Railroad as their 5513 but was renumbered into the C&O/B&O system's numbering scheme by the mid 1960s becoming the 3613 with hopes that the railroads would merge together at some point before the end of the decade. That merger never happened and the Reading was left adrift by it's parent road, B&O. The Reading's rail operations were merged into Conrail on April 1, 1976 with the 3613 becoming Conrail 2181. The unit worked for it's new owner for another 10 years before it was retired along with other GP30s and GP35s as Conrail sought to rid itself of all 567 powered locomotives. The Reading Technical & Historical Society stepped in and purchased the 2181 and restored it to it's as-delivered appearance. At the time of this slide (3/9/1991) the 5513 was being leased by the Reading & Northern as the R&N had recently expanded operations exponentially and found itself short of power.

On September 3rd 2018 Reading Buses relaunched their recently acquired former Stagecoach route 7 (Fleet-Reading) as the Tiger. It wasn't until September 24th that the first of what will be 2 rebranded buses appeared in service. Scania K270UB / Alexander Dennis Enviro300 B42F 414 YR13PMV 'John Vaughan' is seen in Swallowfield on its first full day in service as a Tiger.

As mentioned a few postings ago, several enclaves of Routemaster operation broke out in the early days of 'Deregulation'. Some had more success than others, but the basic headline concept was usually to provide a faster 'conductor operated' service and thereby benefit the travelling public harking back to the better days of their youth. In reality, the general idea was to run rings round the incumbent operator's 'OPO' buses in the quest to boost revenue ... unless the operator was an enthusiast who saught just a vent to his hobby, a scenario which usually has a short shelf life.

Here in late '80s Reading, one of Reading Mainline's RMs has one of Reading Transport's Metrobuses on its tail. The Mainline fleet was usually (from my experience) well kept, but this re-registered Routemaster seems to have had some repairs to a damaged NSF wing uncompleted. Maybe someone out there in Flickrland can tell us how long the firm traded please?

For the Reading Buses Open Day in June 2019, around 30 buses were moved from the depot to an adjoining public car park to create space for the annual charity event. At the end of the event the buses were gradually moved back into the depot and my shots capture a selection of them making the short journey.
