After months of noisy and labor-intensive toil, all spaces of the Society's grand Library Reading Room are again available to the public. Patrons and staff endured cramped spaces, dusty conditions and the sights and sounds of daily construction work, but it was all worth it.

Each year our Human Rights Week activities culminate with the public reading of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. This year we also paid homage to Syrian activist Ahmed Zaino who leads a non-violent protest group which released ping pong balls in Damascus spreading words of freedom and hope.

An empty coal train is tucked away on the former L&N trackage in Appalachia, Virginia, with NS 1067, their Reading heritage unit, on point. The fall leaves seem to be changing a bit more rapidly on the Virginia side of Black Mountain, complimenting the classic Bee Line colors that much more as the train sits idle to be loaded at Paragon the following day.

I was at a bookstore while the wife was book browsing. I decided to hunt out folks reading and snap them for a series with shots right off the camera - "The Reading Heads"
