Monday 12th-Thursday 15th March saw the first of several blockades throughout 2018 affecting the line through Newbury. The blockades are in connection with the electrictication of the line between Reading and Newbury, ans associated works including platform lengthening.
During the blockades an hourly train shuttle is being operated between Reading and Theale, with rail replacement buses operating hourly between Theale and Bedwyn. At peak times these are supplemented by coaches running direct between Reading and Thatcham, and also direct between Reading and Newbury with many of the latter continuing to and from Kintbury, Hungerford and Bedwyn.
Reading said goodbye to its last step entrance buses over the weekend of 23/24th February 2008, the town becoming 'low floor' from Monday 25th February. On Saturday 23rd, five Metrobuses and a couple of early Spectras operated in 'normal' all day service on routes 12, 20, 31, 33, 63, 65.
464 arrives at Purley on route 31, which itself has now been replaced by routes 15 & 33.

Now Reading Remand Centre. The earlier buildings were built by Sir Gilbert Scott and William Moffatt in 1842 in a cruciform shape. Oscar Wilde was incarcerated here from 1895 to 1897; he wrote "De Profundis" whilst imprisoned and "The Ballad of Reading Gaol" following his release.
In just this short stretch of Tottenham High Road there's much to be learned. If we observe as well as see. (Following Sherlock Holmes' advice to Dr Watson.)

Platforms 7-10 duly reopened on Monday 8th April. Platform 11 however requires more work in order to turn it into a through platform - work which could only proceed once the former footbridge had been taken out of use and demolished. Hoardings and barriers have been erected so that platform 10 (pictured here) can be used for fast trains to London Paddington whilst the work continues; it is scheduled to finish in August 2013.
