Yes, the red things are chilis. This is called "heat rash" for a very good reason. They fill the barrel with chilis while it's maturing, which at least probably keeps it from going off. Even I found this brew spicy.

19.4.12 .. this is the pinprick rash which sent me into a blind panic last night. I really felt fear like i never have before as I convinced myself it was meningitis. A trip to A and E later it turns out being sick can cause little blood vessels to burst under the skin! I never knew that. My beautiful girl.. only a little bit poorly.
