Norfolk Southern's Penn Central Heritage EMD SD70ACe #1073 leads westbound mixed freight 17G through the "S" Curve at Feasterville, PA on former Penn Central trackage. This line's electrified past is still evident in the catenary poles still lining the ROW, most here repurposed for high tension wires.
Clear track ahead. Iowa Interstate Railroad rails. Formerly "Chicago and Rock Island", then "Chicago Rock Island and Pacific". "Rock Island Railroad", "the Rock".
Extension, I like the contrast. I did not notice there is some water in the corner. The reflection could made some good pic.
Back to the railway this morning, where I made a further short video of the steam train. I was about twenty minutes early, so practiced flying, manouevering and photographing. I have a long way to go!
I have long had a fascination with railway tracks in images. I think it is the way they hint at a progression and a sense of something "down the tracks", but equally keep one on a path, rather than meandering.
The drone does allow one to view these scenes slightly differently and from another perspective, although here the way ahead is somewhat obscured by the gum.
I was out benching the other day at one of my regular spots, when suddenly I heard a flutter in the bushes next to me. Now, railyards are filled with plenty of wildlife, but you can imagine my surprise when I looked down and saw this little guy. So naturally i followed him around and got a few snapshots of him riding the rails.
This image, in sepia, is the CSX rail line that runs alongside the historic James River and in fact replaced the Kanawha Canal system which, in conjunction with the James River, was the main mode of shipping and transportation to Richmond and Norfolk from the western part of the state pre-Civil War.
