ROTHKO REMEMBERED

From Within

Photo Series while living in my car .

Mark Rothkos memory

Abstract Expressionist Photography

Noticed some very cool effects from within the car. To edit these is like the process of painting or printmaking.

Hope that you enjoy this limited edition series .

But nobody is visually naive any longer. We are cluttered with images, and only abstract art can bring us to the threshold of the divine.

For Rothko, color is "merely an instrument".

The multiforms and the signature paintings are, in essence, the same expression of basic human emotions as his surrealistic mythological paintings, albeit in a purer form.

What is common among these stylistic innovations is a concern for "tragedy, ecstasy and doom".

In this challenge, we do not want you to copy the works of Mark Rothko, but based on his work, create or recreate compositions that, although reminiscent of his style, are in a way a tribute to this unique artist.

It is really a matter of ending this silence and solitude, of breathing, and stretching one’s arms again ...

a shot taken in the Mark Rothko room at the Tate Modern yesterday. The fully featured painting is 'Black on Maroon'.

This was taken from the deck of "Rays on the Bay" Restaurant at the Sheraton Kona Resort on the "Big Island" of Hawaii. I watched this sunset evolve over the period of an hour and a half. I was fortunate enough to even photograph the 'green flash' effect as the last arc of the sun dipped into the Pacific (Photo to be posted later). I call the series "Rothko Sunsets" because the layering of colors in the sky and sea remind me of the paintings of Mark Rothko.

I have mixed feeling about this one because on the one hand, it is one of my favorite photos. On the other hand, I have no idea how it happened. Best I can tell, it is a double exposure that was a result of letting some goof use my camera to take a picture of me and my dad (which he botched). The next shot, I tried to shoot some clouds. This is what came out. ???

PHOTO ESSAY: ON THE ROW

This is a representation of Mark Rothko's #14 which hangs in the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art.. The difference is I took this with a camera where he used a brush, paint and canvas. His painting go for as much as $82,000,000. Wonder if I could get $2 for this one? ;-))

you know how when it snows at night, the lights all twinkle?

yes, baby.

and you know how rain makes the night a lot darker?

uh huh.

and you know the sound the baby frogs make in the spring?

yes, I do.

can we get some ice cream now?
