Rosary pea has been widely used in Florida as an ornamental plant. The native range of rosary pea is India and parts of Asia, where this plant is used for various purposes. The roots of this plant are used to induce abortion and relieve abdominal discomfort. The seeds of this plant are so uniform in size and weight that they are used as standards in weight measurement. The seeds can also be used to make jewelry. Interestingly, one of the most deadly plant toxins, abrin, is produced by rosary pea (Abrus precatorius). Studies have shown that as little as 0.00015% of toxin per body weight will cause fatality in humans (a single seed). Interestingly, birds appear to be unaffected by the deadly toxin as they have been shown to readily disperse rosary pea seed.

Rosary pea is a small, high climbing vine with alternately compound leaves, 2-5 inches long, with 5 to 15 pairs of oblong leaflets. A key characteristic in identifying rosary pea is the lack of a terminal leaflet on the compound leaves. The flowers are small, pale, and violet to pink, clustered in leaf axils. The fruit is characteristic of a legume. The pod is oblong, flat and truncate shaped, roughly 1½ - 2 inches long. This seedpod curls back when it opens, revealing the seeds. The seeds are small, brilliant red with a black spot. These characteristics give the plant another common name, crab’s eyes.

This is one of the most photographed places in Bruges. Best time to get a good picture would be the night time, when most of the tourists are gone and you have the perfect chance to soak in the beauty of this place.

This picturesque spot is located where the Dijver and Groenerei canals meet.

It was once a salt port where merchants would load and unload salt which was as expensive as gold ...

Holy Rosary Church (Tacoma, WA, USA) has such an awesome steeple and it is particularly striking in the fall. I have tried many times to get this shot but finally caught the color. Mt. Rainier would be directly behind the steeple but is not visible today. I will have to work on that next time. It was trying to rain and the light is flat but I still felt blessed just to take it all in. Thank you for your kind visits and comments my friends!

I walk past every day... sometimes as many as four times. Holy Rosary Cathedral, downtown Vancouver. July 4, 2013.

Rosary Chapel - Biagio Bellotti (1714 - 1789) Flagellation - Charterhouse of Garegnano - Milan

The Charterhouse was founded in 1349 by Giovanni Visconti, bishop and lord of Milan. It was then located some 4 kilometers from the walls of Milan. In the 14th century it housed, among others, the poet Petrarch.

It was pillaged in 1449 when the Visconti dynasty fell. It was suppressed under the rationalist reforms of the Emperor Joseph II, Milan then being under Austrian rule, and became a parish church in 1782. In 1960 the surviving buildings and parochial duties were taken over by the Capuchin Friars. The present buildings date from the 16th and 17th centuries.

The main artworks include a cycle of frescos in the main church by Simone Peterzano (1578) and Daniele Crespi (1629). The chapter house contains, in the vault, a fresco of Saint Michael by Bernardo Zenale of the early 16th century.

Built in 1929. Added to National Register of Historic Places in 1975.
