L'altare maggiore della basilica cristiana chiamata Santa Maria della Rotonda o Santa Maria ad Martyres.
Gode del rango di basilica minore ed è l'unica basilica di Roma oltre a quelle patriarcali ad avere ancora un capitolo (nella Chiesa cattolica, nell'anglicanesimo e nel luteranesimo scandinavo, è un'assemblea di religiosi, dotata di personalità giuridica e di autorità normativa).
Proprietà attualmente demaniale dello Stato italiano, dal dicembre 2014 il Ministero per i beni e le attività culturali lo ha gestito tramite il Polo museale del Lazio, e dal dicembre 2019 attraverso la Direzione Musei statali di Roma.

The main altar of the Christian basilica called Santa Maria della Rotonda or Santa Maria ad Martyres.
It enjoys the rank of minor basilica and is the only basilica in Rome other than the patriarchal ones to still have a chapter (in the Catholic Church, Anglicanism and Scandinavian Lutheranism, it is an assembly of religious, endowed with legal personality and normative authority).
Currently state property of the Italian State, since December 2014 the Ministry for Cultural Heritage and Activities has managed it through the Lazio museum complex, and since December 2019 through the Rome State Museums Directorate.
