The Roe Deer are back in the woods so winter must be on its way. I'm still wondering where they all go during the summer months...
The 3 delighful Roe Fawns currently at RSPB Greylake are proving to be a real challenge to photograph. The conditions on Sat morning were perfect with a sunny start to the day, once the fog lifted and a lovely heavy dew. However, these three are rather camera shy. They appear to wake up and spend a maximum of 30 mins before disappearing. They are early risers and as far as I know do not appear during the day,
The click of my camera alerted this Roe to my presence. I was so covered in snow, if I hadn't of taken a shot I think she would of walked into me.
Hinojosa Becomes Co-chair for House Adult Literacy Caucus
Meets with National Coalition for Literacy
February 9, 2011
WASHINGTON – Congressman Rubén Hinojosa, Democrat from Texas District 15, became the new co-chair of the bipartisan House Adult Literacy Caucus, joining Congressman Phil Roe, Republican from Tennessee District 1. The formation of the Caucus was announced last September at the National Coalition for Literacy (NCL) Literacy Leadership Awards reception. The House Adult Literacy Caucus aims to bring attention to the connections between literacy, economics and health and promote local, national, and global adult literacy initiatives.
Members of the National Coalition for Literacy gathered in Washington, DC for their annual Hill Day visits this week and had the opportunity to meet with the Caucus Co-chairs.
“During these difficult economic times we must focus now more than ever on making sure our work force is educated,” said Rep. Hinojosa. “I, along with my colleagues, who support the House Adult Literacy Caucus, will work together and concentrate our efforts on creating jobs. At the same time we will also make certain those entering the work force are educated and highly skilled. These goals have been my priorities since I began serving in Congress and I will continue to work on making our nation strong through education.”
Accepting the new Co-chair role, Hinojosa spoke about his long-standing commitment to adult literacy as part of a comprehensive solution to the challenges facing communities. Hinojosa was awarded the NCL Literacy Leadership Award in 2008 for his extraordinary contributions to improving literacy in the United States and his deep involvement with literacy programs for families in his district.
Caucus sponsor and co-chair Roe welcomed the kick-off of the Caucus in the 112th Congress by saying, “As Chair of the Health, Labor and Pensions Subcommittee, I am committed to educating both the workers of today and the workers of tomorrow. Initiatives created to support adults seeking to improve their literacy skills are key fundamentals of this important caucus. I look forward to working with Rep. Hinojosa on the bipartisan House Literacy Leadership Caucus.”
President of the National Coalition for Literacy, Dr. Heidi Silver-Pacuilla, of the American Institutes for Research, said, “Adult education supports national priorities: workforce preparation, job retention, transitioning adults into postsecondary education, improving children’s achievement, reducing poverty and crime. The Adult Literacy Caucus will allow us to examine these interrelated issues and look for comprehensive solutions. Literacy is a very powerful lever to address these priorities.” She said the Coalition will work closely with the Caucus in the 112th Congress to keep adult literacy issues at the heart of legislation for workers, families, and communities.
NCL (www.national-coalition-literacy.org) is a national adult education volunteer leadership organization comprised of over 20 member organizations and adult education professionals, committed to promoting adult education and literacy, family literacy, and English language development in the United States. NCL seeks to advance adult education, language, and literacy by fostering collaboration and advocacy at the national level among public and private organizations.

I went out to do some early morning macro photograph, and had this incredible encounter with this Roe Deer. After watching me for a while, this Roe Deer just carried on grazing in a woodland clearance. It was quite happy to graze about 15m away with me standing up. It only disappeared if it heard someone else coming, and after they'd gone it reappeared. It probably spent about 2 hours with me. I have never encountered something like this before. This is uncropped and taken with my macro lens.
