A shot of the rising Milkyway taken at the end of march in central Switzerland with a traditional haystack in the foreground.

Separate exposures for fore- and background. Processed in lightroom and photoshop.

I went out early in the morning looking for a cloud inversion once more. The weather patterns, temperatures, cloud floor all seemed to line up with the idea that one was going to hit the mountains. It didn’t work out this time, so I left the first location at Wayah Bald fire tower to begin searching for something different. Maybe a nice foggy patch of road or something interesting. A photo can leap out at you suddenly, and you need to keep your eyes open. Don’t give up just because your initial idea didn’t work out. Eventually I found my way into a part of the national forest that’s often ignored. That’s where this scene unfolded. Clouds hanging low from above, and a river of mist flowing in from the lake. I spent a bit of time composing with a shorter focal length first only to realize I needed to get much further into the scene.

Was not able to get sharp focus on the moon - not sure why - but decided to post this one anyway:-)

Full moon rising over some trees on November day in Finland.

The moon looked almost surreal in the evening sky. And I only had my compact 16-50 mm lens with me.

The coastal fog flows into an adjacent ravine, seemingly rising up beside us. In the foreground is that seasonal rarity, the green grass and blue lupines of spring.

It was so nice to have the warmth returning to my cold bones after a very cold and sleepless night in a tent nearby.

After 7 inches or more of rain in the last couple of weeks, the water is higher than I’ve seen in a long time.

Beautiful sunset by the docks in Richmond, BC.

It seemed as if the clouds were rising up while the sun was making its descent.

Thank you for your appreciation and comments. I also welcome constructive critique and criticism. Take care.

Northern Montana. I tried to capture some dramatic landscapes.

This mountain overlooks Two Medicine Lake in Blackfoot territory.

The light was kind to me when I went to see the spring snowflakes in the woods around the corner for the first time this year.

Due to 300mm f/2.8 there was a nice compression of the scene and I was low enough to captured the beautiful sky light.

A macro of a yellow lily. When I composed this shot, the stigma & stamens reminded me of a phoenix rising from the fire and ashes, which in this picture are the bokeh'd petals.

I am finally planning a book of my best photographs--a portfolio of sorts, but I am having a little trouble deciding on which photos to consider. I figured that one way to narrow down my selection is to ask you. I would especially like to hear from those of you who have watched my stream for at least 6 months. If you would flickrmail me and let me know which of my photographs (at least 1) you find most memorable and technically sound, I would appreciate it so much. Thank you!

ETA: Please don't feel obligated to do this--only if you have the time or inclination. Thank you again!

The banks of Georgian Bay are rising above the usual shoreline down at Kelso Beach. But on this early morning visit to try for the sunrise, the high waters made for some neat reflections in the blue light of dawn. These are the Owen Sound grain elevators. I am grateful we do not have to contend with the serious flooding that other parts of Canada are experiencing right now. We have another significant rainfall coming on the weekend before the water levels will eventually go down again.

The title is that of an abstract painting by Lee Krasner, I thought it suited this photo although it bears no resemblance to that artwork. My photo, a detail shot of a weathered farm building in West Yorkshire, has the feel of a ghostly forest.

I've called this image "Rising" because both the sun and the mist were doing just that! The trigger for this situation occurred when the sun breached the top of the trees on the Clifton side of the River Trent at Beeston. However, the sun had actually risen above the horizon long before it rose above the trees, which meant that it was already very strong by the time I made the shot. In fact, I needed to stack a pair of hard edged ND graduated filters to control the exposure, the result of which made the sky appear more dark and dramatic.

In reality the sky and the rising moon was magic and so pretty. I struggled as I didn't have my tripod at hand. Here is one attempt. 179/365
