Talk about your still life.
This RIP series was taken at the Longmire Museam in the Mount Rainier National Park, in Washington state.
These were clearly very old models.. stuffed animals.. taxidermied animals. In a newer building animal sculptures took their place and seemed more realistic somehow. I felt sad seeing these animals on display. Although I understand that this was thought the best way to teach about these animals without disturbing them in the wild, it feels disgusting to me, and I can't help but feel that they will never be at rest. I hope that someday, what remains of them will be returned to the earth, where they belong.
I should also mention... these photos were taken in fairly low light, with no tripod, a steady crowd to avoid, and my three year old threatening to cause a scene. I had to click fast and furiously. The quality of the photos may reflect this. I don't like posting photos that are technically lacking in what I want them to be but... I loved this idea so much that I compromised.
I hope to continue this series in the future.

Penny was with me for only four short months. She helped teach me a lot about guinea pigs and I got pretty attached to her. I think she'd had a rough life before I adopted her and I feel good that I gave her a good one for at least a short while.
Penny was doing well, but showed signs of serious illness this morning. Guinea pigs hide their symptoms until they are very ill, so I had a feeling it might be bad. We saw a new, very compassionate vet. Turns out Penny had either an enlarged heart or a tumor in her chest and barely had any lung capacity. She's always had somewhat labored respiration and this might explain the respiratory event she had last month.
I miss her already.
You never know what's on the RIP track at Marshalltown. J hasn't used the camera much but she's not old enough for a drivers license yet so I got her to take the pic since there is no walkway on the west side of this overpass.
