Fitness is achieved through overall wellness and physical strength. Good fitness and health has emotional and mental benefits, and also physical ones. When you are struggling to have fit again, the next article has tricks to better your fitness level.

How often you strength train will depend on the goals you have set for yourself. If you are searching to build large, strong muscles you will want to workout every second day. If, on the other hand, your goal is usually to become toned, for you to do less intense, but more frequent, sessions.

Don't focus exclusively on crunches to work out your abdominal muscles. A university study has shown that it takes a quarter million crunches to burn a single pound of fat. Due to this, crunches alone are not sufficient for a total ab workout. Work out your abdominals in other ways, also.

Keep your rpms under 110 and above 80 to optimize your bicycling experience. This helps put less stress on your knees and it helps you ride quicker and longer without getting tired. RPM might be determined by monitoring how often one knee comes to the top for 10 seconds, and then multiplying that number by 6. When your RPM is too low or high, adjust it.

The best way to incorporate exercise into your day is to keep your body moving at all times. While you are watching TV, stand up and do a few exercises rather than on the coach. For example, walk briskly in place each time a commercial comes on. In addition, when you find yourself on your couch, try performing light weight training. You can always squeeze exercise in somewhere.

Stay motivated by switching your fitness routine whenever you start getting bored. Rotating among different types of exercises can give you the opportunity to find several that you love and keep you going back for more. If you have not yet, try a dance or yoga class to combine it up. Or take into consideration giving kickboxing or boot camp a go. Even if you only attend each class once, it is a workout that will contribute to your overall health and fitness.

This post shows areas where one can improve fitness. You will no longer need to feel bad regarding your body and your fitness level. Study and implement these pointers and you will definitely soon be on the way to fitness success. yogamudra.com/types-of-mudras

Dental implants are a restorative dentistry tool that can be used to replace teeth for patients who have suffered a devastating tooth loss. A dental implant uses a synthetic tooth root made from a special titanium alloy that can fuse directly with the bone. When combined with a porcelain crown, a dental implant can make a perfect artificial tooth that looks and feels completely natural.

Soil as I’ve never thought of it before. The complexity of it and interconnectedness of it. Here lies the science behind biodynamic farming, the homeopathy of it developed by Rudolph Steiner (yes of the Waldorf schools). Published in 1989 the techniques described here are so far from our industrial chemical farming that it is clear they’ve been actively suppressed. No surprise there. Relates how the father of chemical agriculture, a chemist decided that plants survived on only 3 chemical nitrogen, phosphorus and potash the NPK chemical additives. Having completely ignored the role of humus it took another ten years for this scientist to realize he was wrong, but too late; much money was already being made on the chemicals and the destruction of soil and subsequently soil health, food quality and human health was well underway. All due to the compartmentalization of knowledge.

At much the same time a British colonel stationed in India, Sir Albert Howard rediscovered the value of humus as used in India and along with Lady Eve Balfour started the organic movement in England which was then picked up by J. I. Rodale in the States. Still to no avail as we know. But at least discoveries continued and organic farming maintained a toehold.

Written as a series of visits to leaders in the field and their farms to discover how biodynamic theories are put into action the book fleshes out the science of each visit and how it relates to create a whole that is astonishing in its breadth.

Fresh cow manure stuffed into desiccated cow horns buried for a year creates a humus so potent that a fourth of a cup stirred into 3 gallons of rainwater would revitalize an entire acre. Much method in the stirring of this homeopathic preparation 500. The first of 7 such esoteric mixtures. The stirring invoking energies of the cosmos to enter into it as well as the intentions of the stirrer. A vortex is created in one direction then reversed to elicit chaos. For an hour this brew must be stirred. Then it is sprayed onto the field.

Moonshine and particular calendar days relating to constellations also play a part in when potions are applied and seeds started, cows are bred etc. The “biodynamic calendar of sowing” nailing down all these auspicious days.

Others carried on Steiner’s work creating compost on a city wide scale in San Francisco. The better to enliven the microbiota in the soil. Australia was the first to put into practice on a broader basis the application of Steiner’s preparations due to a documentary shown on TV highlighting impressive results to the fertility of the land. Rotation of crops also played a part.

A chapter on the Hunza and Hunzakuts known for their health and longevity serves to demonstrate how those who live an entirely sustainable organic lifestyle are free from disease living a robust and healthy life long into old age. The secret of their health—powdered glacial rock containing all the minerals required by plants. It was also in the water, the vortex of its movement that provided clues to the colloidal chemistry that were the sources of life. The study of chelation by Albert Schatz in turn reveals how soil humus extracts minerals. Chelating acids are created by bacteria in the soil and this is how plants can take up the minerals. Such discovery was of no interest to the U.S. agricultural industry and it was in an Indian publication that his work was published.

We are also introduced to a Dan Carlson who discovered that certain forms of music — jazz or Ravi Shankar — prompted growth in plants at four times the normal rate while hard rock killed them. But his fast growing vine not being edible was of no monetary interest so he entered it into the Guiness Book of Records. He was also able to influence the plants characteristics by informing them they no longer needed thorns or meditating on what color he wanted the blooms. Other such botanical feats of growth also described.

The work of Wes Jackson focuses on the effects of weeds used as companion plants on crops. How weeds improve the soil loosening it and adding humus for the benefit of the crops while also providing mulch services to protect from drought.

Dust i.e. azomite. Works like fertilizer. Plant discoveries continue to slay long held assumptions. This one pertaining to how plants can ingest much larger particles than originally thought.

A curious chapter describes how a man from India is touring the U.S. demonstrating that the atmosphere can be purified by creating a little fire to burn cow dung, Basamati rice, ghee and a pinch of sandalwood inside an inverted copper ziggurat shaped bowl. Found to neutralize radiation and other pollutants. Those present feel the air becoming fresh again. The smoke gathers the molecules and neutralizes them.

Even stranger was a method described to get rid of mice and other pests prescribed by Steiner. The method requires that a mouse be skinned and the skin burned. Then the ashes peppered over the field where the mice are not wanted. Done when Venus is in the sign of Scorpio. The same for getting rid of insects. Their sensitive antennas pick up the infrared bands. The effects of the treatment is described as a counter force to the life force of the insect that prompts it to vacate. Observation speculates that the insects communicate and react to different prisms of light.

Monks meditating in stone towers collect cosmic paramagnetic energy and focus it onto their fields to increase paramagnetic waves in the soil as theorized by Professor Philip S. Callahan. The plants grow bigger for it. A farmer and a business man partnered to try out this method to good effect with 17 towers placed around their fields.

A woman Machaelle Wright of Perlandra gets in touch with Deva spirits just by going in the field and declaring her intention out loud asking the deva how to rebalance a plant that is beset by aphids and such or brokering deals with pests that they can eat the cabbage at the ends of rows.

The final chapter introduces us to a Russian energy worker with telekinetic powers, Alla Kudryashova, who is able to imbue water with healing properties that can also be applied to agriculture and livestock. Studies were done demonstrating her considerable impact on the growth of broiler chickens, wheat and beets. She was also able to fix delicate machinery prompting those studying her to wonder if the spiritual dimension existed not just in live material, but in a dimension of its own. Shamans would say she was using direct revelation to harness this power.

These last two women parallel Steiner’s spiritual dimension in his work involving intention.

By the end of the book I was convinced that biodynamic farming was the optimum way to collaborate with the intelligence of plants, soil and the planet. We have truly underestimated this intelligence in our arrogance to improve on creation much as we have the intelligence of the body and the connection to spirit. Written in 1989, plenty of time for people to have further studied what was introduced here.

The story of a monk called Hugh who fell ill at Jervaulx Abbey in Yorkshire.

The Water caused a violent nosebleed, after which his health is restored.

It is one of the surviving famed Miracle Windows which were made in the early 1200s to surround Becket’s now-lost shrine in the Cathedral’s Trinity Chapel. This is the first time one of these windows has ever been lent, and the first time the glass has ever left the Cathedral, since their creation 800 years ago.

The Miracle Windows, of which 7 survive from an original series of 12, tell several of the evocative stories of miracles attributed to Becket in the three years following his death. They demonstrate his remarkable transformation from a London-born merchant’s son into the renowned miracle worker known as St Thomas of Canterbury, who is still revered by Christians today. The windows are the only known depictions of Becket’s miracle stories in any media.

The window coming to the British Museum, the fifth in the 12-part series, is a masterclass in medieval artistry and measures over six metres in height. .

Thomas Becket: Murder and the Making of a Saint

(May - Aug 2021)

On 29 December 1170, Becket was assassinated in Canterbury Cathedral by four knights with close ties to King Henry II, an act that left Medieval Europe reeling. Becket was one of the most powerful figures of his time, serving as royal chancellor and later as Archbishop of Canterbury. Initially a close friend of Henry, the two men became engaged in a bitter dispute that culminated in his violent and public death – an event that sent shockwaves across Europe and caused an immense political fallout.

Marking the 850th anniversary of his brutal murder, this special exhibition presents Becket's tumultuous journey from a merchant's son to an archbishop, and from a revered saint in death to a 'traitor' in the eyes of Henry VIII more than 350 years later.

Becket was a second-generation French immigrant, born around 1120 in Cheapside, in the City of London, to Gilbert and Matilda, who had left Normandy following the Norman Conquest. His father was a well-connected merchant but the family were neither excessively wealthy nor powerful. Becket was sent to school at Merton Priory and, after a few years studying in Paris, he eventually gained employment through one of his father’s friends as a clerk for Theobald, the then Archbishop of Canterbury. Becket was described by his contemporaries as intelligent, charming and authoritative and, in 1155, he got his biggest break. Recognising his talents, Theobald suggested that Henry II appoint Becket as Chancellor of England. He and the king quickly became close friends, hunting, gaming and travelling around England together. Becket embraced life in the royal court: he is said by his contemporary biographers to have enjoyed vast wealth, throwing lavish parties, decorating his residences with beautiful furnishings and making numerous journeys to France on his own ships.

When the position of Archbishop of Canterbury became vacant, Becket was put forward. Given his lifestyle and reputation he was an unlikely candidate but the king had other ideas. Henry was keen to appoint his close friend to the role but, crucially, he wanted him to continue as Chancellor. With Becket in both positions, Henry saw an opportunity to exercise greater authority over the Church as well as the state. Becket was appointed Archbishop on 23 May 1162 and consecrated (officially blessed) on 3 June. However, at some point during the rest of that year, and against the king’s wishes, Becket resigned as Chancellor. His actions drove a wedge between him and the king which would never be repaired. From this point on, Becket’s relationship with Henry began to deteriorate. A series of disputes ensued regarding the division of power between the Crown and the Church. By 1164, tensions were at an all-time high and, in October, Becket was summoned to appear before the King’s council and ordered to forfeit all his personal property. He refused to accept the terms of his punishment and, fearing further repercussions from the king, he fled to France.

Becket remained in exile in France for six years. During this time Henry flexed his power in England. His most blatant snub of his old friend’s authority was his decision to have his son, Henry the Young King, crowned in June 1170 by Becket’s long-standing enemy, the Archbishop of York. Becket appealed to the Pope and, under significant pressure, Henry agreed to reopen negotiations. Following this, the Archbishop and the king spoke privately for the first time since 1164, and Henry promised to restore Becket’s rights as Archbishop of Canterbury. Becket was reassured that it would be safe to return to England. However, his final act was to punish those involved in the unauthorised coronation. Before leaving France Becket issued three letters expelling (excommunicating) the Archbishop of York and two bishops from the Church. This act was to have devastating consequences upon his return to England.

Becket returned from exile on 1 December 1170. Contemporary reports record that he was greeted on his journey back to the Cathedral by cheering crowds and rejoicing monks, but he faced increasing hostility by the authorities loyal to the king. Meanwhile, the Archbishop of York and the Bishops of London and Salisbury, furious that they had been excommunicated, travelled to Henry’s royal court in Normandy where they relayed Becket’s actions to the king. Henry was outraged and, although it is unclear whether he ever specifically ordered retribution for Becket’s actions, his furious outburst prompted four knights – Reginald FitzUrse, William de Tracy, Hugh de Morville and Richard le Bret – to travel to Canterbury in search of Becket.

...One key account was written by a man named Edward Grim, who was so close to Becket during the skirmish that he was wounded by one of the knight’s swords. Grim tells us that when the four knights arrived at Canterbury Cathedral, Becket was in the Archbishop’s Palace. They attempted to arrest him but he refused. Becket was persuaded by the monks to take refuge in the church, but the knights pursued him, bursting into the Cathedral with swords drawn...As Grim recounts, Becket held tight onto one of the Cathedral’s pillars to prevent them seizing him, and it was at this point that one of the knights raised his sword for the first time, bringing it down on Becket, slicing off the crown of his head. Two of the other knights then started to attack Becket and most of the monks fled. The third blow brought the Archbishop’s life to an end...

Chaos ensued following the murder, and with none of those present knowing what to do next, the body remained where it had fallen for several hours. Some individuals dipped parts of their clothes in his spilled blood, or collected it in small vessels to take away in anticipation of Becket’s future sanctity. After spending the night on the high altar of the Cathedral, he was buried by the monks the next day in the crypt. Reports immediately circulated of miraculous healings connected to Becket. Facing increasing pressure from the people of Canterbury, the monks opened the crypt of the Cathedral so pilgrims could visit his tomb. An extraordinary wave of miracles was recorded and, in recognition of this, Becket was made a saint (canonised) by the Pope on 21 February 1173. It was one of the fastest canonisations in history. Becket’s reputation as a miracle-working saint spread quickly and people from all over Europe started to flock to Canterbury in the hope that they would be healed. As well as visiting the tomb, pilgrims could also purchase a mixture of his blood and water, called St Thomas’ Water, which was bottled and sold by opportunistic monks in small lead vessels called ampulla. Henry II, in a public act of penance for his involvement in the murder, visited the tomb in 1174, granting royal approval to Becket’s cult.

Becket’s death and subsequent miracles transformed Canterbury Cathedral into one of the most important pilgrimage destinations in Europe. In 1220 his body was moved from the crypt to a glittering new shrine in a purpose-built chapel upstairs in the Cathedral. Geoffrey Chaucer famously captured something of the atmosphere of pilgrimage to this shrine in his Canterbury Tales. In death Becket remained a figure of opposition to unbridled power and became seen as the quintessential defender of the rights of the Church. To this end you can find images of his murder in churches across Latin Christendom, from Germany and Spain, to Italy and Norway. Becket was, and remains, a truly European saint. His relics at Canterbury were visited by people from across the continent until 1538, when Henry VIII would label him a traitor, order the destruction of his shrine and try to wipe him from history altogether.

For me, nature has a restorative power. It effortlessly takes away sad thoughts and feelings of loss and replaces them with a bud of hope that things may be better with time, patience and healing.

I lost my mum on 4 July 2024. My world will never be the same again. I'd like to think nature provided me this moment when I most needed it. I watched something which made me forget even for a minute. Mum was a huge supporter of my photography....and was always there to cheer me on.

Seeking Forgiveness – This piece represents the seeking and receiving of forgiveness, form both Jesus and others. The power of forgiveness is only possible through the Holy Spirit which empowers us to live in the grace and love that God has for us.

This artwork was created as gift from Eric Boldiszar, inmate at Richard A. Handlon Correctional Facility to those who contributed the West Michigan’s 3rd Annual Restorative Justice Conference. Each piece is unique and portrays some aspect of the healing power of restorative practices.

“Restorative justice, compared to the current criminal justice system, seeks to preserve the inherent dignity of both the victim and the offender, recognizing that each is made in and bears the image of God, the imago Dei. By giving prisoners a voice, the conferences help preserve our dignity as image bearers of God and gives us dignity through telling our stories and giving back to the community.” - Eric Boldiszar

CPI student Eric Boldiszar welcomes conference attendees. Eric helped originate the annual restorative justice conference as a forum to educate the public about restorative practices.

Radical Forgiveness, the 3rd annual West Michigan Restorative Justice Conference, was held Saturday, Oct. 19, 2019 at Cathedral Square Center in downtown Grand Rapids. Sponsored by the Prison & Jail Ministry Office of the Diocese of Grand Rapids and the Saint Benedict Institute, the conference was planned and organized by Calvin Prison Initiative (CPI) students of Richard A. Handlon Correctional Facility (MTU) in Ionia. More than 150 individuals attended. The conference keynote was Kate Grosmaire, speaker and author of "Forgiving My Daughter's Killer: A True Story of Loss, Forgiveness and Unexpected Grace."

The conference included an ecumenical prayer service, keynote by Mrs. Grosmaire, a pre-recorded panel discussion on forgiveness from the CPI students at MTU, and a panel discussion on hospitality. It was a day of learning, healing and working to promote restorative practices and ignite action within our criminal justice system and communities. A committee will be formed to begin the work of writing potential policy that will include restorative practices and victim/offender dialogue, pre-conviction. The first built example of a community laid out using the Fused Grid network model is taking shape in Calgary, Alberta. The principle idea of the model is that pedestrians (particularly kids) have movement priority within the neighbourhood. Open spaces and paths connect the entire neighbourhood that make street crossing infrequent or unnecessary. Cars invariably slow down because of the short block distances and frequent turns. The result is a tranquil, safe, restorative, healthy environment where social ties can grow. (See the plan of the neighbourhood in this photo-stream and articles about the Fused Grid in Wikipedia, the Web and in fusedgrid dot ca)

When you get your one, multiple or all of your #teeth #missing, you get two options from your dentist, i.e. dentures and implants. Both of restorative options have their own sets of pros and cons which you can look at to find out the right option for your particular case. Although your dentist can make a recommendation here, the final decision is yours. So, it is important for you to know which option suits you well.

Things to know about dentures

Dentures have been used as the only option to replace missing teeth for many decades. Dentists make dentures to work with your oral cavity by molding them to fit in your mouth. Each day, you get the dentures out of your mouth before going to bed and soak them for the entire night for proper cleaning. And then you put the dentures back in your mouth after waking. Although you may have spent huge amount of money on the preparation of #dentures for you, it is difficult to make these faux teeth resembling the nature teeth by 100%.

Many people may like the ease of getting the dentures out in the night and putting them back in the mouth in the morning, but one should keep in mind that the jawbone can deteriorate without the presence of dental support.

You need good health of your jawbone in order receive #implants. And if you do not have healthy jawbone, you can have dentures. But it is also the fact that even best of an adhesive cannot hold dentures tightly in order to restore your bite force completely.

When it comes to choosing the dentures, there are many options to choose from. Quality is, of course, one major factor to be taken into consideration. You can discuss options with your dentist in this regard.

A typically denture lasts up to 5 years before you need a replacement.

Things to know about dental implants

An implant is basically a #titanium post which is further covered by a crown or an over-denture. This post is surgically inserted in your jawbone and then it is left to get fused with it. When the process of jawbone’s fusion with titanium post is complete, you are then ready to receive the crown or a denture to get the long-lost smile and bite force back. Implants are typically beneficial in case you need your entire set of missing teeth back. In this case, the attached over-denture wouldn’t ever slip and you will feel the entire tooth structure to be as stronger as your real teeth.

However, you may not be eligible to get dental implant if you have deteriorated health of jawbone due to smoking, diabetes, or any other health condition. In that case, you will have to rely on dentures.

Furthermore, the dental implants are not cheaper as dentures. The cost of dental implant may be many times that of dentures. However, it is the long lasting solution is it is worth the price you pay.

Caption: Restorative justice is a voluntary process that brings together those who have experienced harm with those responsible, creating space for dialogue, accountability, and healing (staged image).

Restorative justice can take a form of a restorative circle meeting, where a person who has experienced harm meets the person who has caused them harm face-to-face – but with help in the room from their own supporters and specially-trained facilitators.

Background:

Restorative justice is a voluntary process of supported contact between a person who has caused harm and someone who has experienced harm. Where appropriate, this can also include their families and supporters.

Restorative justice does not always occur between a person who has experienced harm and/or a person who has caused that harm. It can also be used to address secondary harm caused by organisations or systems, conflict experienced across a community group and/or circles of those who have experienced similar types of harm. This is often referred to as ‘restorative practice’ or a ‘restorative approach’.

Restorative justice takes many forms, based on what is best for the parties involved, their needs and their continued safety. This is explored through the planning, preparation stages and continued risk assessment by a specially trained facilitator. Approaches include face-to-face conferences or meetings, letter-writing, video conferencing, ‘shuttle dialogue’ and healing circles.

Restorative justice has many evidence-based benefits for those who have experienced harm and also those who have caused harm, their families and communities. These can include being given a choice, empowerment, recovery, improved wellbeing and the process can also help prevent people from causing further harm.

Restorative Justice in Scotland:

It’s a voluntary and consent-based process in Scotland and any party can discontinue their engagement in the process at any point without losing support from services in place, to ensure trauma-informed practice continues.

Restorative justice can be considered by adults, children and young people in Scotland in a way which is responsive to trauma and takes a rights-based approach.

Research shows people in Scotland want the option of exploring restorative justice across a range of crime types, including those considered serious and sensitive in nature. This does not mean it will always go ahead, but even the choice is found to be empowering.

Restorative justice operates in parallel to the criminal justice and youth justice systems in Scotland and is never used an alternative to this. Outcomes achieved and/or agreed through restorative justice have no impact on any decisions taken throughout the criminal justice process.

By 1890, the sales success of his patent medicine tonic, Dr. Miles' Nervine, in treating "nervous" ailments (including "nervousness or nervous exhaustion, sleeplessness, hysteria, headache, neuralgia, backache, pain, epilepsy, spasms, fits, and St. Vitus' dance") led him to develop a mail order medicine business. In 1907 if you were suffering from "smothering spells" this was your medicine! Nervine remained on the market as a "calmative" until the late 1960s. This particular calendar was distributed by a druggist in the small town of Manchester, Mich.
