and they are not to blame ...

Yesterday was Earth Overshoot Day (EOD), the calculated illustrative calendar date on which humanity’s resource consumption for the year exceeds Earth’s capacity to regenerate those resources that year. (1987= 19th of December)

Time to reconsider our consumption habits !

Made up of sediments of Furnace Creek lake which dried up 5 million years ago. This erosional landscape sits within the Amaragosa Range in Death Valley. Named after Christian Brevoort Zabriskie of the Pacific Coast Borax Company. You can still find ghost towns in Death Valley that once mined the resource....On a side note...any Pink Floyd fan will remember the soundtrack of the same name.

The red squirrel are fierce little things and will chase off any intruders.

Colletes aestivalis. Rare? or Not Rare? This is a Heuchera specialist. Heuchera is planted everywhere, why is the species not seen and seen by some as a potential species of concern. A few things pilgrim. First most of the Heuchera out there are part of a hybrid Heuchera swarm (I like the ring of that phrase, but, sadly, it will not often come up in casual conversation). OK, so C. aestivalis is not interested in these hybrids. Also, wild Heuchera is hard to find and its little brown be hard to see. We now know of several populations some from areas where H. americana have been planted. So, 2 lessons. 1. Plant H. americana. 2. Look for bees on H. americana and maybe our friend will be there. Brooke Goggins took the picture and the specimen was found in Virginia, but I can't recall which group!

We Are Made One with What We Touch and See

We are resolved into the supreme air,

We are made one with what we touch and see,

With our heart's blood each crimson sun is fair,

With our young lives each spring impassioned tree

Flames into green, the wildest beasts that range

The moor our kinsmen are, all life is one, and all is change.

"Negative Camp 6, I just laid into a fresh trench"

"Bruce, fold it up and get back here"

"Chuck, listen man. Is this a real report?"

"What are you sayin?"

"Look, I know he's your kid but-"

"But what."

"I'm just saying.. last week it was a giant squid, the week before that reported Stingrays activity. We got quota to meet and every time we shut down we lose an entire day to reset and refuel"

"Quota doesn't matter when you're dead. Pack it up."

"Missing quota might as well be dead."

"What was that, 9?"

"Nothin. Buckets up, back in 30."

This was built for the WackLUG 2022 BrickCon collab, which was absolutely killer. I've had this conveyor belt in my collection for 15 years, laughing at me because I could never find a good use for it. The collab was the perfect moment to finally get it into something.

Winslow Homer (1836–1910) is regarded as one of the greatest American painters of the 19th century. Homer utilized both oil and watercolor in depicting 19th century American Sea and landscapes and the daily life's of those who inhabited it. He was sent to work as an artist-correspondent for the new popular illustrated journal Harper’s Weekly in 1861. We have digitally enhanced many of his beautful artworks including “the Gulf Stream”, “Croquet Scene”, “Northeaster” and many more. They are all free to download and enjoy under the CC0 license.

Next will be the last image in the set... pls watch for it :)

The Canada Geese are back home. Tired from al ong flight they splash land for a rest, extending their feet forward for a short ‘water ski’ ran before sinking their weight down. After an hour or twp break they will continue north to the nesting grounds.

Here are some amazing facts about those ‘world travelers’

How do Canada Geese communicate?

While many people only hear the trademark “honk” when geese make noise, there is evidence that Canada geese can communicate with different sounds. Scientists believe that there are as many as 13 different Canada goose calls for things like greetings, warnings and contentment.

Canada geese may be one of the most talkative animals after humans. Goslings, or baby geese, begin communicating with their parents while still in the egg! Once hatched, there is also evidence that they respond differently to different calls and noises from their parents, indicating a sophisticated level of communication.

More facts

FACT -- As each goose flaps its wings it creates an "uplift" for the birds that follow. By flying in a "V" formation, the whole flock adds 71% greater flying range than if each bird flew alone.

LESSON -- People who share a common direction and sense of community can get where they are going quicker and easier because they are traveling on the thrust of one another.
