The Void Remains - by Dirk DZIMIRSKY - 2016

Charcoal/acrylic on canvas

Dirk Dzimirsky is a German artist best known for his hyper realistic drawings depicting human beings in a dark mood, thus revealing the vulnerability and tragedy present in their condition. He utilizes the interplay of light and shadow combined with extreme detail to create a melancholy mood in his images. In translating photographs into drawings, he wishes to go beyond merely recreating a single instant in time and instead create a photographic snapshot representing the culmination of his life experiences with others, succinctly encapsulated in the subject’s gaze (comment from Pixelelco - reddit webpage)

Paracas National Reserve - Perù 20221118

The Paracas National Reserve is a Peruvian protected area that protects desert and marine ecosystems for their conservation and sustainable use. Within the reserve there are also archaeological remains of the Paracas culture.

The reserve is located in the region of Ica, 250 km south of Lima and a few kilometres from the city of Pisco. It covers an area of 335,000 hectares, 65% of which correspond to marine ecosystems. The maximum altitude of the reserve is 786 metres.[3]

The reserve includes coastal geographical elements such as: the Paracas Peninsula, Independencia Bay, San Gallán Island and Paracas Bay.

Taken at Bentley,a favourite local haunt of mine.

Bentley is a village and civil parish in the East Hampshire district of Hampshire, England. The parish has an area of 2,299 acres.

These forlorn remains of a once thriving farm near Manlius,IL.have been decaying for a long time. In this area,I counted 5 farmsites along a two mile stretch that are either abandoned or have no farmhouses and are used for storage. What's ironic is this area along Interstate 80 stretching east to Princeton,IL. contains some of the most fertile land in the northern half of Illinois.Fertile land that cannot support successful smaller farmers. Its a sad fact in today's farming economy. These days you have to be big to achieve those economies of scale to survive...

I don't remember for sure which beach this was, but I think it was just a little north of Davenport, just outside of Santa Cruz, California.

In 1890 (Meiji 23), a battery was placed on the top of Hinoyama in Shimonoseki City, and it was used as an important military base. It was a place where entry was prohibited until after World War II.

Remnants of the old docks exposed at low tide. Thames Beach, City of London.

by artist Robert Hague.

Taken at the 2022 Lorne Biennale.

The theme this year was "Spirit of Place".

This was one of my favourites, and I loved the quote...

"The sea cares not for our castles, our riches, our triumphs, or our failures.

It cares nothing for our dreams.

The shimmering sea simply does not care.

All it knows is the warmth of our skin, the weight of our hearts and the depth of our breath."

Many thanks for your visits, kind comments and faves, very much appreciated.

I'm not sure what kind of bird this was, perhaps a duck. It was under trees near a pond. Beautiful feathers, though!

...of Word War II batteries along the coast of Normandy, France.

The gatehouse is all that remains of Alnwick Abbey, which dates back to the 12th century.

Without doing any digging, my feeling is that this must be a re-construction since it is so intact and without a trace of the rest of the buildings (which were on the far side of the gatehouse).

It's located in a section of Hulne Park without public access and so has to be photographed from a public road (& over a 5ft high wall!).

100x 2023 edition - Northumberland revisited - 59/100

A stunning view with the added excitement of not knowing when the house will fall into the ocean. On the edge of the cliff are the remains of several houses that once had a glorious view, but are no longer.
